I dunno if Chris Nolan will make a Justice League movie (anything is possible due to $$$$), it seems to "out there" for him. But if he is able to "Nolanifi" Superman, I do see a Batman/Superman movie in the future. Which I couldn't see happening with the Singer/Donnor-verse films. BUT this could be a deal for WB basiclly saying " You guys can make awesome sucessful comic book movies, if you promise to keep those films going. Inbetween those films we will make just about anything you wish". Nolan would be a fool not to take that deal. One for the studio one for Nolan is a smart as heck approach that will keep him busy, happy and paid for a career. If this keeps up I doubt Nolan will ever set foot on another studio lot again. I remember seeing Memento is a small theater with about 5 people in it 10 years ago. Who would have thought this guy would be the up and coming king of hollywood in less than a decade?
Other than Singer coming back this news is AMAZING. Let's hope this rings true. With the Nolans on board your going to get at the very least a good film. Defiantly what Superman needs is a fresh pair of eyes that are interested in "re-charging" the character rather than changing for the sake of making it different (JJ Abrams). Your going to get a new score, new actors, new visials etc, and it will probably be well made and tasteful.
With all due respect to Donnor and what Singer tried to do, that day has come and gone. STM will always live on as a classic but it's time for something different. Even if Singer and Routh were to return, I want something different. I have been waiting for a SUPER Superman movie for a long time, this should do it.
I know how STM fans feel. The movie that changed my life as a cinema goer was seeing Batman 89 when I was nine years old. At the time it was magic, I didn't notice or care about it's flaws, in 1989 to me as a kid, That was how movies to should be made. So when that franchise was milked to death and a reboot was needed it was hard for me to except. I was living in Hollywood when Batman Begins was greelit and tried hard as heck to get the script (which was eventually leaked) because I wanted to know what they were doing. I was happy when I read it and with the same hands on Superman I've got faith.
On WB's part they should beware, they seem to be putting all their eggs in one basket with the Nolans. While the Nolans don't seem fickle (like some other directors) if they ever decided to walk, WB has let two prized possessions into someone elses' hands, hands that won't be easy to fill.

This is worrying and most likely BS. Trusting Superman to someone with no directorial experience?

It say he MAY make his directorial debut..Nothing is confirmed. Not Jonah not Goyer, we can all be getting hopes up for nill. Also everyones talking about SOMETHING NEW AND FRESH, well what would that be? Superman is superman, are we talking a new suit? new origins? a black lois? a blonde hair superman? a new name for daily planet? no kent farm? superman and lois are not in love? not from krypton? like whats new and fresh?

A new take on the characters, a different vision. One only has to look at the drastic difference in tone between Burton's 1989 Batman film and Nolan's take. Everyone has the same name etc. But situations are presented differently and direction and tone are much different. But both these films are considered good and faithful adaptations of the comics. There is a VAST history of Superman from the comics, but yet all anyone ever seems to want to draw from is that wonderful film in 1978. Superman is Superman but it existed DECADES before the movie, and it has existed decades after (and will continue to). Granted there have not been as many different takes and revamps of Superman than there has been of a character like Batman in the comics, there is still a wealth of material to take from to make a fresh, new, yet faithful movie. IMO saying something needs a fresh take doesn't mean it needs changing for the sake of changing. I was against JJ Abrahms take, I would have loved to see Burtons take, but admit it wouldn't have been a proper Superman film. There is so much potential in a new Superman film. Singer got some of that right, but missed the opportunity to show the world why Superman was FUCKING SUPER. At the end of the day Superman's return to the theater should have floored people and there should have been a worthy physical challenger to Superman to show off some awesome special effects, to bring to life those amazing moments from the comics that would have never been possible until CGI tech. This is coming from someone who LOVES Superman Returns, but I think it is just as respectful to the original film to say "There will never be another Reeve or another Donner. They did that well, they had their time, let's do something different."

But let's remember that he has been heavily involved in some way shape or form in most of his brothers films. If he is half as talented as his brother I think most will be happy with the results. I'll take this over Goyer directing any day.

I can't emphasis those WB 1996 toons should be used as templates enough. I prefer those as a backdrop to the "Donnerverse". No moping about, lets just have a lot of fun with the characters

agree 100%. if they did a complete live-action adaptation of the pilot alone, i'd be a happy fuckin' camper. the krypton sequence in that is brilliant. it'd be a great way to get away from the donnerverse and set up brainiac to boot.

I love Brando in STM, but I have to admit that Jor-El in Smallville looks much much better.

Doe anyone remember the advert that surfaced long before SR was released with a guy flying around.
It was damn impressive and made me believe the guy was flying for real. Nothing in SR instilled that feeling. The new movie should.

My buddy just phoned me about meeting Ilya Salkind at the NYC comic con today. He asked Ilya about his thoughts on SR and Ilya proceeded to go off on how much it sucked. He said it was a knock off of the first Donner film. He said that Singer just took the plot about Luthor sinking California into the ocean but instead chose to raise up a continent in the middle of the ocean. He said Superman was too much of a wimp and had no business spying on Lois or having a baby out of wedlock with her. He said Superman wouldn't just abandon Earth and that SR should have used more of the Williams music instead of just having it in spurts. Afterward, my buddy asked for an autograph on some random Superman comic and Ilya wanted $25 to do it. My buddy said he only had $10 left and Ilya said he'd sign it for that but wouldn't pose for a photo.

Funny- interesting to read .... though Ilya is no Richard Donner. Sad that Ilya would need $25 that badly....

A bit behind here, but more thoughts from me ...
I did get what I wanted from Superman Returns. I view Superman, Superman II and Superman Returns as a nice trilogy, and Returns gave me some closure. I'm happy with the ending that presents this: Superman is back Things will start getting better around the world because of it He was able to make amends with the ones he hurt And although it's not your typical happy ending, he continues to expand his figurative family with a literal addition in Jason
Now that it's wrapped up, at least in my mind, I want a different take. I still want a blue suit with bright, red boots and a cape, I still want Metropolis, I still want the staples of the franchise, but it's time for a new interpretation.
For now, all there is, is Smallville. While it's by no means a great show, it's at least got the balls to try something different.
That said, I think the film franchise needs at least another five years of rest.

Photos $25 Autograph $10 Opinions on Superman product $5

;D
To be fair, though--- I've heard stories (and experienced a few) about in-person meets with celebs at comic conventions.
One I'd heard was about how some jerk fans put their buddy in a wheelchair to get to the front of a line (posing as being disabled) for Patrick Stewart to sign items, then sell them off for a profit and laughing about it at a bar across the street from the convention. When Stewart got wind of it, he apparently (and who could blame him?) got so pissed off at being made a fool like that by strangers, he walked out of the convention.
David Carradine apparently got pissed at a convention that someone would try to take his photo without being paid $10 (who I think should have been somewhat flattered that a fan remembered who the old man was at the time)--- but who knows? Ebay has a lot of dealers that make money off celeb photos and autographs, so maybe it's fair that they ask for money....
On the flip side, I remember my friend's kids were at one time excited to see some of the supporting co-stars (I don't remember who) of "Aliens"- at a convention--- and ran up to them and asked for their autograph, only to be scolded about the cost. Adults are one thing....but kids? Not so cool, as it took a lot of courage for the kids to ask the actors about the autograph in the first place...
So......I'm wary about seeing celebs at a convention. Some are awesome to speak to in person (the Chief from "Galactica" is a great guy to chat with), others are there out of desperation for a buck, and it's a little bit awkward to interact with those celebs who only see you as the person who they resent having to ask for money (Marina Sirtis anyone?).
So--- It may sound bad, but I know Ilya's not the only celeb at the comic cons who have that rule with them.

Posed for photos and talked to me for a few minutes even though I didn't pay for an autograph and I was holding up the line. Has probably the longest legs I've ever seen on a woman, especially that age.
Worst convention celeb- Peter Mayhew. Total douche who barely looked at me or acknowledge any of the people waiting to get his autograph. I was never a fan but I got an autograph just because the "celeb mystique" kicked in but I trashed his autograph as soon as I got home.

A friend of mine wanted to take a picture with him at ComicCon and he refused, something about the picture being misused online. Not to mention he charges for pretty much everything. Wasn't Episode III his first work since ROTJ?
