what I am not understanding is the difference between character models shown earlier in the week and what we seem to be getting. For instance the superboy model is completely different from what DC showed just a couple of days ago.

It's just a boring design. The boots look too clunky in regard to the rest of the suit, the seams look exaggerated, the collar is...just there, the belt is kinda gross, and the fact that it's all red just kind of reinforces the awkwardness of it.

It's definitely movie related, then!

I don't like the belt and boots. They look like something Batman would wear.

Here's the thing...
It's not an abomination. I bet the live-action version will look pretty neat. It's recognizably Superman. It just looks awkward in that picture. And if GEORGE FUCKING PEREZ can't make it look good, then it's probably not a good design.

indeed, the trunks were goners, i think we all knew this. and yes, the movie will ..sort of .... look like this model. it isn't terrible, it's just....NEEDLESS. the boots are stupid. the belt is ..meh. at least the color scheme is right, and the "S" is good. i agree with val, supergirl looks good. i liked when they copped the S:TAS supergirl costume, but this is nice. superman is NOT improved, just arbitrarily different. he looks better than superboy, thats for damn sure. i'll flip through the first few issues, but i am a hard-sell.

If Grant Morrison is writing Action, then I'm buying it. Full stop. Without reservation. I don't care what the suit looks like. And if I'm buying one of the two, I'll at least give the other a shot. It's George Perez, not some hack, so it's worth a look.

I like the new costume. It's still instantly recognizable, and most of the changes are small and evolutionary. The boots look a bit odd, and the red belt is the least inventive solution to the underwear-on-the-outside conundrum imaginable. I like it overall, though.
Frankly, the trunks needed to go. In live action, at least. Even with Reeve in the costume, the idea of underwear on the outside of the suit is ridiculous. I'm not saying he looked ridiculous; just that the basic idea is completely weird when you think about it for more than 3 seconds. Who would ever willingly dress that way? I know it serves a design purpose by breaking up all the blue, but it's still odd.

Supes' new look reminded me of the comics storyline 'Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite' where, while powerless, he wore a robotic-like suit. That storyline ended in Clark proposing to Lois
That suit's a mistake. He should never look like he's gone thru some prep-time to get it all done. He himself is already powerful. The suit's just to cover up his body, nothing more & need not be elaborate
Bats on the other hand, is justified having a suit that elaborate since he's no powers of his own.
I'll betcha they'll revert to his classic look in no time

i give up. whatever... WB, please learn, just do this: That to me is the best compromise. It loses the trunks without really losing the trunks lol. For me personally, this design is near perfect. The design modernizes Superman while still retaining the aspects will love and recognise him for. If this design was used in the new movie I wouldn't complain.

I love this design. I would accept it 100% as the official Supes design for the next 20 years or whatever.

I'm open to some tweaks of the suit, but that's just a piss poor design. I'd gladly take this, just without the KC shield.

I actually think the new suit looks dull. Like some 1990s fan cheap artwork.
I'm not opposed to changes, but that looks like shit. Sorry.
As for the desire for a new take other than Reeve, well, we've already seen L&C and Smallville, which are very different takes, and I found them very entertaining. I actually found Dean Cain's Clark a refreshing change of pace.
I just wish someone was able to resurrect the Donnerverse with the same success. For me, it's frustrating because they came close to doing it, but instead just placed it back in its coffin because the movie was boring.

I agree with most of this statement. I didn't find it boring, but the action coulda/shoulda been more. With everything said & speculated on for the who/whats/whys--- Singer seems like he did almost have a chance to do a slightly cheaper sequel (*according to the head of WB in that one interview), but whether it was bad timing because of a combo of "Valkyrie" running over, WB getting cold feet, or WB not liking where Singer wanted to go next, who knows?
In the end the main thing is: we came SOOOO close to having Donnerverse survive and expand. *sigh* o well.
New costume w/o trunks? Pfah. 70's Reeve suit was the best adaptation imo.
Audiences should adapt to the big blue boy scout's original look imo. Not the other way around.

ok, i love you guys, and this is NOT directed AT anyone in particular here.
but i am SICK to my death of the "underwear on the outside" complaint.
IT. ISN'T. "UNDERWEAR". ON THE OUT-SIDE.
they are TRUNKS. with a belt. it is there for modesty. clothes that cling to skin tight enough to show off muscle- will also show genitalia. this will not do.
even captain america and mr. fantastic wore trunks over the trousers. (same color as trousers).
the more i look at this the more i hate it. i'm looking and i just can't believe this is happening. the fan-art is considerably better.

Yeah, well, the trunks look like underwear. Sorry. ;D
There are plenty of trunkless clingy costumes that don't have batches poking out. Spider-Man, F4, etc. Just make the crotch material a bit thicker, maybe add a pra, and you're good to go. The trunks are too pro wrestlerish; I think the costume should look a little more regal than that in live action. That's also why I don't mind a higher collar.

Well, DC was supposed to make official announcements about the Superman books today, and they haven't. This leads me to three conclusions...
1) They WILL make these announcements at Hero Complex tomorrow, as originally intended.
2) We're probably looking at a fairly serious reboot of Superman. The changes will be more than cosmetic.
3) I haven't ruled out the possibility of some kind of movie related announcement, possibly involving Cavill's suit.
