Exactly. Same problem was in Killing Joke. But more than that the actual animation itself isn’t as fluid and the models look more flat. Like they’ve relied much more on cheap computer compositing or animation. I’m not expecting old school cel animation but WB has done better than this. The work they were doing even eight nine or ten years ago puts these recent efforts to shame. Fight choreography is worse, camera movement is worse, and even the backgrounds look worse. A lot of that is because they’ve lost a lot of talented people behind the scenes over the years. Once you notice what their best movies were and who was responsible for what it’s easy to see what happened beside the smaller budgets. Here's a question I'll pose: if budgets keep shrinking, would you prefer the 'motion comics' adaptations over being 'full' animation? For my two cents, I loved the Watchmen motion comics (except for them just using one actor's voice).... I would have prefered motion comics for "All Star Superman", "Batman: Year One", "Killing Joke", and the "Superman vs. Brainiac" stories as the art was so good in them, it would have been nice to see those in motion versus the 'full' but simplified animation. Depends on what I’m paying. But really while I’ve liked some motion comics I’d rather have one or the other and not the sort of in between of a motion comic. To me each medium offers things the other doesn’t and that’s the appeal. While I like some of them motion comics don’t fully offer either of those. Part of the appeal of animation is seeing how a comic is adapted to fit a new form.

Yeah it was pretty a lame comparison (and not even very accurate) especially since no one even knew who the kardashians were in 1993. Their dad wouldn’t even get national fame until a year later. Just seems like a lazy reference since they couldn’t think of anything else and thought it would get the attention of the teenage urchins who are either not even gonna watch this or just pirate it. I bought this today and hopefully I’ll get to watch it later on.
Had high hopes when it was announced despite most of their recent stuff kind of sucking. Still hate that it’s in the crappy new 52 film continuity. Doesn’t make sense that Batman’s adaptations are stand alone and more comic based while everything else like death of Superman or Judas contract are done in this awful shared universe. Death of Superman should have been based on the comic and stand alone like you said much the same way dark knight returns was.

Got around to watching this. I agree it’s ok. Not great but not awful either. There are moments that are very good but it’s brought down by some poor choices and lack of time. O’Connell is hit and miss as Superman. He has gotten better and when he really hits he’s on. But other times I wish someone else was playing it. Rebecca Romijn as Lois? Meh. They could have done better. The animated could be better but does improve somewhat for the big action sequences.
I like some of the changes. Not a true adaptation of the comics but it does pay homage to certain things like Lex Luthor Jr. the story does work better with the classic Luthor. The whole “Lex is playing his own son in a cloned body” story is way too convoluted for an 80 minute movie. I Iike how they show how different characters love Superman before Doomsday offs him. That hit home. Seems like the movies idea is Darkseid boomtubed Doomsday to earth. They still took too much from Superman Doomsday that didn’t work like Lois finding out he was Superman right before he fought Doomsday. In the comic she’s known for a little bit but they try to condense it for these films for dramatic effect. Doomsday at least did it better with her knowing before the start of the film. Here doing all that in one film makes it feel pretty crammed in all the wrong places. That time could have been better spent on other things.
The fight itself was pretty good. Better than I expected. Certainly did a better job with the death of Superman than BVS and JL did. Those films rushed through everything and never gave the time to get an sense of impending doom or show how hard it was for the League or Superman to stop Doomsday. In this film Doomsday really put Superman through the wringer and it showed how worn down he was. They didn’t put Cavill’s Superman through that long fight endurance test that we saw in the comics.
I’m split on the incarnation of the League they used. The B team in the comics shows how they went down so easily and why Superman had to do it on his own. But the movies line up is all heavy hitter A list members and makes Doomsday look even more impressive. I did think most of them went down far too fast and easily though. Wonder Woman was the only other Leaguer who I felt like got her due. Guys like GL and the Manhunter would have put up far more of a fight.
It’s interesting to compare all these post JL War movies to the Snyderverse since they’re all drawing from the same source material of Geoff Johns and the New 52.

I was going to see the event at a local theatre- but the character designs put me off too much. It's another reason that it's hard to sit through 'Flashpoint"....

Yeah I wasn’t crazy about the models used since flashpoint for their new 52 based animated universe. I think they’ve gotten better but I always felt they were flawed. I don’t just mean the costume designs but the overall style.

I think they tried to hard to sort of reboot everything for their new 52 universe. Some of the styles used in previous movies were fine. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Just improve it.
