Reeve is my favourite. Its so simple, and the colours are perfect. IMO its the template others follow.
Routh's red is too dark, the shield unnecessarily 3D, and trunks too small

I think the suit Gerard Christopher wore on Superboy was the best live-action suit we've seen. Just slightly modified from the Reeve versions.

They include a single artificial shot from Smallville and a photoshopped picture of Nic Cage, but ignore the entire Superboy TV show? What a load of crap.

1. Reeve
2. Cavill (The more I look at it, the more I like it)
3. Routh
I would add Gerard in there as an honorable mention.

While I definitely like the Cavill version, I can't really judge it until I see more shots of it and see it in motion.

The Superboy costumes were the Reeve costume except the \S/ logo is the standard Superman logo. Lookin at that article posted, the Welling \S/ logo looks way different from the Returns logo.. looks like a crossbreed of Reeve and Routh logo. I actually really like it. Still my favorite costume is Reeve. I like Routh's costume, but it could have been a lot better. So far I like Cavill's suit, but i need to see more pics of it and I need to see the costume in action before I can really say for sure. I did this up in photoshop.. based of how I see it, looks like the full logo for Cavill's costume is going to look something like this.

They used the SR logo (and SR suit) mostly, but yeah they played with the shape ever since they introduced the S shield in the show. I like Reeve's suit but I think it's too simple to today's audience, honestly. Not a big fan of the hooker boots, lol. That's why I prefer the SR suit because it has a more interesting texture. I also love the 3D S shield, it's very cool, imo. And the red (in real life like in that pic they used) is actually a nice shade: not too bright or too dark (like in some scenes during the movie). To me Superman in SR looked like royalty. And I'm glad he had trunks. Superman WEARS trunks. Period. His suit is iconic. The Cavill suit is like the SR on steroids (at least so far). Too much texture (looks like a snake, ew) and the blue is too dark and plastiky to my tastes.

I like Reeve's suit but I think it's too simple to today's audience, honestly. Well, "today's audience" comprises the retards who watch reality shows and are busy rioting in the streets, so I don't really care what they want.

Reeve's got the best costume, imo... everything well proportioned, took the best versions from the comic over the years imo.
SR mimicked it, but I didn't care for the changes. The 3d 'S' has grown on me, but it's too small*.
Although the rest of it is questionable, from the one image we got of Cavill, I DO like the 'ruffles' with the cape to give a more of a sense of royalty with how the cape hangs off the shoulders and how it seems to hang in front.
If I was given a choice on updating the suit from all of them, I'd start off with the Reeve/Donner costume, maybe put in the 3d 'S' - but it'd have to be the same size as Reeve's 'S'- and put in the ruffles of the Cavill version.
((*The alterations made to the Superman costume wasn't a dealbreaker for me to enjoy SR, but if there was an extended cut that made the costume closer to Reeve's, I wouldn't be opposed to it.....))

I like Routh's & Reeve's about the same.
Routh's has the best Blue, but the Red is too Dark.
Reeve has the best Red, but the Blue is too light.
I love the Pattern on Routh's costume.
I like the small trunks on Routh's.
I like the \S/ on Routh's belt. It's a rarity from the comics. I also like how his belt has a slight V to it to give it a bit of sex appeal.
I also like the \S/ on Reeve's cape. But I can take it or leave it.
I like how Reeve's cape looks at the neck, but his cape is a tad short for me, so, I like the length & flow of Routh's better.
I personally love Routh's boots. I love the height, the texture & the cut of them. They evoke the very early Superman Boots.
While I like Reeve's boots, they are a bit on the high side for me. But the color & sheen is really great.
I like the collar on Reeve's better, but I think the high neckline on Brandon's suit suited his body.
Reeve's has the best material for the tights. It REALLY shows off muscle tone well, while the material on Routh's tights totally hid just how well built he really is. The guy was a MONSTER underneath those tights, but, they hid his muscle mass, unfortunately.
Routh's \S/ is my favorite version of the \S/ EVER. Bar none.
Reeve's \S/ is just a slightly imperfect version of the generic \S/, which is fine.
So, I suppose its a tie between Reeve & Routh for me. Never really cared one way or the other for any of the other live incarnations.

that Cavill logo certainly has a more alien Kryptonian-family-crest feel to it, rather than a stylized look of what is known on Earth as the letter 'S'
it should make sense that it shouldn't look like the letter 'S' if the logo isn't designed by Ma Kent but of Kryptonian origin

Cheers Krypton Refugee
I hate the stupid shoulder padding on Routh; its what Batman would do. That alone relegates that costume to 2nd level (along with Dean Cain who I can't help LOL at the boots)
SuperBoy and Reeve's costume look less gimmicky. I think they put too much effort into Routh's. Colour's on Reeve are perfect to me; I was most impressed when I saw the films on DVD for the first time, they were so vibrant.
We never really get to see the proper colours of Routh thanks to the shit photography

I know there have been comments about people not liking Henry Cavill's Superman outfit and comparing it to Christopher Reeve's one, but I hated Dean Cain's Superman. I thought Brandon Routh's was fine for what it was, but the Dean Cain Superman all I had was a whole 'shopping list' of complaints. Does anyone here like 'Lois and Clark' or is it just me who dislikes it. I feel even the worst episode of Smallville was much better than Lois and Clark at it's best.

I remember loving the first season of L&C, but I was turned off when they replaced Jimmy in season 2 despite some good episodes.

I know there are others who hate L&C, that's fine, but to me-
There are gold nuggets in both series imo- when it hit the right notes, both were original and still Superman at the same time--- (L&C owes a giant debt to Donner's Superman in more ways than one- although the showrunner/developer never acknowledges it in her commentary, nor the Byrne comics)...
Smallville's sins are that over the seasons, they seem to constantly constrain themselves to tired romantic triangles and storylines that don't really payoff. In looking at other (better done) fantasy tv shows, they push the limits in writing and character arcs payoff.
Both shows would have been far better as long miniseries, I think- too much fat on both. Both also had some great ideas and great episodes here and there.... but the quality wasn't consisently high on either.

First season of Lois and Clark was quite good. It just got worse as it got on to the point of being unwatchable
I think they fired the show's creator after the first season (Deborah Joy...?) and it never recovered.
SR defenders "prefer" it; not biased at all of course. Reeve never looked like he was choking, or wore ridicuously fake shoulder pads that even Lacey Warfield would have turned down. Alyn and Reeves looked much more comfortable in their costumes.

you would have to be bat shit crazy to prefer the Routh costume to Reeve's. well, I feel the same way about those who think the SR suit sucked. I never felt the SR suit tried to mimick the Reeve one, at all. It feels like a brand new classic/Superman suit to me. Even Perry asked that. MAV, I agree on the SR trunks. It's sexy.

So, if a SR defender just truly prefers it, it's biased.
But if a STM fan prefers it, it's ok.
Got it.
I honestly never notice them. I think Brandon looks great in it, except for the material constraining his muscle mass.
I think the SR haters, even the ones who don't really even hate it, just like focusing on & picking hard at things when they are arguing with people that they don't like, or it just baffles them for some reason that some people just truly love the movie. So, they feel this sad need to put it down & constantly, even if they don't hate it. It just bothers them when certain people love it.
Oh well.

Not a fan of the \S/ belt buckle or the boots (there's too much going on), but I really like Routh's suit. Texture looks great in HD.
But, his suit only really looks good when the movie decides to show it off brightly. Aside from him entering the crashed plane, I don't remember many eye-popping shots of it. The rest of the time, it's night, dark and cloudy, or through that horrible brown color filter.
