If it's in print, it must be true.

Thats sad. Its as if whoever wrote the article, included SIII just so they could slam SR, even if it meant saying with a straight face that SIII is better than SR. But Superman III is better than SR.

You're right. Its hard to beat a Richard Pryor movie that has Superman as a guest star. Skiing down the side of a building in a Pink Table Cloth FTW!

Exactly. I'm happy as long as we're not overrating SR for once.

I have to concur. Great freaking movie. Awesome. I still get shivers down my spine everytime I watch it. Just like STM.

Superman Returns is hardly the Batman Begins of the Superman franchise. You're right. Its the replacement for Superman III No SR is the replacment for SIV: A Superman movie with good intentions that fails miserably!

no........... BB and the Dark Knight are both light years better than ANY Superman film.
STM: Gay song and turning back time (hyperbole here)
SII: Donner Lester frankenstein mess (true enough)
SIII: One Word: Richard Pryor (yep)
SIV: Not gonna even go there.. (hahahahaha)
SR: Cape not red so it sucks worse than anything has ever sucked b4 (come'on a BROWN CAPE??? 250 mil and they can't afford to WASH the damn thing I mean jebus...)
Oh and didn't BB make more money than SR considering SR cost a billion quarters to make???

Oh and didn't BB make more money than SR considering SR cost a billion quarters to make??? Superman Returns earned $391,081,192 worldwide. Batman Begins earned $371,853,783 worldwide. Superman Returns also had a larger opening weekend.

WB's past expenses on getting the franchise off the ground starting with Burton/Cage till we got Singer, that money is NOT part of Singer's budget!
So SR did not cose a bilion quarters to make..

True, but it was added to the total budget. Is that fair? No. Is it Hollywood? Yes.

They opened basically the same way BB at $48,745,440, SR at $52,535,096 with a similar average per screen. BB made $205,343,774 in 142 days while SR made $200,081,192 in 128 days. SR made more money in the foreign countries ($191,000,000 vs. $166,510,009). They were both similarly popular when they first came out, however, the studio expected much more from SR since it's production budget was higher than BB AND cuz it was Superman.. That said, general audiences DON'T give a crap about production budgets or anything like that, they just want to be entertained. SR also had Pirates 2 to compete with, the sequel to a VERY popular first movie. Plus some of the Superman fandom, the hardcore Welling fans especifically, hated everything about this film before even began filming. They couldn't understand how the studio could have cast another actor instead of the show's tv star. BB DIDN'T have that to go against it. Sure, there was the shadow of B&R, but SR also had the shadow of SIV. Despite all that, SR made almost $400 mil WW, and without a supervillain or lots of action. Not bad. I wish the studio could realize all this. SR was ONLY the beginning of the adventure... but now, soo much potential is probably going to be wasted and thrown to the trash.. I hate WB.

I was a hardcore Welling supporter before the movie came out. Routh won me over. He is Superman. I still like Welling, but Routh is Superman. Plain and simple.

I might have accepted Welling if Smallville had stopped after season 3 or 4.
But, after Smallville got so silly later on, & after seeing Routh in action,
ROUTH IS SUPERMAN.

Well actually SR had a HUGE advantage over BB since everyone was eagerly anticipating Superman's Return to the big screen. Superman is Americana and a part of our mythology... the idea of having him return was a huge deal for a lot of us. Plus everyone was stoked that Singer was onboard cause X2 was so awesome Comparatively, there wasn't too much anticipation behind BB. It kinda came out of left field and no one knew Nolan could do a superhero movie. Batman had already been done to death in the 90's and we were already 'content' with the original Burton 'origin' story. Of course BB is now up there with STM as the greatest superhero origin ever put on film. That's why the world was stoked about The Dark Knight WELL BEFORE Ledger's death. I guarantee you if they make another Routh Superman movie it won't do any better that Superman Returns (it'll probably do much less actually) and it won't touch The Dark Knight. BTW, I think that the ROUTH IS SUPERMAN thing is flawed cuz we all know Reeve was better than Routh. The next Superman must surpass Reeve not imitate him.

NO, not everyone in the whole freaking world was eagerly anticipating another Superman movie as you say. FACT. If they were, the opening weekend would have broken records at the BO. The rest of your argument is pure opinion and speculation based on your ridiculous hate for all things SR.
