Welling is just urgh. Words fail me. Indeed, starting from his acting. He was a very bad and wooden actor when the show started almost a decade ago. And he hasn't improved much. The other actors like Allison M. and Michael R. practically carried him all this time. Now it seems that it is Durance (who has improved a lot on her acting lately) who carries him. To me there is no way in heck that Welling could have an edge on Brandon in any way. Especially not in the role of Supes/Clark. Brandon clealy is a better actor, has the right look (which Welling doesn't), has the Superman voice, and likes playing the role and wearing the tights. What more could we ask for? But I guess we all have our opinions, right? I completely agree about Welling's acting (though I do think that he has improved since the show started). He's just very limited in terms of his range as an actor. I'd say Brandond falls into the same category though. Watching Superman Returns, it seems almost as if he's doing a Christopher Reeves impersonation for 2 hours. There's no originality there at all. That's what I mean when I say he didn't bring much to the role. At least Welling's character isn't a knock off of an earlier version.

I think very few of the Superman actors have had the acting experience/training that Reeve had when Reeve put on the suit. (Perhaps Reeves and Alyn did, though I'd have to look it up)
Reeve had a ton of theatre training and said in one of those video interviews that in some ways the role of Superman was a walk in the park for him, given that there wasn't much he could draw from in researching for the character in the comic books up to that point.
There are some actors that are fantastic without the training; but having actors go back to school who haven't had training has never seemed to hurt them--- Jessica Lange in King Kong didn't have any, got rotten reviews, then went back to acting classes--- then eventually ended up with an Academy Award.
Routh I think is the only option for Superman, and I was fine with his performance but often I'd think that (in looking at interviews) his Clark Kent was stronger than his take on Superman for me.
Again, the only choice imo, but if he hasn't (from what we can tell on the net) had a lot of training--- more theatre training never hurts ANY actor. heck, even with Reeve's experience, Reeve went back to the stage after doing the first STM..... never hurts to get more acting lessons. Never hurts.

Reeves was a very accomplished actor and did a lot of stage work. better to hire an actor than an athlete.

Supernanny has almost double the viewers of Smallville. ;D ;D so are her adventures more exciting or what? I dunno, never seen that show. Indeed, starting from his acting. That's what I mean when I say he didn't bring much to the role. At least Welling's character isn't a knock off of an earlier version. Ah, well I completely disagree with that. To me Brandon can emote emotion. Welling not so much. He really has no range. If you pay attention, Welling ALWAYS makes the same facial expressions (he moves his eyebrow and mouth). I mean, ALWAYS. Such a boring actor to watch. And sure he is not bad looking, but he is just not my type, I guess. And I think Brandon brought a new perspective to The Man of Steel with the theme of isolation in the film, brought more majesty to the role, more vulnerability, a gentleness I had never seen before on this character, so much sincerity, a touch of melancholy, has the presence, and he was just more serious. Save a couple of scenes where he repeats a similar dialogue from the Reeve films, he was his own Superman to me to the point that I don't even miss or compare him with Reeve's version. He was also impossing and commanding when he needed to be like when he goes inside the plane to see if everyone was alright and when he faces Lex in NK. And his Clark is the Best ever, imo. Not as goofy or over the top as Reeve's. Just mildmannered and a little nerdy. Just perfect. Welling's take is what, of an emo and bland Clark!

Routh's likability and sincerity carried him a long way, but it's not to argue that he was essentially cloning Reeve. They found the guy who looked most like him and he did a pretty good impersonation of him (especially as CK). A lot of reviewers say he was like Reeve's younger Brother. I suppose as I am a SR basher a lot of people will automatically disagree.
I'm all in favour of a brand new interpretation of the character next time. We had the love letter to STM and not everyone went for it. Next time, a fresh start (but no back story)

ye5man said, A lot of reviewers say he was like Reeve's younger Brother. And some of those same reviewers also acknowledged that he made the role his own, while at the same time honoring what came before, especially Reeve's iconic take on the character. I'm all in favour of a brand new interpretation of the character next time. I see, but HOW different can Superman be portrayed and still be faithful to the true character?? I mean, Superman is Superman, no? For instance, I see a lot of similarities between George Reeves and Chris' takes on the character (Superman not Clark); both were very charming, cool, smiled a lot. The difference is that George was older and more like a father figure while Chris was younger and more of a romantic charmer. He was also much more fleshed out than George's take, which was more light and child-oriented. But when you get down to it, they weren't THAT different. Just enough. I feel the same way about Brandon's take. The only thing is that he was made to repeat some of the same dialogue from STM, and SR was Donnerverse-based. Or do you want a Superman ala Chuck Norris or Jacky Chan?

I'm not sure why you want me to be personally offended by that. Oh well.
anyway, back to topic
Gazer hasn't seem the B/W eps I take it. Or maybe he's not good looking enough for her.
Nobody is blaming Routh for the crap he was given to work with. As I said, his likability came through a lot which helped significantly
Are you really the forum admin or some baby? No wait, don't answer that

I'm not sure why you want me to be personally offended by that. Oh well. Because you are rude to stargazer & constantly pick on her & suggest that she only likes SR because she thinks Routh is cute. So its only fair to pick on your obvious crush on Sly. It will stop, when you stop picking on her, until then, its open season. See above. Keep picking on Gazer & I'll show you which one
