Warm unapologetic photography; chemistry between the cast; some excellent dialogue scenes; a great "shirt rip" moment; some wirework/flying up smoothly; better music and editing; Cav having FUN.

Superman speaking several different languages at some point during the film. That's one thing I loved about Superman IV. I always thought it made sense especially in the Reeve series. Especially if Clark's brain can process information faster.

What should be new "Superman theme" in part 2?
Flight? Or Ideal of Hope?

The second half of flight seems to be connected (thematically) to Krypton.

A sequel next year? to quote Gus Gorman; ''Whoa ho!!'' Doubt that will happen unless of course they have half of it in the bag already? However, unlikely!
Full use of all powers, breath, hearing, sight etc...
I want a lot of Clark Kent / Lois Lane Daily Planet stuff, CK making use of his powers without the suit, that sort of thing.

Hmm...ditto. With this team and in this day in age tho? Good luck. Goyer seems to be hanging on Nolan's tit of overly serious realism and sucking on it for dear life. He wrote his share of stupid silly concepts before Batman Begins but now he acts like he's always done the realism a schtick. I love serious comic book movies but Marvel also knows how to inject fun. For the most part they are unashamedly proud to embrace the fun of the source material.

I'd love to see Faora again but I doubt it'll happen.

some wirework/flying up smoothly Even though I was forewarned about this - it irks me that they couldn't bother with any graceful takeoffs or in-flight movement that wasn't 1000 miles per hour. It's not THAT difficult from a technical aspect in this day and age... so it's clearly a creative choice. I guess it's considered outdated. It sure seems that way.

Sounds like WB talking hype just to get the grosses even higher. There's no way they can mount a sequel that fast. They'd have to be filming now just to have a chance. Even two years later sequels are often rushed and flawed. Iron Man 2, Blade Trinity, and the big daddy turd Batman & Robin. Every once in a while you get a Spider-Man 2 but most directors need enough time to prep these things right.

Good points. I guess our only hope is that they started preparing a script long before this MOS was released with the hope that it would be a big hit.

A fun article about possible comic book storylines that would work within the world that Man of Steel established: denofgeek.us/movies/man-of-steel/137976/10-possible-sequels-for-man-of-steelI tell ya...he mentions "For The Man Who Has Everything" which immediately set off alarm bells, but the more I think about it, given the Krypton we just saw, and the opportunity for more Crowe/Shannon (not to mention being an interesting/non-traditional way to introduce a new Batman), this would be the Godfather 2 of superhero movies!

My biggest wish for it, a big rescue, musical build up, he gets there in the nick of time type thing.
Second biggest wish, better pacing, Clark enjoying life knowing who he is, having Lois to confide in.

Its not even plausible, even if they had a story that let them reuse all the setpieces blown up in part1.
I can see filming in 2014 for late 2015- just to get something on the books...

I think this is one thing EVERYONE can agree on for MOS: MOS 2 - in 2014, if they're only starting NOW?
HIGHLY doubt it. What OTHER big budget superhero film has been able to get completed in such a short time frame? Even with Marvel's successful moviemaking machine, hasn't it always taken (at the very least) two years?

The interesting thing to me that Goyer talks about is that his concerns about the real world dance around what (seemed to be the) sequel to SR was going to do!

2015 is going to be crazy.
Man of Steel 2 Avengers 2 Star Wars Episode VII Bond 24
Well, I think that's the studios' ideas, but we all know how these things can fall apart.

So, I watched the reviews from the MovieMoan guys, and they're fun as heck. I guess the guy used to post here ages ago as Ross Webster, so he claims. Anyway, I watched the Supergirl episode. If you haven't seen it, I did a uh fun review on the Last Movie thread. It's such a bizzare movie.
But... I'd like to see if Supergirl can be pulled off. Given the MOS pre-comic and the Easter egg in the movie, it's a possibility. I'm all for it. But the filmmakers have got to get someone hotter than the usual Nolan women. Don't get me wrong, I think Amy Adams is beautiful, but I wouldn't cast her as Supergirl. I would hope the girl is highly attractive and fit, an unknown or lesser known actress. No one like Dakota Fanning, no stunt casting.
And it can be done well. Loebs did a fine job with his re-introduction 10 years ago in Superman/Batman. I re-watched the animated movie on Netflix last night, and it's good for the abridged version.

New request: Grant Morrison writing the screenplay. If they want to make something different, then why not something even more different in tone then, that embraces the fantastic like Morrison's ALL-Star Superman did?
Given how bizzarely fantastic the Krypton is visually, why not take even more chances, then? Let's see the Lorelei as the mermaid (as the Lois/Clark romance seems a bit flat anyways), bottle cities of Kandor, cameos by the Legion, a mind-blowing design for Brainiac.... at least give us dreamlike images that we can savor.
(Edit: I am joking about most of the mermaid)

How come we heard so much about all this amazing Kryptonian wildlife, yet all we saw was a dragonfly and some retarded dinosaur roaring when Kal-El was born?

I don't feel it's realism--- it feels more that the problem is that Goyer has more of a belief in nihilism in his work.
That's part of why I think Goyer's dialogue about hope is odd... we never really felt it as much as it felt talked about a lot in MOS.

Yeah.... When I recall how audiences in the theatre literally 'gasped' in wonder when Jurrassic Park introduced the cgi dinosaurs for the first time (there were literal cheers and applause in the theatre at the fx breakthrough before CGI got old) --- I'd always wish audience would have that sense of magical wonder when they see Krypton realized fully on-screen. Parts of Krypton really is amazing, (and Snyder gets full credit from me on that part), but I still hold out hope in the future that one day we'll have the type of Krypton that makes you gasp at its beauty. ((To be fair, it kind of is, in a David Lynch way on Krypton, but it would be nice to see it in a 'wow I wish I could live there' way.))
