I'll be honest...GL has been boring me for at least a year. It's certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination. And honestly, I'm REALLY intrigued by the Sinestro storyline that they're kicking off with.
But, y'know what? It's been six good years with that book. I need room in my budget for the Superman books, and the end of War Of The Green Lanterns seemed like a good "jumping off point" for me.
Here's the thing. I don't think the book ever matched the heights of Sinestro Corps War, which was not only the best of Johns' run, but the best GL story I've ever read! Ever! I think they moved too quickly bringing in all of the other kinds of Lanterns, and I think Blackest Night was a little...bloated. The whole "armies of different Lanterns" thing, which is something I've wanted since childhood, kind of wore thin pretty quick for me, as I think they were overused too early.
I'm not dropping the book out of malice or anything like that. I just figured it was a good time to move on to another book. I'm sure it'll still be very good. But, I've been left a little flat by at least the last two storylines (although War Of The GLs had a really promising start), and I'd rather use that $2.99 a month for one of the Superman books or Warren Ellis' Secret Avengers or something.

I am not an avid comic reader. Jeez I barely read, period.
I have never had a pull list, subscription...instead I buy the odd graphic novel or TPB and loose single issues whenever I am around a comic shop.
Today I arranged my first 12 issue subscription. 12 issues each of:
Action Comics Superman Batman Detective Comics Batman & Robin Batman: The Dark Knight
The DCnU has finally gotten me into collecting single issue comics.

An interesting thing I heard today from my local comic store:
When they buy in comics from DC they can't return the ones that don't sell...they are stuck with them. For the first time because DC are pushing the DCnU so hard they have promised to take back any unsold stock so the retailers will buy excess stock.
My local shop says they will have poop loads more copies than usual over the next few months.
Now there is all this talk about Justice League #1 selling out and going for a 2nd printing....when in fact shops are holding more stock which may end up going back!

Flashpoint #5- A big fat "Meh", just like the entire series. Art is gorgeous though. Didn't see the reason for Flashpoint happening coming though, but it was a little lame. And felt thrown on at the last moment. Did this really need to be 5 issues. More like 2 issues.
JL #1-Enjoyable introduction to the DCnU. However, it felt like it was a very quick read, but at the same time the story progressed too slowly if that makes any sense. It was basically a batman/GL team up. I still enjoyed it though. I thought the art was great. I think I am actually going to like moving forward and not having to worry about continuity.
Bring on Action Comics next week.

ZOMFG!!!!!!!!!! www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album_view.php?gid=3581&page=26 pages from Action Comics #1. Straight-up, 1930s-style, badass, social crusader Superman. This is amazing!!!! Forever, when I read pretty much any Superman comic published after about 1970, the ONLY voice I hear in my head is Chris Reeve, or some variation of the Tim Daly/George Newburn gentle midwestern lilt. It's fitting. THIS is the first Superman comic I read that isn't actually a Golden Age comic where the voice I am hearing in my head is BUD COLLYER, or maybe George Reeves. Every single word Superman says here could come straight out of his dialogue from those first few years of Superman comics, or the radio show (which really, is as important as those early comics). He says everything with a half-smile. It's all, "So, you wanna play?" type old-fashioned badass. THIS feels fresh and different. And the best thing is? It's still clearly Superman. He's a little cocky but not arrogant (like Golden Age Supes) He's not hitting or hurting people less powerful than him. He's not being Batman and beating confessions out of people. He's a young man, reveling in his athletic physical power (appears to be like Golden Age/Fleischer Cartoons Supes in that he can't fly yet). My favorite thing about Fleischer Superman is his athleticism. Even in the ones where he's already flying, he still runs and leaps and crouches and REVS UP for those big fantastic feats. It's never quite effortless, but it's always GRACEFUL. That's how this feels to me. THIS is different. Nobody's tried to do this in a modern setting with Supes. I'm all over this.

Really enjoyed JLI. It just felt fun. And I'm a huge Jurgens fan, and also a huge Booster fan. So this comic felt really light and fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.
I also really enjoyed Superboy. It feels very different than what has been done before. I thought the book really quickly went downhill after about the first third, but then I learned what they were doing and did a complete 180 and thought it was really pretty cool. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet. But, I'm hooked.

I finally got a Detective...still no Animal Man.
I don't do the pull-list thingy simply because I'm a nazi when it comes to the condition of the books I select.

darn! i'm short on cash and theres alot of books i want to try out this week! i will go back and hope wonder woman and capt atom are still there! picked up "green lantern" and "green lantern corps" for my older boy. he's just at the right age to be into comics properly. you can be sure he has heard ALL the lectures about handling comics, and always having clean hands (NEVER eat while reading comics) and always always always put them in the bag when you're done!

an aside, JL#1 shows us that "fourth world/new gods" DO exist post-flashpoint which is cool. still no indication on JSA/golden age or SHAZAM.

What have you gotten so far? For me:
Justice League Action Detective Swamp Thing Batman Catwoman
I am surprised that I am really enjoying this reboot. The Batman stuff is really good to me...Batman moreso over Detective and Catwoman was a real good surprise to me. Action didn't really do anything for me...I doubt I'll even get the 2nd issue.

got GL and GLcorps for my boy, and i am very curious about capt atom and wonder woman and hawkman.
belloq is chasing more obscure titles and we're sharing notes as we go.

Word on the street is that Wonder Woman may be the best of the bunch.
My buddy enjoyed Captain Atom.
I'd buy more, but I'm broke.

So far I have checked out...
Justice League- I enjoyed it, but hopefully it picks up and gives us more than just an exploration of two characters in issue 2.
Action Comics-Loved it. Such a fresh take on superman. I like this "Golden Age" approach.
Animal Man-Interesting to say the least. Didn't really dig the art. I was ready to call it one and done for me though, until the end of the book. An interesting development that made me interested in issue 2.
Justice League International-A fun comic. Really enjoyed it. Jurgens writing was very 90's, but I love it. The art was really good. And I really love Booster. So this issue really was a winner for me. It was just fun.
Swamp thing-Eh, not for me. Critics seem to be loving this, but it's just not for me. Nothing compelling enough to bring me back for issue 2.
Green Lantern-Excellent as always. Johns and Mahnke continuing to do what they do.
Superboy- I liked this issue. I'm looking forward to see where they go with it from here.
Green Lantern Corps- Enjoyable. I really like the character of Guy, so this title is a winner for me. Not as good as the main GL book. But good nonetheless.
Nightwing- Always been a fan of vagina, but never actually read nightwing before now. I am a fan of vagina being his own man, with his own mantle. He doesn't work for me as batman. Many would disagree, but I am glad to see him back as nightwing. This felt like a perfect time to pick up this title.
Supergirl- Not much happened other than kara landing on earth. But, it's a "Super" book so I at least have to check it out. I enjoyed it. But, like I said not much happened. We'll see how issue 2 goes. Superman showed up on the last page, and it just confirmed that I am really not a fan of the new suit redesign. I'll probably get used to it, but with the exception of in JL, when he has popped up (Swamp thing and Supergirl) I haven't really been a fan. I guess it's how the artist draws it that determines really how I feel. Since I thought it looked pretty good in JL. But, again that was just one page, so we'll see.
What I'm planning on checking out next week.
Green Lantern-New Guardians Superman (very skeptical of this, Perez needs to win me over)
I might check out Flash if it gets good reviews.

been stymied today. couldn't get to my usual shop, passed one in another town and stopped in, i was going to get superman1 (even though i've got it pulled at my usual place) as well as flip through aquaman and see if they still had a few others. turns out, DIAMOND is getting some heat for shipping comics with damage. we're talking folds, bends and tears! my shop in westerville(columbus) had to have some replaced LAST week, and this week it happens again and shops are waiting to friday or monday for replacements. (from what i understand diamond is poopty anyway)
