NOT looking forward to this, given the costume and the casting. Ugh.

I think the casting is solid. I’m more interested in the storytelling potential. This is also the first true Superman series in almost 25 years. How is that gonna play now? The idea of the kid and being married is also appealing. It’s like they’re going to really get into the stuff Lois & Clark only scratched the surface of.

I never liked the casting for Oliver Queen, Black Canary, and now Superman. On the other hand, Grant Justin is perfect for Flash, initially I had resistance but Melissa Benoist fits perfectly for their version of Supergirl, and some of the casting for Titans is fantastic. Maybe I'll grow to adjust to Hoechlin as Supes.... but I think the casting director for "Smallville" had more 'hits' in my book.

I think their casting was just as mixed especially with the supporting roles and some of the villains. Never felt their Zod or Deathstroke or Cat Grant. I liked Smallvilles Jimmy Olsen better but they just had to convolute it needlessly. Then there’s the issue of casting for looks vs casting for talent. I’d take Benoist over Vandervoort anytime. I really think Melissa has made the Supergirl role her own. I still think Shipp is the best cast Barry Allen but I like Gustin a lot. Amell isn’t really any kind of comic book version of Green Arrow but I think his version works. It’s just it’s own thing. Hartley was definitely more a golden age green arrow though. I also think the Krypton versions of Zod and Brainiac were better than the Smallville or Arrowverse versions.
The original Arrow version of “Laurel” Lance/Black Canary was a disaster but I love the earth 2 version. I really feel like they took what didn’t work and fixed it. It’s a different character but it’s better.

Singer originally wanted the actor who played Iceman for Jimmy Olsen, funny how they got his twin. Hartley IS the Green Arrow imo. Such a pity he wasn't approached for the 'real' arrow but I think he's loving being on "This is us."

He wasn’t approached for Arrow for the same reason Alan Richtson from Smallville wasn’t approached to play Aquaman in the Mercy Reef pilot (and they cast Justin Hartley instead). They wanted to do their own take with their own version free from the continuity from smallville. If they’d cast Hartley people would think Arrow was a continuation of that. They had the freedom to do their own version of the dc universe. The Smallville versions had already gone a certain way
As for Welling and Durance they looked the parts but were average actors imo. Welling was pretty weak as an actor early on but did get better. In terms of sheer performance a lot of other actors have done better than both. Give me Hatcher or Kidders talent over Durances any day. I think even Cain had more charisma than Welling.

I don't know if Welling or Durance are great thespians, but the charm and charisma as their characters have/had me sold as the characters. Hartley had some interesting things to say about Arrow and Aquaman on the "Inside of you" podcast by Rosenbaum. Worth checking out!

My concern for this show is going to be the writing. I stopped watching all the CW shows a while back because the writing was just utter shit across the board. 5 years of Arrow, 3 Flash and a couple of seasons of Legends and Supergirl and I'd had enough. I haven't seen anything of them since then. I'll be tuning into the the Ciris special for Routh, but I can't imagine this new show being anything other than more of the same. Who is Superman going to fight? Haven't all of his rogues gallery shown up on Supergirl already?

A lot of the Berliantiverse I agree is pretty mediocre- there's good stuff, but there's also a lot of boring romance woven in and just DULL material.... but compared to Netflix's Iron Fist, Inhumans, etc.--- it's definitely ahead of those shows and one appreciates the Berlianti stuff more. I really have issues with the casting... I had some issues with casting with Arrow, but the first few seasons entertained enough. I'll probably check It out, but.... with the casting and costume, I am a bit turned off...

I think you can say that about most of the supermen btw. Cains not great but he’s likable and charming. Teri plays it well even though she’s got a terrible reputation.

Zods status is up in the air. Lex is back and a lot of those characters are still around. Just because they’ve been used doesn’t mean they’re dead or off limits. If anything it’ll make some things easier since they don’t have to do origins they can just get right too it. Parasite is a transferable organism and Id imagine Metallo could be someone else or even rebuilt the way Otis Graves was. This is a Superman whose been around for a while so most of his known adventures are probably backstory. They’ll have to craft a lot more new stuff which is a good thing.

It's definitely better. The Reeve-esque \S/ and the collar shape look good. Shame they're still sticking with the cape clasp attachments.

I wish I could get over the casting...which of course is totally subjective.
I'm old enough to remember the George Reeves re-runs, was pleasantly shocked when the Reeve/Donner film came next (always pictured Superman as always looking 40-50 years old not a 25 year old, until the Donner film)- Didn't quite connect to the first Superboy, but the second one felt also like he came out from a comic book- Enjoyed the unique tv Dean Superman- but that came packaged uniquely with Teri Hatcher and the amusing first season- And then was fine with Tom Welling- and of course shocked how Routh emulated Reeve. I even was actually 'okay-sh' with Henry Cavill despite horrible take from the writers on him....
But... Tyler REALLY feels miscast to me. The costume is better, but I just feel like it's a guy trying to play the part rather than feeling like the other actors who more embody my sense of the character.
I know... sour grapes. Still will check out the show, but....

Tyler’s got that million dollar superman smile and when he’s being positive you can totally see why they cast him as Superman. To me if Routh is more of a post Crisis (now Kingdom Come) Superman, and Cavill is a new 52 Superman, then Hoechlin is the DC rebirth Superman. His costumes totally reflect that take. He has a great moment in Crisis when the Anti Monitor is about to destroy the waverider and everyone is defiant in the face of death. Right when Iris looks at him when their about to die he gives her a reassuring look that was pure Superman. That right there told me why the cast him. www.cbr.com/crisis-tyler-hoechlin-superman-final-moment/amp/Any issues I’ve had with his Superman lately is down to writing. I do feel like they’ve made him look a little weak recently to put other characters over. It’s the same problem the first season of the justice league cartoon had where they used Superman getting overpowered to out over how powerful any new threat was.
