I've never had any real interest. I don't even know why I post here. ;D i have watched thor last night. to see Asgaard and to think that Krypton will probably look like that (it is gorgeous and all but that endless amount of cgi and i was bored already at the beginning of the movie) perhaps i am an old bone. i am losing interest too. the level of excitement and good fantasy of STM is very hard to be beaten... i am expecting a ok movie overall but not much more than that.

Saw Thor myself this morning. I thought the Asgard stuff way more interesting than the stuff on Earth, but I hear what you're saying.
I think it more depends on the choices the director makes, to make a fantasy world either superficial eye candy or one that stirs the imagination (i.e. Peter Jackson, Kirshner).
With 'Thor', I was disappointed that the director didn't put in the details to make Asgard seem more like a real place that people lived in, rather than pretty sets.
Hopefully Krypton turns out amazing, but that's all on Snyder/Nolan to deliver the goods.....

I probably prefer Batman.
However the Reeve films are the greatest superhero films out there imo.
Definitely one of the folk who cares more about the Reeve films than anything else

Do you think SR was responsible for killing our interest in Superman?
If no movies had been made since S4, perhaps we would have a greater sense of anticipation?

We haven't had a truly epic win Superman moment since the junkyard fight in 1983
SR just had too much angst from the character throughout

NOPE. The delay and no sequel and constantly wondering, 'What's going on at WB?' is/was killing it. Also, the idea of starting over again from scratch - while it's accepted now - seeing mostly the same story over again doesn't help.... plus the idea that once one or two get made, we may be subjected again to ANOTHER reboot again soonafter doesn't help, either.

NO. I loved SR, the film made me fall in love with the character all over again, it even got me reading the comics and buying the cartoons (something I never did before). But then Singer and WB ruined it.
Now, I don't want to do with anything Superman related. It just brings bad memories.

Am I the only person here whose interest in the character is solely limited to the Reeve films? I've never been impressed with any other interpretation. Due to childhood nostalgia I probably never will. Agreed! Im exactly the same.....funny how,in anything in life, you think its just must be you....but it never is!!

Haven't lost interest in Superman yet. Have enjoyed all of the films and am really looking forward to the next one.

Well, the Superman character exists in a lot more mediums than just the films. I love Superman but gave up on his comic book exploits several years ago. Just redundant storylines and lackluster creative talent. The same thing goes for the Smallville TV series. Started off great but then got annoying after a few seasons. I hardly collect any of the action figures anymore, save for the recent Mattel STM line.
My excitement about the new reboot movie is really one of reserved optimism considering I was let down after the Singer version. Not that I disliked SR, but it fell short in so many ways. And I'm not that certain the Zack Snyder version will bring Superman back to all his glory, either. So, yeah, my interest in the current incarnations of Superman has really waned.

I for one can't fucking WAIT to watch STM theatrical on blu ray. The new transfer better be astounding.

It'd be hard for ANY director to give it full glory, as if watching something fresh from the ground up. When Donner did STM, he did a fantastic job, but with the bar also being so low at the time for superhero films, it's easy to forget that's part of why it was the EVENT at the time.
Making Superman shine- in a sea of other pretty good superhero films won't be easy, but here's hoping that (if not the Snyder film) Supes again can be a film that people on the street (not just Superman forums) talk for months anticipating.

Hard to feel anything about the new film as we don't know much about it. I just hope its as least as good as Superman 2 (before we learned of all the behind-the-scenes crap)
I find it highly unlikely it'll be as disrespectful as SIII, daft as SIV and boring as SR
Hopefully it'll put the character back on the map

Agreed. I WANT the film to be earth-shaking and redefine how superheroes films get made, like STM set the tone in the first place.... but doing so will mean making something as good as or better than the Dark Knight. I hope that they do!

I have completely lost interest in S2 over recent years. It used to be my favourite one, but now it feels cheap and amateurish. And all the various cuts and edits and re-releases just add to that amateurish feeling. I NEVER thought I would say it, but I actually enjoy S3 more now. It's more polished, more consistent and just feels more like a completed movie.

Very true. I was a Superman fan from the comics BEFORE STM came out, but STM reignited my interest in the character. The comics, though, missed out on an opportunity to reboot at that time and take advantage of the great elements introduced in the film.
By the time John Byrne came around and DID bend towards (in some ways) the Donner films- things felt a bit fresher and more interesting (mainly because there was a mandate at the time to have Byrne be more/less solely in control of all the major Superman titles, not committee as it is now).
But, now, with Superman's lack of a continued consistent movie presence..... and uncertainty about what kind of creative control will or won't be in place after this one film comes out---- hard to get too excited.
If tommorrow it was announced that James Cameron or Peter Jackson was going to be in charge the next six Superman films that would be coming out alternating years, with the same cast/etc.--- and cover all the great stuff in the comics- wouldn't that make one more excited about the movie series and the character?
If the next movie turns out to be fantastic, and WB doesn't greenlight a sequel for five years down the line, I think my own interest would begin to wane again, too.

I won't really know what to do with myself, as a fan of Superman, if the next movie fails horribly. Actually, I dread to even comprehend that type of disappointment.

Morbid curiosity makes me wonder if the movie grosses $391 million worldwide will be considered a 'flop' like SR was. Would love to know what the magic number needs to be for them to greenlight a sequel asap.

Could be...... I think the SR sequel mess w/WB & Singer- and the Spiderman 4 mess w/Sony & Raimi might not be too dissimiliar.
The forces more powerful than box office= ego and office politics.
Hopefully the Xmen films (though ruined quite a bit at this point as Cyclops in the comics was always the lead for decades, not Wolverine) from Singer's production hereon out will make up for the loss of SR 2.... *sigh*
