That said, I think the film franchise needs at least another five years of rest. what on gods earth would make you say that??? make some sense of that someone please... have'nt we waited long enough? ?? Because less is more. A rushed attempt so soon after Superman Returns may do more damage to the franchise, tiring out the public even further. While enthusiasts like us may want it, to the general public, "it's another Superman movie ... didn't they just make one a few years ago?"

Personally, I think as long as a new trailer (whether for MOS or reboot) shows something FRESH ((Brainiac done properly! Darkseid! SOMETHING with a new villain!)) and has a moment of 'holy cow that's COOL!'--- it will bring attention.
I was shocked that a great trailer alone brought "300" a great opening day. I doubt it was enough fans of the comic that made that particular film a hit.
Could be wrong of course- but that's my theory. An awesome trailer and something new in it that we haven't seen EVER before.

Seeing as Salkind came up with the plot and the score and everything else on STM, he definitely can talk shit about another movie.
Oh, wait, thaaat's right.Did he come up with ANYTHING that helped STM creatively? At all? Out of curiosity?

Yep, just listen to his commentaries.
I-this, me-that. Shut the phuck up you douche! The movie was success because of everyone involved. Yes...even you, Ilya.

This is worrying and most likely BS. Trusting Superman to someone with no directorial experience? I think that's a very unfair criticism. Even Donner only had one major hit under his belt before he got the job for SUPERMAN, and it was THE OMEN. Now if you go back and think about it, would Donner really seem like the best candidate for Superman after making a film like that? Probably not, but the Salkinds saw something in it and decided to go with him. Joel Schumacher had tons of directing experience. He still made BATMAN & ROBIN. Bryan Singer had lots of experience. He then made SUPERMAN RETURNS (arguably a very weak, though well-intentioned, Superman movie). It's less to do with experience and more to do with the attitude and sensibility towards the characters.

Didn't Donner direct Shatner in that infamous Twilight Zone episode? The Gremlin/Plane one?

There's a middle ground I think that's good to look at. Donner had done TONS of television (as had Speilberg) before doing their first feature film.
Thus, they know how to shoot fast (if they need to) and make something look good at the same time.
I agree that the most experienced person could still do a terrible movie- but it certainly wouldn't hurt Jonathan Nolan (if he is indeed the director) to direct some other things FAST before lunging straight into a Superman movie.
Sam Raimi has said how doing Spiderman 1 prepared him in a lot of ways for what to do and NOT do for Spiderman 2. (*Spiderman 3 was a giant studio fiasco that had bad in-fighting from the getgo, so let's not count that one)---
Doing ANY feature I'm sure helps the person be better at planning and shooting. Xmen 2 was miles better than Xmen 1. I still hold out that if Singer did an SR 2/MOS that it would leave SR in the dust in a simliar way.
Having someone new with little experience? It's definitely a gamble if there's a learning curve, and most likely there will be.

Didn't Donner direct Shatner in that infamous Twilight Zone episode? The Gremlin/Plane one? Indeed he did, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," my favorite Twilight Zone episode. And yes, I've still yet to see any kind of confirmation or official announcement on Warner Brothers becoming Nolan Brothers (well said, Shane ;D).

As much as I used to rag on the Salkinds for firing Donner early on--- Still have to give credit to the man for doing what DC/WB seem to take decades to do:
Get the ball STARTED and ROLLING on a Superman movie. And he hired Donner and got the money going on it.
I still think Lester is the true evil that destroyed the original movie series. But.... in any case,
I think he's fun to listen to on the commentaries, but there's hardly ANY celebrity I would want to pay $10 to take their picture with at a convention.
I think it's ok for them to ask, (doesn't mean that anyone is necessarily going to give it to them) but at this point I've also gotten used to the money-grubbing nature of most comic cons at this point.
A few might be there for love of the fans, but I tend not to assume that's NOT the case.
*$igh. ;p

I just heard on G4 channel a little bit ago that Goyer is set to write the new Superman movie.
I'm heading to the website to see if there is anything more posted on it. There was no captions on that little news feed, so I didn't catch everything the girl said.

My buddy just phoned me about meeting Ilya Salkind at the NYC comic con today. He asked Ilya about his thoughts on SR and Ilya proceeded to go off on how much it sucked. He said it was a knock off of the first Donner film. He said that Singer just took the plot about Luthor sinking California into the ocean but instead chose to raise up a continent in the middle of the ocean. He said Superman was too much of a wimp and had no business spying on Lois or having a baby out of wedlock with her. He said Superman wouldn't just abandon Earth and that SR should have used more of the Williams music instead of just having it in spurts. Afterward, my buddy asked for an autograph on some random Superman comic and Ilya wanted $25 to do it. My buddy said he only had $10 left and Ilya said he'd sign it for that but wouldn't pose for a photo. Assuming this story is accurate, I'm not sure if Mr. Salkind is one to be judging a new Superman movie, from a fan's point of view. SUPERMAN III had worse atrocities like Superman bedding down Lorelei, putting in a comedian as the main star, putting in Atari Pac-Man effects for a major battle, letting Lois go for 90% of the movie, and bastardizing Williams's score.

I guess he feels that Singer should have learned from those mistakes. I felt that same way when I saw the Wolverine movie. It's like they didn't learn a damn thing from the X-Men trilogy and just kind of slapped some B movie storyline together. I'm not saying that's what Singer did, but I can see where Salkind's coming from.

Ken Thorne's music is one of the highlights, in my opinion.

Yeah, seriously. Thorne's music is pretty well done. I couldn't disagree more. I enjoyed Thorne's work in II, but III was a tired, lackluster effort. Just listen to the music during the acid factory. It's as hackneyed and as shallow as one can imagine. This is not a slight against Mr. Thorne, who sounds like he's a nice guy. I just abhorred his work on III. And SUPERMAN RETURNS was a far, far, far better movie than SUPERMAN III.
