It's a very small one but they are very dedicated. They don't speak for the movie going audience, though.

I often wonder if they shouldn't just have both actively going: "Straight to DVD movies' for Smallville with Welling IN COSTUME as Superboy. - AND - Feature films with Routh.
Giant followings on tv don't always translate to the same followings in the features. Even Trek faltered & died for awhile.
And....just look at "Serenity", which also has a rabid internet following....wasn't NEARLY enough box office in the end to justify a sequel.
Would be curious why WB doesn't just ok a 'tiny' budgeted movie called "Smallville" strictly for the fans of that show to see what happens.

"Rabid"? What is that supposed to mean?
I don't know what your problem is with Smallville. If you hate it, ignore it!
I'm sure if Routh gets a cameo things will be different.

So?
I don't dislike the prequels cos they're interfering with anything else or cos some people want Welling in the Superman role.
I talk about them cos they are connected to other films I love.

;D ....exactly, Smallville is unfortunately also connected to a character a adore. Heck, he's wearing Brandon's suit soon, apparently..

Nah, I don't think it'd be a good idea because it divides the fandom. There should only be one live action Superman actor per generation I think. WB should have canceled the show when the movie got the green light.

Having two "Supermen" would only hurt the character. There's no good that can come of that. It works for animated films, but not live action films.
What WB should have done is waited till SMALLVILLE ran its course before they filmed SR. But, if it weren't for SMALLVILLE, SR wouldn't have happened. SMALLVILLE put the Superman mythology back on TV which made SR possible. It's a yin and yang thing.

I agree that there is a degree of connection between the two- but I'm not sure it's 100% one way or the other. I cite "Star Trek" as the best example (though maybe it's the only real example right now) of what can happen when there's both a tv show and a movie series from the same concept at the same time. When the quality was good & what was coming out had high standards, box office was strong at the movie theatres AND a Star Trek tv series at the same time. (In fact, there might have been TWO tv shows at the same time as a movie, if I recall correctly) If anything, one seemed to help the other. However.... When the quality was mediocre to poor--- the overexposure didn't help either one. And I'm sure it didn't help. Ah well. Moot point- but if there's a split in decisions over making a "Smallville" feature & a "Superman" feature- then make both imo. But save the big money for "Superman". Let "Smallville" have 'straight to dvd'.

I agree with most of that except that if it wasn't for Smallville another Superman film wouldn't have happened; WB had been trying to make another Superman film way before Smallville even existed. It wasn't even going to be a show based on Supes but on Batman. A film franchise was always the priority. In fact, they wanted to canceled the show but Bryan Singer told them (bad move Singer) that he thought both show and film franchise could co-exist. I think he made a mistake.

It's not the same as with Superman, imo. With Star Trek it worked like you said when the quality was good. Plus no one was playing the exact same character. I have no problem having Capt Picard and his crew having adventures on the big screen while Janeway and Sisko have their own on tv. It's not the same character.
You can't say the same with Superman and Lois Lane and the rest. Fans will only compare and choose their favorite and yes fight and argue over who looks the best in the suit, who has bigger muscles, who looks more like the character, who is the best actor, who is the best Lois, etc. It gets bad.

Star Trek worked because it was the same continuity. TNG, DS9 and Voyager were based on a certain reality. Also, IMHO, having three Star Trek based shows hurt Nemesis box office return. It helped during the first Generation movies, but it really did hurt Nemesis. Sure, the movie wasn't all that great, but there was too much Trek at the time. The long break helped ST09 be a hit. That and it was a great movie with a stellar cast! Smallville had nothing to do with SR, but had everything to do with STM.

Although Peters was looking to produce a Superman movie. He stopped pushing for it after 1996. It wasn't until 2002 when Warners started looking to reboot the franshise. SMALLVILLE started develpment in 2000, two years before Warners started to push for another movie. Partly due to SMALLVILLE's stellar ratings the first two season; the other was Fox making good comic book films with Spidey and X-Men. Singer can't decide whether a TV series gets canned or not, other than House. If that, it's really Fox's decision. Which brings up my next comment. Only Warner Bros. Television can decide to cancel SMALLVILLE, no one else.

This I would agree with - except it looks like they're moving on from SR
Plus Smallville is ending soon, so who cares?

Welling was going to wear a Superman suit either way. It's cost effective for him to wear Brandon's SR suit; so be it.
At least with SMALLVILLE we won't have that stupid brown dull filter Singer loves so much.
Of course, even if Welling looks great in the suit, I can already tell you who's going to say he looks horrible.
Love you's!

I'm disappointed they're using the SR suit for Smallville. Not because I dislike the SR suit, but because I just always enjoy seeing the different versions of the Superman suit in live action. Was hoping to see another interpretation.
I just hope Welling looks comfortable and confident when he puts it on. If he doesn't, then the moment is ruined.
Routh ALWAYS looked at ease as Superman, and that's incredibly important.

Welling's had a decade to prepare. If he's awkward then it'll be a major fail. I have no doubts he'll put it off though (in context of the show anyway)

Mostly during some of the non CGI flying scenes.

There are a few fake Brandon accounts out there I know, and he knows it too. He even acknowledges it in his opening posts on Facebook. And that really is him in case you were implying otherwise. He tweeted this last night: BrandonJRouth Thank you to everyone who's commented/followed. I'm honored and humbled by the outpouring of kind words and blessings. You guys are awesome. And this is the pic he posted as proof it was the real Brandon,
