Yeah the viewer is there to introduce it for later, the home movies and also one version of the depowering scene. Small floaty head and full body Jor-El are both definite no-no's for my cut.
The deleted scene footage seems a bit like a rehearsal, the line delivery and the on-set sound kill it for me.

I know it's personal preference but.... Lester credit first before Donners? Someone else mentioned that too. I have 2 versions of the credits, one leading into Paris and the other to the rocket throw. The Paris one has Lester first and the rocket Donner. Cannot wait to see the full thing! What is the plan for the Krypton trial recap? Same as the theatrical S2? It starts theatrical with the flaming turmoil altered to actually be the sun, fades to the Donner Cut as we arrive at the dome for the trial, then back to the theatrical for the Phantom Zone and credits.

The Lester chamber depowering was complete- I can totally get why that would be preferred, over the really incomplete RDC chamber depowering. What I don't understand is why Thau didn't think to pay for rotoscoping to use Kidder's reaction shots- if it was budget, it's understandable.... but that chamber depowering not only lacks Lois' closeups--- Clark's closeups are also repetitive and don't really add anything after a few seconds... again, I don't blame Donner for stuff that wasn't shot, but it really was one of the more disappointing scenes from the RDC... pity they couldn't figure out another solution to fully execute it. I think it's probably due to having a Donner alternative. Using as little Lester stuff as possible looked to be the mandate for making that cut. The Lester stuff is better and there is no way I'm going to use newly filmed footage of a body double if there is Reeve footage available.

WOW!!! Awesome.... Makes me wonder- new planning? If adding the suit to Supes when he de-powers & the clothes come back (Lester version)- then it does make a bit more sense when adding the suit reappearing for the repowering. Also, if the suit is added to the RDC depowering- then the Lester closeups of Lois in gown are easier to use.... interesting... I think the suit appearing out of nowhere was established in the first film when he jumps out the window, so I'm having that as my precedent for the suit coming back in the repowering. Awesome. Are you going to keep the Lester version of the crystal chamber? Or the Donner version? The theatrical was more traumatic, but maybe because I was 8 when I saw it! Lester.

I took out the smile as I decided that once Jor-El said Remember me and turned to the crystal mask, he was gone.
The turn from Superman 4 ended up being too short and incomplete. Had he turned around fully and stopped for a moment I might have gotten it to work but as it is I went with the shot from Superman 2.
I've gone and done the effect breaking through the roof. I wasn't going to bother as I thought I couldnt rotoscope the debris but I got it to work. I've tidied up some of the other effects and asome sound effects to the flying, so when I post an updated clip I'll include it.

I get where you're coming from, I have a new found appreciation for the Brandoless version too. Luckily when this project is eventually finished there will be the otpion to choose what version of the scene you want to see, this new version or the theatrical. I would love to see a repowering version that doesn't rely on Brando to be the one depowering. I prefer the version with his mother actually. And I also never liked the whole "kryptonian prophecy" thing either. There are also too many "look at me Kal El" lines! So my ideal dialogue would be: JOR-EL: Listen carefully my son, for we shall never speak again. You have made a dreadful mistake, Kal-El. You did this of your own free will. (Pause) Now you have returned to me for one last chance to redeem yourself. And this too, finally, I have anticipated my son. Look at me Kal El. Once before, when you were small, I died while giving you a chance for life. And even though it will exhaust the final energy left within me... CLARK: Father, no! JOR-El: (ignores his outburst) Farewell forever, Kal-El. Remember me, my son. I love the way you already cut out some of the lines about the circle being complete. And your reaction shots of Reeve are perfect. He looks so sad and crushed there, yet not overacting as he was in the 2006 Donner cut. The tricky balance is finding the line between what's preferential and what;s possible with the available footage. Unfortunatley with the score mixed in with all the dialogue, it makes crafting conversations difficult. Here's an outline for the project, I don't think I posted it here before. It will work like a choose your own adventure. Anyhow- awesome awesome awesome! Thanks for the feedback mate, glad you like it. What bits from the other revisions did you like?

It's definitely better. The Reeve-esque \S/ and the collar shape look good. Shame they're still sticking with the cape clasp attachments.

Hopeful for: #1: SII bluray letterbox extended tv cut #3: Arnie Kim's Hot Toys versions of the Phantom Zone criminals- saw photos of prototypes - and they're WONDERFUL! #5: (To a lesser degree) Hot Toys Nuclear Man ;p 1) Me too pal. 3) Hadn't seen these, wow, amazing stuff. Shame they're 1/4 scale and not 1/6. I love than non even has lifts on his shoes. 5) I made a start on one a while back, but never finished it. Hot toys needs to make an updated Brandon Routh Superman figure in the Kingdom Come inspired suit. The SR figure is pretty dated at this point and they’ve made some incredible advancements in sculpting and painting. I’d also take an updated SR figure along with it. They’ve got to know there’s some demand out there with his return to the Superman role being as well received as its been. I got a new head sculpt for my Routh Superman and changed out the body. The only thing original is the suit and boots. It's an improvement I think, but I'd love to see what HT could manage at their present quality level if they ever revisited it.

Ah, I guess that's what happens when you're trying to catch a quick vid at work, I missed the very end. Looks a lot like his dad.

Very interesting stuff. That news anchor has a Superman look to him too, he needs to stop skipping leg day though.

Ah, so nobody knows who Wonder Woman is because she takes out cameras with a baterang like headband. Er OK.
Not really bothered either way for this one. I was excited to see Ragnorok and it was pretty disappointing, though most people seemed to love it. This looks to have a similar vibe.

My concern for this show is going to be the writing. I stopped watching all the CW shows a while back because the writing was just utter poop across the board. 5 years of Arrow, 3 Flash and a couple of seasons of Legends and Supergirl and I'd had enough. I haven't seen anything of them since then. I'll be tuning into the the Ciris special for Routh, but I can't imagine this new show being anything other than more of the same. Who is Superman going to fight? Haven't all of his rogues gallery shown up on Supergirl already?

Yes, those shots were a pain in the behind. For example, there is shot lasting a second or so of Superman, stood still after getting up off the floor, its from a distance away from him and you can see a lot of the fortress around him. For that one shot I had to cut out Superman from a scene, rotoscope his movement, time reverse the footage and flip the image. I took a background from another scene but the villains were in it, so I had to Photoshop them out. I didn't like that Superman was over to the side of the shot, where he really should have been central, but moving the whole frame over, I created a large black background for a third of the shot, which I then had to fill in with various images of the fortress to fill in the space. Then I added a shadow for Superman and since the shot was flipped had to track and replace the S on his chest so it's the right way around.

Thanks for the best wishes CAM, yeah she's getting bigger so quickly, the last year and a half have flown by.
Crown, I got your sarcasm, I'm English so no worries there. I wasn't a fan of the ending either. I think I only watched it the once, so my memory isn't great on the details, but I remember it being less appealing than his new intro.

Booshman had a lot of traction on his cut, but it’s been years since we’ve seen anything new. I hope something new can come out in time for the movie’s 40th anniversary next year. I doubt I'll make the anniversary, but it's still coming. The latest clip was last March, so a while ago, but not years. I have a little girl now so my time is much less than it's ever been. It doesn't help that my plan for the movie has expanded a lot, meaning more editing, more effects and a particularly complicated bluray. If you haven't seen the outline on fe.org, it's basically a choose your own adventure style movie experience, which I've never seen done before. You can appreciate though, as a workload for one person, it's a lot. Latest video Scene outline

I went to see it twice. Loved it, but then I was only 4. These trips to the cinema and the STM VHS in my house were no doubt the start of the obsession.

I'd bet the farm on him not putting the suit on. Can't risk getting type cast now.
