As much as I love his past work, Jackie Chan as Superman would suck, regardless of his performance. That's not opinion my friend, but fact. What, you mean that 5 '8 Asian dude? Maybe if he was white, over 6', could really act, had a good physique, and could pull of a perfect American accent then he'd have a good chance. Maybe like Cavil? (assuming he can do the accent)

Hey, Dean Cain has Asian ancestry, and was a midget compared to Reeve and Routh.

. *sigh* I was making a gentle joke, because of how open the statement was phrased--- 'ANY actor in ANY role'- So I inserted the bit about international kungfu guy Jackie Chan as Superman. If the statement was phrased differently, it wouldn't have felt like an opportunity to dive in and try to joke. Thus, the wink face. Oh well.... I've always said that the internet is the best place for miscommunication. So it goes-

On another note, why not an ALL-CGI Superman? That casting should make everyone happy (except, for, of course, those who hate CGI)....

If it's from 92, then yeah. I love the heck out of that. Read it, imagine all of the Kandor stuff to be an extension of what we know the Donnerverse Krypton to be, imagine if they had cast somebody cool from that era like Julian Sands or Peter Weller as Brainiac, and put on the Williams score. From what I know, this was either gonna be Superman V with Reeve and company, or they were gonna re-cast with this one. One thing that was floated was bringing back Reeve and re-casting everyone else. I think at one point they were considering Gerard Christopher as Superman for this one, too? Anyway. It's awesome. It's certainly better than III or IV. You seen this manip before? I was reminded of it by your post, couldn't find it online, but it turned out I had it saved on a drive.

hmm... I get Margot Kidder, Annette O'Toole and Hackman in it--
But what gives with Michael Douglas and Clint Eastwood? (I haven't read the script yet, but thanx for the upload)---
Are there characters that seem like these guys would fit for in the script, or is this maybe just goofing around on the manipulator'ts part?
(Also can't figure out who the last actor is next to Hackman).
Weller would be fine as a villain, (he was great in Trek and '24' as a baddie) but someone mentioned the guy who played the villain in Matrix and also played Elrond in LOTR for Brainiac--- Personally, I think THAT would have been great casting!

Yeah, Donner and Salkind TOTALLY would've worked together again.

Wasn't there a time that Salkind mentioned possibly re-editing SII with Donner around the time of Superman V for WB, but WB wasn't interested? I remember reading some blurb about this on Superman Cinema--- but can't remember if it was a Salkind interview or whatnot.... If so, it definitely would boggle the mind- to have had them both in the same editing room for SII, years ago- but then again, 'classic' Donner might not have axed the arctic police scenes/etc. from his own cut, or wanted 'fast fast fast' pacing....

Hey thats something I made almost ten years ago throwing ideas around Forgot all about it. We had a thread coming up with ideas for a Superman V hmm... I get Margot Kidder, Annette O'Toole and Hackman in it-- But what gives with Michael Douglas and Clint Eastwood? (I haven't read the script yet, but thanx for the upload)--- Are there characters that seem like these guys would fit for in the script, or is this maybe just goofing around on the manipulator'ts part? Marc McClure next to Hackman. Michael Douglas was going to be Morgan Edge and Eastwood was Commisioner Henderson. I actually read an interview with Reeve from around 94 recently. he said if the Salkinds had come to him properly with a big budget well made Superman film he would have done it. He sounded rather annoyed with them over the fact that they were going to do it with Gerard and didn't even come to him first with a good offer.

Thread. Topic. Discussion. It was a lot of fun actually. Some really cool ideas got tossed around.
I almost wish The Salkinds had gotten to make their version even if it was with Gerard Christopher. Brainiac is long overdue for a film appearance.
I kinda wish Gerard HAD gotten the lead on Lois & Clark too. Stacy Haiduk vs Teri Hatcher - at their hotness peaks? Yes please. I guess we did get to see them go head to head in a way since SeaQuest was direct competition for Lois & Clark when it started.

If it wasn't going to be Reeve, I would have been totally fine with Gerard Christopher for the movie series at the time. Soon as he showed up as Superboy, instantly I thought, "Damn, he looks EXACTLY like I would picture him from the comics"--- something I never got from the first actor, either from the looks nor the performance. (Didn't help how horribly written and produced the first seaons was, either)
I know he gets a lot of flack here, but the L&C pilot is SO well done, and was such a pleasant small-screen surprise (found out that there was a letterbox version, just never released by WB- *sigh*), that I found myself fine with Cain- and a LOT of the choices that made...
Having said that....
If Gerard Christopher had been cast here, too, I would have been fine with it- Hard to envision better chemistry with Hatcher, though.
Also--- as you brought up the idea..... I TOTALLY would have been fine with Stacey Haiduck reprising her role as Lana in L&C and being a rival in the show for Supes'/Clark's affections- but, I think the creator/showrunners were too enamored with Lois and wantinig to be a version of 'Moonlighting"- and not enough with the Superman comics to embrace more of the elements of the comic books...
Odd how this flipped into an L&C thread- but, on another note, interesting to me how well produced the pilot was, but later on, how cheap the show looked not too long after....
I don't know if anyone checked out 'DeepSeaquest' (its competition at the time), but I think it's faded from memory, whereas anything Superman related has a giant forever afterlife (even if the Superboy subsequent seasons seem doomed to never come out on dvd..*sigh*)....

SeaQuest was a decent show at first. Not amazing but not terrible. I thought at times it tried too hard to be Star Trek TNG underwater but when it was good it was good. It struggled later that first year and in the second year the network made changes and the show became MUCH worse. They tried to fix it during the third season with more changes and while it was better it was too little too late. Roy Scheider was a great lead though. I really bought him in the role of Capt Bridger. It was said to see what happened to some of the cast. It was disappointing how the show turned out considering the crew behind it. Spielberg and Rockne S O'Bannon? In hindsight that's a heck of a team. At least O'Bannon had better luck with Farscape years later. And SPEAKING of Superman worlds colliding earlier Holy f***! Stacy still looks pretty fine. And Gerard STILL looks better than Dean Cain. Just like the last time we saw them at the same event. Cains face is starting to look like a shaved Kenny Rogers.

Wow. Gerard looks like he could play Supes NOW in the right kind of project.
And Haiduk is the all-time Superman babe. I don't think there's ever been a Superman actress with a body like hers. Good God...

Have you seen a B movie called Luther The Geek? 22 year old Stacy Haiduk in all her nude glory. Dear God. Youtube is your friend and YES its uncensored. I swear her body beats even young Teri Hatchers inch for supple inch. But yeah somebody get Gerard and Stacy for a Superman short film or something NOW. Gerard as Superman and maybe Bruce Thomas as Batman? Tell me that wouldn't be cool. If I had the money I'd do it just to do it.

Speilberg and tv don't seem to be the greatest mix..... Even though there's always $$$ behind his productions--- seen some of his 'Amazing Stories' and 'Terra Nova'--- very blah and derivative for the most part.
Is Rockne S O'Bannon related to Dan O'Bannon, the Alien and "Dark Star" writer?
