That's not a bad idea. I had originally dubbed the line in for when The villains enter the fortress (Veris did it in his cut as well). But then I realized that only a minute later Zod tells Supes that he'll be his slave for all eternity. So I said "Ah, THAT'S why Donner left it as a deleted scene". Not to mention the effects for the villains crashing in were lackluster.
Still, now I'm thinking, what other parts would be good for dubbing that line in. CAM made good use of it in his Metro battle sequence. He added some scenes of them chasing him before they land and have their "talk". So he put the line in there. Worked well I must say.

I just love the way Terence Stamp says that line, totally over the top, great!!!
I like also, how Lex cowars behind Lois, just excellent. I would have that scene for sure, even though the FX are poor. Like how they all fly away from the fortress then swing back-very gracefully.
I wish I had of watched this scene when I was outlining my edit.

-Could be used over ''Son of a coward'' perhaps?
Then,Superman,as he steps out from the chamber ''I expect better manners from my guests,Zod''.
What do you think?

Tyler, Do you have any youtube clips? Go back to the 2nd page of this thread. Look for the "vimeo" link and my huge description that explains how and why I made the cuts/edits.

Just had a look at the preview Tyler and it's a great piece of editing, it has resurfaced my interest in this film after 3 years. The only thing I was disappointed to not see in the preview was the fate the villians (the Arctic Police or did they die?) and Lex Luthor. I loved what you did with the scene where Clark faces Jor-El, Reeve's acting isn't great in these scenes. By eliminating the most chessy dialogue the scene stands out much better. The Lois reaction shots from Lester are much better.

I didn't put that in because A) This preview clip showcases my major edits, not which scenes I chose to keep or not, and B) pretty much every fan edit I've seen (and I've seen ALL of them) adds the arctic police scene in. The only REAL difference in mine is that I used the clip from Jimbo's cut which adds the Lex theme during the scene, as well as a bit of color correction.
To answer your question, yes my scene has the arctic patrol. Unlike the theatrical version, Superman takes responsibility for his actions in my cut. No murder, no amnesia kiss.
Though I will say this, if the FOS is merely floating above water, what "abyss" did the villains fall into anyway? Shouldn't we have heard a "splash" sound when they fell instead of an "echo scream"? Looks like Donner wasn't too sure where to go with them either.
If I had real video editing skills, I would edit the clip of Non rolling around after the "cellaphone S" captures him, the clip of Ursa on the ground after Supes pushes the finger beam back at them, and maybe the shot of Zod on the ground after Superman kicks him to the ground during the Metro battle, and use those clips during the big triumphant scene. To show that the villains do live. Either that, or simply add "ground" to where they fall and do a quick cut-a-way.

I would like to ad that scene into my next edit of II,but-I don't like the dialogue of the police,''hit em' on,move em' out''-awful.
Again,I think Gene Hackman is excellent here, brilliant.

Just finished watching your cut,Tyler. Very interesting work,I love the opening logos, the trail and opening credits, very similar to Lester's cut, liked your inclusion of Jor-El,liked the recap of STM I would like something similar but to include the release of the villains at he end of STM so,continuity wise it works with my cut of STM.
The opening was good,DP jump which I have mentioned before.
Liked the edit of Clark and Lois by the waterfall, taking out the 'glasses clean-scene' and subsequent dialogue, very good.
Similar to what you have in your cut in regards to the hotel revelation scene:
-I would like to use an exterior shot of the hotel, from TLC and adding script from TDC so it's as follows: (words not 100% accurate, but you see what I mean)
Ext. Niagara Falls-DAY. The camera pans across to The Honey Moon Hotel-. We HEAR Clark's voice V/O:
Clark: Lois,we've been through these hallucinations of yours before. Throwing yourself off a building 30 stories high? Can't you see what a tragic mistake you almost made?
INT. Hotel-DAY. Moments Later:
Lois:...Not only have I lost my mind, I have Lost my comb. Clark would you pass the the comb, over there?
Play that scene as is in TLC,but after Clark turns to face Lois taking his glasses off and he looks at her have the line from TDC of Lois saying: ''I guess I've known this for the longest time.'' (I personally love Margo's line reading here) Then play scene as is to the end.
Liked Superman returning back to Metropolis, good editing and done away with the Bill Cosby pic, very good.
adding ''Son of Jor-El,prepare to die!!'' during fight.
finally as I said before Superman stepping out of the Chamber,''I expect better manners from my guests,Zod''
I definitely will be looking at my edit again with the above in mind once I get sorted with a DVD editing programme.

Thanks for the compliments. And THANK YOU for pointing out how I removed Bill Cosby. For me, continuity of Perry's office is KEY for my cut so that later on at the end with the "Hydrogen bomb" scene, we see that the office now looks slightly different. A good editing way to explain the change in how his office looks.
Anyway, I just got an email from the admin at fanedit.org. He said he's gonna get my cut up tonight. So hopefully tomorrow my updated version will be ready for public consumption. I'll start a new thread here to let everyone know.

As much as I like Cosby,I don't want him in a Superman film. If Lester had of been on the ball a bit more he would have had a picture of Richard Pryor in there ahead of S3.
I love Donner's reaction of Lois looking up ''Superman!'',Margo looks so much better too,the exterior cut away was a great addition.
...You know, just had an after thought. When Superman returns to Metropolis-if I could remove Lester's opening titles from 3,start 2 with the bank robbery and saving man in car...superman flies off then cut to Donner's DP opening.

Ya know, I showed my mother my fan cut earlier today and I was telling her how if I had REAL editing skills, I would go above and beyond the stuff Selutron did. I would even rotoscope stills and promo shots of Reeve in the suit, flying, and put them in different backgrounds and do like a red "blur" effect for him flying past the camera fast.
And as for the footage of him flying in parts 3 and 4? All of it would be up for grabs. Just like how Sel used that shot from part 3 of Supes hitting the wall and falling (after the missile explodes), and just like how you mentioned the bank robbery opening from part 3, ALL the footage would be put to good use.
But alas, I have not the time, patience, or skill for this sort of thing. I will say this though, CAM has done some really great video editing in his cut. I used a few shots for mine. There were a few things he did that while I liked, I didn't want to put in my cut for my own reasons.
For example, using footage from the "making of" docs, he made a GREAT end-cap to Sel's "Superman returns to Metropolis" clip. After Clark leaves the alley, he uses the scene where the cabbie hits Clark and Clark walks away. After the cabbie says "Freak" you see the shot of Clark turning around, as if looking at the cabbie in response to what he said. However, I didn't use it because Clark's tie changes color, and my cut still has quiet a few continuity errors as is. Though it'll never be free of that, since Reeve and Kidder look so different in Lester's footage compared to Donner's.
One thing I would DEFINITELY do is get as much of the RIC footage in there as possible. Starting with the added dialogue between Lex and Supes in the FOS. Then the added dialogue between Lois and Supes after he destroys the FOS. I'd also make use of the RIC shot of the 2 of them landing before he blows it up. WHen they land and turn around, the DC uses a camera angle where they are all the way on the left of the frame, and far in the background, whereas the RIC has a medium shot, with them in the center of the frame.
So yeah, even though I'm more or less happy with what I've done, it'll never be "finished" in my mind. There's so many other things that could be done with a little editing skill (and patience). The metro battle could be so much more epic. Just one example. When Supes spins Zod around and throws him into the coca-cola sign. Why is Superman spinning at the same speed as a normal person? He should be spinning so fast that there's a huge wind updraft (maybe even a small tornado), and him and Zod should just be a red and black blur. Then when Supes lets him go, Zod should go flying into the coke sign so fast that instead of crashing into it, he crashes THROUGH IT.
Oh, and I'd probably hire the guy who made this to make me brand new scenes as well. heck, just watching this makes me wonder if maybe a full CGI version of Superman 2 would be the best way to go.

Yea,I see what you mean. It'll never be finished,I have sorted out an editing programme which I will be getting so I will be immersed in cutting SII together.
I have seen a lot of good ideas from various cuts and a few frames from making ofs that would sit nicely. But,the main things I want I have mentioned above. It's a work in progress, but it's getting there.
I Seen a trailer over at Superman1978.com of the RIC,I wish they would have put all that stuff in a deleted scene section,so annoying. All that extra footage would fill in the gaps for II perfectly, flying shots and such etc. I wish I had the concord scene on dvd(ish) quality.
