Was watching the final season of Chuck, only to see Brandon Routh appear again as a villain- and couldn't help but think 'Superman' while he was there.
But....with the new JLA movie coming up (at least so far unless it gets the plug pulled), was thinking: "How many people actually look like comic book superheroes in Hollywood? If not Superman, why NOT Capt. Marvel?"
Thoughts? Too ridiculous an idea or would you be for it?

If not Superman, why NOT Capt. Marvel?" ...Because he's a pretty bad actor, to start.

Well, you've answered your question right there.

Routh was decent in SR for the same reason Keanu was decent in Matrix. They kept his dialogue down.

I tried watching the comedy he did on CBS, but he's not a great thespian. Of course, the show wasn't remotely funny and was cancelled before Thanksgiving. Not "Paul Reiser Show" fast, but not even half a season.

Personally, it would depend on who the other candidates were... but given Routh's ridiculous looks and presence- he LOOKS like a boy scout, I think he'd be a good alternative, if there no one else that I thought was better for it.
Given how WB treated him, though, it's unlikely that either party would want to get together ever again.....

No, the more I watch SR, the more glad I am he isn't Superman anymore. The guy really can't act well.

Routh was only cast because of his resemblance to Reeve and it shows.

He'd be my choice for Superman in a "Dark Knight Returns" film opposite Michael Keaton, once again fufilling his role as a Reeve replacement.
Also if they were going to make a JL film franchise seperate from the solo films (a bad idea, but a possibility nonetheless), I'd take him as Superman there as well. Better to have SOME already established characters in that scenario than none.
But as Captain Marvel? No.

I thought that he was fine for most of the movie, though I also agree that I was shaken more by how amazing it was that Singer found someone that sounded and looked like Reeve.
The comparison to Keanu may or may not be fair. Keanu's shown that he's good in certain roles, but out of his league in others. (Same with William Shatner, actually).
Jessica Lange had little experience when she was put in the public's eye with King Kong back in the day, was thrashed by critics and her acting was the butt of jokes... then went back to study, and later on won the academy award.
So, it seems pretty quick to write off Routh so quickly.
If he's written off WB's list for Superman for good, I think playing Captain Marvel (who had a certain degree of resemblance to Superman in the comics anyways) may not be a bad choice. I'm probably the only one, but given how Captain Marvel (if they end up portraying him the way I think the comics are- as someone who's at the core a rather innocent 15 year old kid in an adult form)'s character is, I think the character and Routh's range might be a good marriage at this point.
If Hollywood doesn't use Routh for a superhero character, personally, I think it'd be a waste. (I think he's far more suited as a superhero character for film than Ryan Reynolds, who for some reason gets every other comic character thrown at him.)

WARNER/premiere SHOULD cast him as voice actor for the superman/brainiac animated film as that was part of geoff johns neo-silver/donnerverse and SR was donnerverse.
that they almost certainly aren't is about the only thing mitigating my joy that that story is getting the animated treatment.

Given how WB treated him, though, it's unlikely that either party would want to get together ever again..... Plucked from obscurity and paid a MILLION dollars to play Superman in a film that at least was respectful to the original I wish WB would treat me so bad ;D

A million? Reeve got 250,000 for the first one, then I know he was able to renegotiate for SII when it didn't get finished all at one time.
I'm not doubting you, but just curious: where did you get this info? Would love to read (if the source offered it) what everyone else got on the film, too.
