WB wants Nolan because he made them money. He made them money by rebooting Batman. When he rebooted Batman, he kept nothing from the previous Batfilms. Not any actors, not the music, nothing. He even made sure that the print campaigns were completely different.
Trust me, I'd love to be dead wrong about this, & I'd celebrate if I were.
But I'm not.

Ok but the Burton Schumacher Batmans were shit. Don't get me wrong there are things I like about each and I still enjoy watching the first but again.... shit... Superman Returns even with its problems still had a good Superman, a good score, and a good villain. Besides the first Batman none of the villains were good and I dare say the Batmans besides Keaton were poorly done in some manner....

Wait. Didn't WB loose rights to several key elements in the origin story of Superman? Or do they have these rights until 2011?
Could mean one of these 1. Not going to be a Origin story, Doesn't mean it's not a reboot, just not a from day zero retelling. 2. They have the rights until 2011, if so this movie needs to be fast tracked.
I wonder what the language is on the rights/2011 issue is. Does a Superman movie have to be completed or released in 2011? Or are they only required to be at a certain stage of production at that point? If they only have to have a locked script and cast by sometime in 2011 this is a possibility. But I don't see them starting at this point from scratch and having a winter 2011 film. Especially if Nolan is involved and is going to deliver Batman 3 in 2012.
Around the time of Batman Begins Nolan stated that he wanted to tell Batman Origins because it hadn't been done before and deserved to be told. Nolan also likes to be original, but he respects the comics. So I doubt he would want to tread on perfection. Superman The Movie already told the origin of Superman and I doubt the Origin section of that film could ever be topped. So he may choose to revamp this fresh, but I doubt we get a full blown origin story. Maybe some flashbacks, which is Nolan's style.
KEEP GOYER THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR! KEEP HIM THE FUCK AWAY!

Oh GOD, if Goyer directs...
Does anyone here think Singer and Routh have a chance at all?

Therte is a very good chance the music will remain. Infact I wouldn't be suprised if Williams is approched (please no Zimmer!).
Elfman's Batman theme had been jettisoned after 2 movies - how could Nolan have gone back to it? However Williams' themes have been consistant.
Ottiman's score deviated too far from Williams to the point were it only shone (for me) when Williams motifs came out - so get Williams or Don Davis!

Yeah, might be time to bring the franchise back to Milton Keynes, I think. Composer and editor the same person? WTF was up with that anyway? Ahh, this explains a lot.

Yeah, might be time to bring the franchise back to Milton Keynes, I think. Or to Canada?

The Argos was the Metropolis hotel
The Daily planet was the Milton Keynes botanical gardens entrance (and inside was the museum with the strand of hair)
or you could always fall back on some Donner stock footage!

True.
Thanks for the correction, Russ. Proof, if ever it were needed, that I really do know sweet FA about Superman.

Yeah, I'm not that out of touch with Superman. I've seen all the original Chris Reeve films. Just gotta watch The Donner Cut of SII and Superman Returns. Used to watch Lois and Clark every now and again too. Have a few comics. Liked the arcade game. I even have a couple of "S" shirts somewhere. I am a fan of Superman. Like I'm sure I've said before, Chris was one of my childhood heroes and SII will always be one of my top ten films. It's just that I'm not as dedicated as most here, that's all.

I want fresh everything: New themes, new actor, new director, new everything. I dunno about Nolan playing a consulting role, but he does know how big films are put together - maybe a good idea. In my opinion, Superman is at least two to three years away from greenlight, but stranger things have happened.

I want fresh everything: New themes, new actor, new director, new everything. . The John Williams music has to stay. Regardless of anything else, that music is too important. It's like the James Bond theme. 007 directors and actors come and go, but the theme music is bigger than all of them.

The Supes films should have had more capers like Bonds, and more actors portraying him. I dare say WB have lost out on billions in lost revenue over the years. We should be gearing up for Superman Returns III in 2 years with Routh firmly settled and well established. Instead he's appearing in some shitty TV show barely anyone as heard of Just one film between 1988-2010 (and counting)

This news about Nolan is interesting as it raises some very important questions amongst fans.
For example, will he look at the previous Reeve movies and look at what made Superman 'great' ?
Will he keep the some of the great things of SR ?
Or will he go into a 'start from scatch' policy where the whole theme, costume, backstory is reinvented and everything done before is ignored?
If it's the latter, I seriously hope it's because of damn good ideas, rather than doing it just for the sake of doing it.. Superman isn't really the character that can be reinvented like Batman, as he doesn't rely on technology for his 'powers' the same way Batman does. All I hope is they keep the blue, red and yellow theme for Superman and don't go into this less is more and darker/black is better crap.

You left out: 1) Will the story be told in chronological order? 2) Will Christian Bale be Superman? 3) Will Michael Caine be Jor-El?

I don't want Nolan directing, but I like the idea of him producing and consulting. I can live without Singer. I'd GREATLY PREFER to see Routh back in the cape. If they jettison everything else, I won't bat an eye.
Give me Superman versus Brainiac and his army of Terminator-like kryptonian technology robots. In space. Please.
