Loved the scene.
Hate the color filter.

All kidding aside, its easily my favourite bit of the film. Some good visuals and excellent music. Its a pity the love theme never gets out of first gear but does work in context.
I would like a poster of the shot of them floating infront of the Planet building, maybe a more abstract version (so its not specifically Routh & Bosworth)

Yeah, definitely one of the many beautiful "Oh man, that's something I've always wanted to see," shots in SR.

I watched SR a couple of nights ago on DVD. It was the first time I have seen it all the way through since 2006.
I have to admit, it is not total crap in the same way as the Star Wars prequels.
Instead, it is a disappointing failure -- along the lines of Quantum of Solace.
SR had a very good lead actor, who did the best he could. Just like QoS.
And similarly, both movies contain many individual scenes and elements that are good, but they just don't work together to make a good film. This, I believe, stems from having retards write the scripts and do the editing in both cases.
Three other things stood out too:
1) SR was WAY too dark. It was almost impossible to see Superman in many scenes.
2) Superman wasn't in the movie enough. There was far too much of Lex and his cronies and Lois and Richard crap. The Return to Krypton scene would have probably helped this.
3) Far too melodramatic and depressing. Church music doesn't belong in a Superman movie.

Why did they put lifts/glorified heels on those boots? That pic manip shows how ridiculous it is.

Well, I like that you gave details on why you didn't like the film (although this forum seems to love that derogatory term 'retards' for some reason)- Except for deleting a couple of key moments, I thought the editing/music was fantastic (it's rare to see the composer & editor be the same person- in a way, I wonder if the composer/editor is more invested in the material BECAUSE they're responsible for both.), although I'd love an extended cut. The writing I thought was smart- although I'll be the first acknowledge that there are a few nods in the dialogue too many that refer to STM that I found a little distracting. This is the same team that wrote/edited Xmen 2, which is arguably one of the best superhero films ever. The movie worked overall but the Lex stuff weakens it. With 'The Dark Knight', both the Bruce Wayne story and the Joker story had the same levels of intensity. Had Lex's storyline (or how Lex was treated) been less focused on providing dark quirky humor instead on reinventing him as the coolest villain alive- then it might have strengthened the second half of the film or the horrific nature of the threat. Still- I'm glad that you shared more of why you didn't like it, at least I get why you didn't. For me, I thought SR was a perfect way to bring the character back, and also help fill in nods of how his character may seem more 'innocent' than other folks who had gone through the world events recently. (If he'd been away for awhile, there's more sympathy for someone catching up to the world vs. a Superman who's been here all along and let the world turn to....crap.) Oh well- again, it all comes back to the same thing. For those who liked it/disliked it, there's gonna be no sequel to SR, so it's more/less a dead subject. End of story, barring a miracle.

I think the editing in SR is bloody awful. Many people on here have given ideas how it could have been much better.
QoS has terrible "short term" editing and SR has terrible "long term" editing.

I think the editing in SR is bloody awful. It is awful, and it's evident that it was the result of many decisions that were made* at the last minute or without any planning. * By retards.

Some sequences I think could have been conceived/done better (ie- the rescue of Metropolis bits, the Luthor stuff), but I thought the scene by scene editing wasn't a problem for me- I thought it quite good. But would have preferred that they have given up some moments for others- for sure, restore the RTK scene.

Yeah, the editing in SR was ok to me too overall. And yes, storywise, the RTK scene should have been in the theatrical cut. First scene in the movie. Well second, the text should have been first, then RTK, and right after that the opening credits.

Scene by scene it was fine. Overall structure of the film was pretty poor.
Luthor shouldn't have been in til Supey got to Metropolis IMO. Let's get re-established with the main character first
and that 3rd act...next time I get insomnia I sure know what to do

Aw, really nice tweet today:
JPpassion923 Jonathan Pierson @brandonjrouth On our first date, my wife and I went to see Superman Returns. That was five years ago today. A special day and a great movie
I remember the first day I saw the film, I just couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Such a powerful movie, it's like an emotional rollercoaster. And I ended up watching it many times on the big screen. I couldn't have enough.

Saw it 5 times in the theater. Each time it was better.

As soon as I saw it the first time- I left the theatre almost shaken by how ambitious the film was for a superhero film.
First and foremost, it was a character piece and was a true love letter by Singer to the Donner films.
As much as I loved the film, it's still painful years later to know how much the sequel would have been even better than the first, but will never happen.
*sigh*

Its the first film me and missus saw together too (at the cinema), and we're both Supey fans. However, we've never seen it again together ;D

It's like when my team's star went down with an injury in the playoffs, everyone was saying they were destined to win the title if not for that fluke. It's a case of people telling themselves what they want to hear. There's no way of knowing how the sequel would have, could have turned out. If anything, it almost seems like it would have been better by default... because there were plenty of flaws which they would have an opportunity to rectify. This is not the same as saying it was destined for greatness.

I disagree. I think a sequel in Singer hands could have been even greater than SR already was.

but the sad truth is that none of us have any idea how it would turn out. Look at crystal skull, who would have thought that it would have the problems that it does Eh, we should have known... Spielberg stopped playing his A-Game years ago in the fun/action genre. Aside from Catch Me If You Can, nothing he has made since Schindler's List was fun and exciting. It's either been intense and heavy (historical stuff, Minority Report) or remarkably dull (AI, Terminal, Lost World, War of the Worlds) Plus, Lucas has way too much control over the script, which was the #1 contributing factor to its suckitude.

Superman doing his best to protect the world and his family against a new supervillain like Brainiac or even Zod, would have made a sequel even more satisfying. And Singer has a good track record in that aspect. But even if he didn't return, there are other directors who could have done a good job.
