Can you see the Burger King logo on the back wall? Haha, you sure can. I've never noticed that before either. Why would a diner be advertising a Burger King?

Didn't they have a tie in with glasses or something like that? At least it's more subtle than Popeye's in Supergirl. ;D

Yeah, I noticed that too, and was a little shocked to see such a bold statement in the background of a comic book film. (*Though I should mention- In reading the Donner bio, apparently Donner's politics have changed over time. So what he felt in during one period and set of politics during that time may or may not reflect how he feels 20-30 years later. I guess one could look at the political situation at the time the movie was made, but I, for one, am too lazy right now to do so. ) Donner's Lethal Weapon films also have political messages thrown in the art direction. Kind of mixed on the idea of sneaking in literal political ideas into fantasy films. Metaphors are great, but stuff like that - regardless of which side of the political line you're on--- I don't know if it's right to put into a fantasy. (i.e. would be like putting in actual Presidential ads for either president in a film- unless it was a historical piece or based on a true story of some sort.)

Does the UN even do anything these days?
As if Kim Jong-Il cares about "sanctions".

Lets also remember that Donner had Zod shoot up a pitcture of Nixon. WOW.

Pretty understandable. The Watergate Scandal left the Office of the Presidency a joke for the rest of the 70s. When writing the script, Ford had just left office, and his presidency was mired by pardoning Nixon.
The quip about Superman having to battle every elected official in the country was also a symptom of that.
That being said, it's nice to see that Mank/Donner went with having E.G. Marshall's president be a strong person.

Glad that the specific reference to Nixon was left on the cutting room floor. I know it's a definite consideration as to how many 'real life elements' to include into a fantasy film.
With Superman the Movie, the Donner treatment seemed to treat the character as if this were his entire life history- in a specific world that also felt a bit timeless at the same time, as Donner was trying to blend different eras of Superman --- so I'm glad that (for the most part) the STM universe felt a bit timeless. Leaving Nixon out helps.
