Wait, it wasn't a joke this time? Who was better than Dalton? Craig comes close, but still not as good. heck, even the guy in the Fleming books isn't as good as Dalton. |

Oh come on now, really? You're going to consider that a valid point and check that on the "MOS/Henry Cavill Weaknesses" list? That seems incredibly inconsequential. I wouldnt even take that guff seriously. They get more pathetic with every post To be fair....I've nearly stopped coming here altogether with these kinds of postings. Gotta get something off my chest here. I have been coming here for a ling time and seen a lot of flaming posts, board closures, new boards springing up in other places, a major modeler making a statue of Reeve and getting panned for it, etc etc.... I really think the main reason I'm barely coming here now is that I enjoy Superman the character and the stories, regardless of how Cavill is being compared to Reeve, Reeves, Cain, Welling, Routh, etc etc....I should understand now that this forum was brought into existence because of the Reeve movies and everyone here is a fan of Christopher Reeve. (Which by the way, happy belated birthday to him which was 9/25). I grew up watching his movies and being inspired by the portrayal but you know what....all this garbage about the destruction level (which everyone seems fine with Superman II (And yeah....there would've been that level of destruction if technology could've allowed it)), him killing Zod, the movie being crap (still trying to figure out how a $650+ million dollar movie is crap)....oh wait....now I know....nearly everyone here seems to think it's crap because it's not Reeve. I want a version of Reeve to be on the screen again, I do....but this isn't about our nostalgic views on a series that was perfectly fine for the 70's and 80's but kids born after those movies were released are dealing with heroes that have very little camp to their stories, are more serious as well they should be when a heroes purpose is to save lives. Last I checked, firefighters and police officers don't make corny jokes when dealing with their jobs. I know I'm gonna get rapped in the mouth for this post(see what I did there....) but literally I've been seeing this stuff coming from a mile away...Everyone got jazzed for SR then started bashing it two days after it came out (now granted some of that was warranted as I don't like the idea of Supes x-raying out Lois' house to see if she still likes him high-school-style) but most of you were jazzed as well for MoS and now...same thing. All I care about is being entertained with a good story and some action...that's what it should be....granted every reboot/origin movie is slow the first half because of the origins and how they are being told and I actually liked this method in MoS because you got origins mixed with "present-day" and that's fine. And everyone was bashing the fact that SR had no action or "no punches thrown"....we got that and now it's too much....I give up... |

It ain't about nostalgia or wanting Reeve again. It's about wanting a top quality movie. But Hollywoods gotten comfortable with lower quality productions and it seems like with it some people have gotten used to the lowered standard.
And it's not about the destruction level. It's how it's handled. In SII superman at least showed concern for the people. In MOS he's too busy making bad jokes to Lois Lane to care. He doesn't seem to be bothered by any of it. The destruction in MOS is gratuitous while in SII it at least seems to serve the drama.
At the end of II they are STILL repairing the White House. In MOS they gloss over all that.

I don't think anyone who was disappointed were so because they wanted Reeve. heck, after the blowjob that was SR I wanted as far from STM as possible.

But like you say, it's hardly surprising given this particular community started off as a tribute to the Donner films. |

Lets see, I love The Reeves show, I liked Dean Cain and Welling. The animated series.
As ATP said, Reeve has been dead for 9 years. Nobody wanted or expected MOS to be like Reeve.
I did, however, expect MOS to be a ***Superman*** movie, which this was not. Sure there was a character in MOS that was really, really sad a lot and snapped necks, but that's not Superman.

Yeah. That's what probably irks WB even more. They threw everything they had at MOS. Times been kinder to Dalton. If anything he's become a bit more appreciated. It'll be interesting to see which way it goes with Cavill over the next 25 years.
