Cavill didn't portray Clark and Superman as two different personas. Even in costume, he's still "Clark". I know. I've been pointing that out in this thread. What's your point? Why the heck do you think people keep saying Reeve had an advantage in terms of range because of the material that Cavill didn't?

Hahahaha, poor MoS can't beat anything in these polls. Well, except for Superman III and even that is giving MOS a run for its money.
Give it a few months, MOS will wind up on the shit list...just like SR.

I didn't think it was bad but you're right the shine will probably wear off with some people in the world. Tends to happen once the hype of something new fades and one is left to chew in it for a while.
Check out this review when you get the chance. Another one that sums up some of the problems.

My bet is that MoS will settle into history/memory at a similar level as Independence Day.

That guy pretty much nails how I feel about it. It's not a matter of nostalgia, they just haven't been able to build upon STM/SII (SR) or update it in a satisfactory way (MoS). Everyone is determined to make Superman this moody, sad guy when he's just not that at all. Not saying he shouldn't have his moments of sadness, but it seems to permeate throughout the film.

Exactly. WB just can't seem to let their characters be who they are. Its been biting them in the ass on the big screen for years. Don't get so caught up in following other companies or characters trends
If MOS is what they are going to do with a Justice League movie they've killed my interest.

I may have pointed the obvious but no need for condescending.

Ab yes the age old calm down bit. Im pretty calm. No need to point out what everybody has already been talking about either. We get it. I don't think anyone needed it spelled out for them.

I initially resented MOS as supplanting SR 2- But, as time passed and it became clear that MOS was supplanting NOTHING---
Then, I was hoping MOS would be another TDK, but fearful it was going to be like the worst parts of WATCHMEN. I questioned some of the casting choices and unnecessary changes, but if it ended up being in spirit like X1 or X: First Class, would have forgiven the changes and all.
In the meantime, TDKR came out and made me REALLY worry, as Nolan proved (to me) that he could make a movie that was sloppy.
Then, with MOS's late trailers- excitement really built up again. Wow.... What if this thing is fantastic?
Then- upon seeing it (twice)..... It had some great new innovations, some GREAT bits, but felt like overall it was worse put together than WATCHMEN--- and some episodes of Smallville: the tv show. Snyder's action sequences were great in Sucker Punch, but these weren't put together as well as that, either.
One thing for sure: it didn't unite anybody on either side of the SR fences. If anything, MOS just seemed to add a lot of anger and frustrations to the board with divided feelings about the film.

Cavil played clark and superman the same because at this point in the narrative they are. At the close of MOS he is beginning to develop "metropolis clark".

Personally I wasn't concerned with MOS supplanting anything or being like past versions of Superman or anything like that. I just set my sights on a good time action movie with maybe some interesting things to say. Not a Dark Knight level of depth or drama but something worthy of Superman. This was the start of a new DCCU and I was on board. But I got a mediocre movie. A movie that gave me yet more SR styled heavy handedness with some even dumber action
Among fans this movie might be AS divisive than SR. I haven't seen a comic book/superhero movie divide fans like this since SR.

Having a cat declawed actually removes part his toe.
Avoid if possible.

While we all have a huge attachment to STM and SII on here, I think some of you might get a little shock if you read some of the thoughts of the 'younger generation' on them. It's amazing how many think it's cheesy, dated and silly.

Hey I believe you. I'm not shocked. But then a lot of younger kids thinks that about MOST movies made before they were born. A friend of mine is a few years younger than me and he thinks Aliens is a totally lame piece of shit. Terrible fx and everything. Hes used to cgi. Thinks thats the only good effects. They also call Batman 89 corny cheesy with bad fx. They think The Terminator sucks and looksike a bad boring B movie. I bet a lot of kids even think Halloween is lame and the remake is better. That's the nature of the beast. The Reeve films aren't alone on that.

quite sad in a way, but I suppose it does depend on what you watched as a child and what you grew up with.

You're not wrong at all. I recently got clobbered by kids who felt incredibly bored by the original Star Wars, when I thought they'd see how wonderful and great that film was, despite older fx. Maybe WB was right after all to just ditch the Donnerverse and the old costume. ((At the same time, depending on what they're exposed to first, I'm amazed that a 7-year old today can still be enchanted with a cheesy Godzilla movie bad fx and all....))

I bet if you showed most teenage kids something like The Road Warrior or Planet of The Apes now they would think it was crap. I did show one of my younger cousins Escape From New York and he dug it but most kids would never be able to get past the special effects.

I just can't stand criticism of John Carpenter and his masterpieces. I mean, sure, I like the Rob Zombie movie, but nothing is in the same league as John Carpenter. Nothing. NOTHING.

Yeah I felt dirty saying it. But sadly its probably true. Hacks in Hollywood get more opportunities to remake Csrpenters classics than he does to create new ones. He doesn't seem as interested in dealing with the bs either.

It's amazing how many think it's cheesy, dated and silly. A lot of truth to that, especially anyone born in the 90s or beyond. They didn't grow up with the Reeve films. They probably perceive Reeve the way we perceive George Reeves. But it's not the kids, it's the culture that they grow up with. It's not just Superman. Everything has taken a turn towards darker, more jaded concepts. I'll give a college sports colors analogy. Universities that used bright primary colors in the 80s and early 90s shifted towards darker, muted tones. Now Nike complements warmer colors with blacks and greys that are not even part of the school's color code. I remember when they launched their black 'high socks' that became all the rage in the 90s... I was wondering why teens playing basketball were wearing office stockings. It looks ridiculous even as I moved to acceptance long ago.
