JESUS, you see the size of Routh's thigh muscles? He's a BEAST. Which is why he doesn't really look his age. Brandon looks more matured in the face, and now that he has got even bigger, he looks probably the best possible Superman ever. He looks to me like he is bigger than Reeve was in Superman III. Why WB don't see the potential in Brandon, I really don't know. ^^That's the saddest thing about the Superman situation right now; It will be a big shame if Brandon doesn't do more Superman movies, especially now that he looks a lot better for the role and has more acting experience as well. It took about 20 years to find a capable man to do the role justice (for the big screen), and when they found him they don't do more Superman movies. What a waste of talent. here here !! been watching some trek flicks , and it has been pointed out that the space between ST:TMP and ST:II could be charcaterised as a reboot. by that i mean , a change in tone to more action and a cosmetic makeover but with the same cast and crew. they both are in the same series, both are continuity, but you could ignore STTMP and the 2-6 would still work just fine. as opposed to ang lee's hulk and the more recent hulk. those are clearly not connected at all- - my point is, even if " reboot " means : " ignore superman returns" there is still no reason to replace routh. there wouldnt be any great deal of confusion on the part of the average moviegoer. it doesnt have to continue the story of singer/donnerverse , but it doesn thave to supercede it either. if the excuse is " we want a new superman so fans arent confused " - THAT would be BULLSH*T.

I actually liked the way Ross did it, but it really doesn't resemble Welling at all. I do agreee with you, Welling is too purty. Reeve and Routh looked like men, not like fratboys. ;D

Well don't get me wrong, Welling does suit what he does, but I think the Smallville universe and his interpretation of young Clark/Superboy is where he fits best.

Look up in the sky, Chuck!: The guest stars continue to impress me. I know a lot of people hated Superman Returns, if for no other reason than the lack of ‘splosions and stuff. However, one of the better things about the movie was the casting of Brandon Routh who did a heck of a lot more than just imitate Reeve. Routh continued to impress me in his small role in the Kevin Smith movie Zach and Miri Make a Porno (screw you Wal Mart!). Routh's next appearance will be in a multi-episode arc as a mysterious spy in the fantastic NBC series Chuck. This is awesome news and I am getting more and more excited about upcoming television with each passing news story. www.411mania.com/movies/columns/114970/Movies-TV%5C%5Cs-3Rs-09.01.09:-Marvel,-Terry-Gilliam,-Dollhouse,-Chuck,-Chris-Brown,-More...-.htm You need to scroll down half way the page.

This is what I mean, Brandon is the part, he IS Superman. Outside of the movies, just as a guy, he has the right personality for it. How WB cannot see this, I really do not understand. To me, there is no one better than Brandon to be Supes.

He even sits like Superman, Another related article, Service News Roundup Posted on Sep 09, 2009 Well, of course we have to start with some coverage of the service event jointly organized in Cedar Rapids, Iowa last Thursday by ServiceNation, Voices For National Service, and America Forward. The purpose of the event was to honor all the service done by volunteers who have been helping communities rebuild since the great floods of 2008, as well as Senator Tom Harkin, who was a determined and inspired leader on the Hill this summer with regard to funding the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Star of the show (besides Sen. Harkin) was Iowa native and ServiceNation stalwart, Brandon Routh (otherwise known as Superman). www.servicenation.org/blog/entry/service-news-roundup-non-monday-random-edition/

The sequel to SR isn't being made, because SR was crap. Not Brandon.
Even though the film sucked (and flopped) I never had a problem with Brandon. He did the best he could with the lame material, and now he would probably even do better. He certainly looks even better now.
The problem wasn't with him. It was with the retarded script, crap editing, depressing tone, too much cartoonish special effects and more.

DAMN, Routh does look awesome in those pictures.
Look at that kid in that one picture, you can SEE in his eyes he's thinking, "Oh my God, it's Superman."

Happy birthday, Brandon! I promise you I'll watch Superman Returns soon. Thirty years young, eh? This makes the stalling on a new film even more tragic, because he could easily play Supes onscreen for the next decade. There's another two or three films to be made there, if only the WB execs can get themselves in gear and do something about it. By the way, gazer, I'm sure there's no probs with starting a dedicated birthday thread for Brandon if you want. Chris has one, and I'm sure nobody would mind.

Happy Birthday Mr Routh!! Keep those movies coming because even if WB are lame enough not to use you for a Supes movie, I'm sure other people will see potential in you. Most of us here do. Meanwhile, we'll do our best to keep nagging WB to get you back for a Superman movie. GO GO GADGET PETITION!

Happy birthday, Brandon! I promise you I'll watch Superman Returns soon. Please watch it ASAP so that you'll know it's crap instead of just taking our word for it.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes here but I'm actually a bit surprised to hear so many people liked him in the role. To me, he and Bosworth were a big part of the reason the movie fell short. Of course the script was the main culprit but I truly felt that Brandon didn't bring much to the role at all. His acting felt flat and unemotional. He never really took over the role and became the character. I think he completely failed to establish himself as Superman. He actually nailed the Clark Kent role (at least if we describe Clark Kent as the Christopher Reeves goofy version). He just didn't pull off the strong, assertive Superman role.

^^It still surprises me till this day that there are some people out there who didn't like Brandon in the role since I think he was great in it as both Supes and Clark. But I've found out that the vast majority of those people are Welling fanboys.. so I guess I kinda understand their disappointment.
Welcome to the board

^^ Thanks for the welcome. I'm actually not a big fan of Welling either (though I'd give him the edge over Routh). I think I might give SR another screening now that I've seen that so many people liked Routh. I honestly just felt that he fell flat. He didn't bring much to the role at all.
I guess he would do well in a Superman look-alike contest but his acting leaves a lot to be desired.

Welling is just urgh. Words fail me. Indeed, starting from his acting. He was a very bad and wooden actor when the show started almost a decade ago. And he hasn't improved much. The other actors like Allison M. and Michael R. practically carried him all this time. Now it seems that it is Durance (who has improved a lot on her acting lately) who carries him. To me there is no way in heck that Welling could have an edge on Brandon in any way. Especially not in the role of Supes/Clark. Brandon clealy is a better actor, has the right look (which Welling doesn't), has the Superman voice, and likes playing the role and wearing the tights. What more could we ask for? But I guess we all have our opinions, right?

But Smallville is going on a 10th season while Brandon's Superman is done. Sometimes the world isn't fair, or is it? Brandon played the actual Superman role on the big screen and the film made practically $400 mil ww. It was technically a blockbuster and got very good reviews. There is no Superman in Smallville. Just a Blur. It's a tweeny show with super powers. Besides, noone cares about the show anymore, save a few fans. I mean, they are even getting into actual Superman mythology and the ratings are still poor! That's just so sad! We ALL know that if the show (as it is) was in one of the big networks, it would have been cancelled LONG ago. The CW needs it, and Supernatural, to survive. i74.photobucket.com/albums/i267/IronGiant29/Smallville.jpgIt has the lowest number of viewers in its time 8pm time slot, getting beat by repeats of House. It has the lowest rating on Fridays in any time slot for an original episode, only America's Next Top Model repeats are lower. Whatever the CW execs say about its 'great ratings' it just spin plain and simple. But the fact is that Smallville is a corpse of a show.
