You really didn't care for the more recent issues?
Maybe it's because I'm also reading the likes of Detective, Superman, and Hawkman that JL doesn't seem so bad, haha.

I thoroughly enjoyed the way the current story started off, before it devolved into "Wonder Woman throws a tantrum and fights everybody" and then the climax was another video game boss fight.
It's awful.
And Jim Lee's artwork is completely incomprehensible. I can't tell what's going on half the time.

I'll give you that on Jim Lee. I don't dislike him as much as you do apparently, haha, but people act like he's the next Jack Kirby or something and I just don't see the overwhelming appeal.
But Ivan Reis will be taking over JL when he leaves to at least there's that.

It's because people mistakenly equate "lots of detail" with "good artwork."
Jim Lee draws incredibly detailed, but incredibly static figures. There is NOTHING dynamic about any of the art he's done in Justice League. It's people posing (and grimacing) on a page. And there's so much superfluous detail that it's hard to follow the action.
Good comic art gives you a sense of motion. Jim Lee just gives you billboard after billboard. He's certainly not a hack, but he's easily the most overrated man in comics.
But Geoff Johns (a writer I usually love) is just as guilty. I don't know who he's writing this Justice League for.
