OK, I know it is EXTREMELY early days and we have only heard a small bit of Zimmer's music so far in the trailer.
But despite that, which one do you like better? And why?
I used to be of the opinion that the Williams music could NEVER be replaced. But now I'm not that certain.

If I still love this new music 100% in 30 years I'll let you know!

I'm with ye5man.
I was driving with the family in the car yesterday listening to the radio...and what should they play? Only Williams Superman concert arrangement. My son knew it instantly and wanted it turned up.
We have a lot to hear from Zimmer at this point. For all we know the trailer didn't even feature his Superman motif, but if that was it...will it become something that will cross generations? Something that is instantly recognisable and associate-able? Well, no...I don't see it.

ye4man is right - this is something that can only be truly be judged in hindsight. It's a good sign that we're even having this discussion.
we've heard a few notes in a trailer -- but let's wait for the film before going any further. keep in mind, zimmer has 2013 working against him -- and 2013 does not celebrate bombastic scores as a focal point of the movie.

The one thing I took away from the trailer music is its definitely something you can work out to!

I came across this a few minutes ago.. Someone did a piano arraignment of the music from Trailer #3. Sounds really good.
I can only hope that it's as good as Williams music. I know Hans is a great composer and can come up with some good stuff. As long as it's good and hopefully there's a new iconic theme that I can hum & play in my head, that's all I ask for.
I don't think anyone could surpass Williams theme for such an iconic character. Especially since everyone now automatically associates the Williams theme with the character and not just the Reeve Superman.

Couldn't say. But yeah the only way to tell will be if years down the line I'm still listening to the Zimmer soundtrack as I do the Williams soundtrack.
I don't think signature themes are nearly as big as they were in the 70's and 80's though, so I don't ever see it being iconic in the way Williams score is.

Williams hasn't written a note for Superman in over 25 years and yet, children today can still tell you where it's from. That's a pretty high bar to reach.

i actually just watched hannibal with music by hans zimmer thought it was really good
but yeah john williams is a such a class act with everything he has done so many memorable themes from massive movies
always going to be a challenge who ever followed him hence why i think ottman with the SR soundtrack used a lot of themes but tried to put his own spin on them "reprise" is still one of favourites themes ever

Zimmer's already basically said he was terrified of the thought of being the first person to do an original score for a Superman film since Williams.
Let's be honest, NO-ONE wants to actually 'compete' with Williams

I'm sure Zimmer's score will be good, may even have to give a few chances. I remember I didn't like his Bat theme at first but now I love it.

A little early to make that call. I'm VERY pleased with the music from the trailer, though.

All I know is John Williams' theme gets my 10-month old shaking her booty and fist pumping. Let's see if Zimmer can match that.
Let's be realistic - we're just hoping for a score that is respectable. This isn't the 70s or 80s anymore.

Music clips on Amazon.com. I like it a lot. They are different sounds. Zimmer's gone for ambiance, seems to suit the film.
Williams's music is grandiose and suits a larger than life movie.

Ambiance is a good way to put it. Listened to 'ideal hope'... it's... nice I guess, but it sounds very generic. Maybe that's the 'ambiance' part of it? I dunno - maybe my ears aren't picking up the right notes either.

Please. The score could manifest itself into human form, fellate you, and you'd still be all, "Meh, it wasn't John Williams."

You'll never get a score that's as bold as Williams', that jumps out at you the way his does.
Times have changed, someone else said it perfectly, STM was larger than life film and it got the larger than life score to match.
This won't be. Anyways, I fucking love Zimmer's themes from the trailer, I'll be playing them all summer. The fact that it was stuck in my head for days upon the release of the 3 minute trailer speaks volumes.

Yeah, I gotta be honest, it hasn't fully left my head since that trailer came out. It fits. It works. It works so very well.

I don't know... Zimmer's music in many situations have jumped out at me the first time I'd heard them/seen them attached to a number of films. (Lion King/ the Rock/ Thin Red Line/ Rain Man just off the top of my head)... which is why I was thrilled to hear that Zimmer was the successor if it wasn't going to be Williams (Would have loved for them to have given Williams the challenge of creating a NEW different original score for Supes- he might not have wanted to - but at least offer it to the maestro)....
Anyhow- at this point, I guess it's a real wait and see what the final film and music attached to it will be like when it comes out...

My two ideal choices were Zimmer and Giacchino.

I'm being honest. This sounds like something I could listen to on that Soundscapes channel in the Time Warner Cable music lineup. It sounds interesting, but I can't immediately think of any signature notes that I can hum to. Put it this way, I'm willing to bet if this was the score attached to Star Trek or Iron Man 3 or any other film that you guys wouldn't be jumping all over it and playing it to the gym. I just think part of the overall satisfaction is being inflated for some of you because it's attached to Man of Steel. There's nothing wrong with that. And I think the other part is there is a certain desperation for some original MoS music that is not crap. The music is being curved in your heads, so to speak because of the context. Like yeoman said, let's come back to this in 5 years and see what legacy this score has.

Nah, I feel like we'd all be very honest about being disappointed with it if that's how we felt. But you have to be all Frosted MiniNuts about it...

Mine was Zimmer and Vangelis.... though after listening to MOS's sample track, I have a hunch it may take a few listenings for it to grow on me. It doesn't suck, but..... right now it's not in my top five Zimmer compositions. Again, it might take seeing it in the film...
That's interesting about Giacchino....
I know I'm totally in the minority over Giacchino--- many people seem to adore his work, but except for his John Carter stuff, I'm a bit underwhelmed by his music scores.
But, at this point, I probably will be silent on the music now until the movie comes out. I could totally change my mind once I see the visuals it's attached to.
