I agree completely. I never felt that STM was completely satisfying on first viewing for a movie as a perfect whole (the camp and the time reversal was a speedbump), but already was awed the first time at how many original and wonderful magical moments that Donner was able to create for a character that was umpteen years old by that time. (*And thank goodness at least part of SII has Donner's magic as well)
Exactly how I feel. One thing greatly entertaining about looking back at the history of this thread is seeing everyone (including myself) wondering, speculating, bickering over every clue as to whether or not Snyder has been able to make MOS a great movie or not.
The jury is still out, but I think we all feel it'll be enjoyable on SOME level. We all seem to agree it'll have fantastic visual moments we're already excited about and approve of, which probably makes it worth the price of admission right there.

I'm not looking for this movie to replace STM for me. STM will ALWAYS be my favorite movie, for all kinds of reasons. It is the single most important movie in my life for so many reasons. Star Wars is a close second (even though I prefer ESB as a "film"). But...MoS COULD become my favorite SUPERMAN movie. There's a distinction. STM has passed beyond the realm of just being a superhero movie for me, and exists on another plane. All I want is for MoS to be something I return to over and over (the way I have with Captain America or Dark Knight) for different reasons. GET. OUT. of. MY. HEAD!

SW and STM are very close relatives in my book, too (along with ESB- ROTJ is the SII equivalent- half of a great finish, half a disappointment) Star Wars (the original) to me is almost a 'perfect' film imo- and was robbed of the Academy Awards decades after the fact, and it's also probably side by side with STM one of the biggest 'film events' I've ever experienced in my life--- but part of it is the timing as well as the contents of the movies. Standing in line for SW and STM at the time was the social internet (no cellphones! No ipods!) - you met new friends just by standing there with nothing to do for hours but be excited about the show you were going to. (( Totally different case now, but that's a whole other discussion)) It's a pity that SW and STM for the mainstream over time has just become 'another science fiction/superhero film' to put in the netflix cue, rather than worshipped as major events that they were in their time. But--- then again, with the accessibility of dvd/streaming/etc.--- and sheer amount of new films yearly- movies don't get worshipped I think as they used to, except for the occassional forum/website that keeps the flame alive- and personally with people. That's what I really enjoy about this particular forum- most people in daily life MIGHT watch STM once in their life, and forget it quickly- but it's nice to know other people on the planet saw STM/SII and saw the same things I did with it, and how deeply it was felt. EXTREMELY corny, I know, but I think it's like Bones' line at the end of Trek II (the real one) ... "(STM)'s not dead you know, so long as we remember him." Agree with you there, too!

Goddamnit, every time I think about something to write, I get distracted by this redhead. Every time! I expect you were too busy looking at her earrings to notice her tits wobbling. The concept art pic really looks like he's standing on a train, not a spaceship - it has train-like numbers on the front.

Ok, Krypton is starting to look better and better to me. This is EXACTLY the kind of Kryptonian garb I wanted to see. It's like the 80s scifi fantasy movie that never was.

Just like how the CGI animation shots take me right out. (the SHAZAM captain marvel serials actually had a cool rig for some of the flying shots that looked better than the superman shots). look here at the end of this preview for the serial sequel (1:30) : That's a pretty damn cool flying sequence.
