Best known for her role as Clark Kent's (Christopher Reeve) mother in 1978's Superman, actress Phyllis Thaxter sadly passed away on Tuesday at her home in Florida at the age of 90. The Hollywood Reporter confirms the sad news that Phyllis Thaxter died on Tuesday at her in Florida after what they describe as, "a long bout with Alzheimer's." The actress will be best known to comic book fans for playing Ma Kent in Richard Donner's Superman over 30 years ago. "She was one of the most beautiful and patrician icons of the golden age of movies, TV and theater," veteran movie critic Rex Reed told the site. Thaxter was also known for roles in the likes of Bewitched, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and Act of Violence. RIP, Ma.

I love how this story has made SR become good! I've always thought it was good. The only thing I don't like about it is your tired jokes

if it is based on geof johns brainiac arc, then is going to be kick booty. If this is true & they make the artwork look like Gary Frank's artwork, I will take a dump on myself with excitement. Gotta go buy Depends.

Yes, but the films don't dwell on it, nor do they emphasize it instead of the heroic, entertaining stuff. Exaaaaaaaactly

I'd love to meet him. Bet he is a pretty big fan of Superman generally and would be nice to have a chat about Superman stuff. Shame it's too far from where I am though. The absolute nicest celeb that I have ever met. And its not an act. A very genuine human being who probabley has more respect for the character than anyone in the movie industry. Just a real decent human being from what I could ascertain.

Routh recently admitted that he passed on several roles because he was waiting for the sequel to Superman to be greenlit & also because he didn't want to play any role that he thought would tarnish the name of Superman because he was so protective of the image of the mantle.

Ye5man, of all people, you cant take a joke? ;D ;D ;D Go back to Alex so that he can read your PMs & help you gang up on people. Like the bully you have always been. You were only allowed here as a concession any way. So, behave.

I don't see why they cant just introduce new characters & have them be magnificent from the start. If it catches on, then the character will be cannon. If not, he/she will fade away like other failed characters. The people speak.
Retconing established heroes just to change their sexuality seems trendy & stupid.

I found Jor-L5150 like this, this morning: The ever reliable lads over at Bleeding Cool have revealed that they've recently heard rumblings that the DC Comics character about to be revealed as a magnificent man is none other that Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern who is currently making his presence felt in James Robinson's Earth 2 series. The site didn't run a story, but have now heard from another "much stronger" source that he is indeed the superhero about to come out of the closet. We'll be sure to bring you official confirmation when and if it comes. How do you guys feel about this news? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Yeah, just watched Iron Man 2 again. It gets better each time but the only thing I cant get over or forgive is the recasting of Rhodey.
In the first movie you TOTALLY buy him as a military man. Even though he's younger, he comes off as Tony's older brother, taking care of Tony like a brat little brother that Tony can be.
But in the second movie, it seems like Rhodey is on Tony's jock or something. Not cocksure or cool at all.
frack them for that recasting. It REALLY tarnishes part 2. All he asked for as what he was paid the first time. He should have gotten it. Every time I see Cheadle on screen, I'm sitting there not buying him as a badass & trying to picture Howard in the War Machine suit. FEH I say. FEH.

Kevin, I don't think you have an ulterior motive. That's fairly absurd. ;D I simply think Russ breaks his neck to run in & suck the joy out of the room any time that Gazer posts something positive about SR. Anyone who isn't a moron can see that. It's no different than Enrique with LOTR. Its funny at first, then tiresome. Russ, we get it, you don't like Routh's Neck & Christopher Reeve should be everyones Baby Daddy. But you know what? It's a message board, & its all about opinions.......... & dead horses. Its all good, lads. ;D
