Never ever seen this version. May have seen an extended TV cut, but not 3 hours long. This is something I wouldn't mind seeing in the blu-ray release, as it would be a smart move from wb to include it as a reason for people to upgrade their dvd sets.

I may check it out. The picture quality puts me off though. I remember seeing a sample of it a while back and not really feeling very enthused by it. It's sorta the type of thing I believe would probably look better on my old CRT TV than my LCD. ;D

I bought a copy of the KCOP back in 2003 before I knew about torrents and I gotta say, even though it's vhs, it looks leaps and bounds better than the torrent version. The only problem with my copy is that it's 3 hours and 6 minutes long, so there's 2 minutes missing.

Bleh, doesn't surprise me. Lots of shitty stuff on torrents. I grabbed a Star Wars preservation a while back, which was supposed to be a laserdisc rip but was in actual fact a VHS rip. I won't use them anymore.

The Torrent that does the rounds is an 1982 PAL broadcast from Australian TV. It's the full version even though its only 3 hours (PAL 4% issue). I have no idea how many generations it is from the master. I have a first generation copy and use to think the quality was great but now because I am so use to remasters and DVD 600 lines the quality of STM Extended looks crap. Def better to watch on a 14 inch CRT TV, don't try view it on a 50inch.

Anyone know when STM RIC will available? This has got my curiosity peaked. And would this be similar to the SII RIC? The SII RIC DVD's are wonderful.

Im all for torrents, man Iv downloaded pirate stuff like anyone...but...perhaps this is one reason Warner dont bother with DVD quality edits/cuts of Superman, because of the piracy issue ??

I doubt it. Look at the market out there. Studios don't put out re-edits of catalog movies without the directors (Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone, James Cameron are frequent ones) or without the producers (Spider-Man 2.1, Alien 3).
Studios can't just arbitrarily re-edit films anytime they want. There are guilds to deal with, rights issues to be sorted out. Not to mention the potential for the original directors to disown the re-edit, making it very difficult to market or sell. Donner has disowned the TV Salkind cut in the past.
Also, the fans who clamor for extended cuts is such a small subset, that it's probably not financially sound to dump money into it. A very vocal minority does not translate into a profit.
