Well in the one I have here, it's the incomplete deleted scenes straight off the deluxe dvd. But the person has added the higher quality music from superman the music discs - notably for the NM1 fight.
I have another cut of the movie that someone kindly sent me from superman cinema ages ago, which has the fully restored tornado and russian nuke scenes. The quality is a bit rough though, since it is straight off a laserdisc.

The quality is a bit rough though, since it is straight off a laserdisc. Mine appears to have those scenes from the laserdisc. The quality is very fuzzy. But you can see what I assume are Japanese subtitles during the tornado scene.

I can't remember if there was subtitles on the one I have, but it could be from the same guy.

I have that footage too. I'll stick with the deleted scene footage (since the quality is the lesser of two evils), then cut back to the laserdisc footage for the tornado and certain scenes in Russia. That way, no Japanese subtitles.

Here is the laserdisc footage I'm talking about (that was on the other cut I received from someone over at Superman Cinema):
Luckily, it doesn't have the subtitles, that I thought it had.

In the one I was sent it almost appears as if those two scenes were taken from an old video taped copy of the laserdisc. The quality of those sections is VERY fuzzy,
The temp track music was muted out as much as possible for the cut scenes from the DVD. But during dialogue you can hear the temp music.

Ah, same as me. I'm trying to be creative with the fades to make sure little to no temp music makes it way on, but some is just unavoidable.
Is there any free software that could clean that audio up?

Jimbo, If the Japanese lazerdisc has high quality, but has Japanese subtitles that cross over it- I can 'mask' that out easily- but depending on how much the subtitles cross over the actual image, (I don't know, as I don't own the lazerdisc)- would this be preferred over the scratchy deleted scene version on the Superman collection?
And... side-update: finishing up a work project by next weekend, then a new eta for the one Nuclear Man fight scene.... the recoloring of Supes' flying is easy as pie, if you still need that. (Much easier than scratch removal- bleaugh).

CAM,
There really isn't an issue with the subtitles.
Despite having those scratches, the deleted scene footage is superior to the laserdisc footage. I would only use the shots of the completed tornado, shots of the completed Russia scene, and shots of visual effects.
All the talking stuff, like the parents shouting for their daughter, would be from the DVD's deleted scene footage without subtitles.

Some recolouring might need to be done on the workprint footage as it is quite dark and the reds are more like orange. ;D

True, the blues on his costume are annoyingly too light and the flying shots are really...well terrible. Plus at one point in the movie, I'm sure it looks as though Chris Reeve has been plastered in fake tan.

They should have released a ultimate Donner/Lester hybrid SII SE and a Superman IV extended cut with new fx this year. This was the perfect time to do it. 30th anny of STM and 70th anny of Superman in general.
Stupid WB.

I totally agree Metallo, I think Warner underestimates the demand and interest in the Superman movies. Having said that, not just Superman, but even Batman as well. Two of the world's greatest superheroes totally not given what they deserve (or what the fans deserve ;D). Having said that, they kinda redeemed themselves with TDK for Batman.

Aye, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for what SIV COULD have been. What it was trying to be at its heart. Cant WAIT to see this. Go Jimbo!

So.... the father leading his wife and son to the tornado shelter... FORGOT HIS DAUGHTER! Come on!
Actually, that's the absolute least of this films problems.

Man... After watching that clip, I can really say this.... The music in SIV is truly fantastic. That NM theme.... So menacing and evil... and dare I say it... Cool. Props to Williams for penning it.
Anyway, moving swiftly on... Is the infamous "Lacy In Space" scene gonna be modified as once planned on the other board? I think we can all agree that that would be so frickin sweet.

Well, Alex had the plates for that, and the ability to make that work. I do not have the software for that.
That really would have been sweet. One of the many groan moments would be swept away.

There's more than enough deleted Superman IV footage available to create a really good extended version of Superman IV. Other footage can be re-created (green screen/rotoscoping) with material from other movies. CrazyAsianMan made some excellent footage for Superman II. I would love to see an extended cut of Superman IV!

I've finally worked out how to do the flying 3D titles properly (for my own cut of Superman 2) like out of Superman: The Movie from using after effects. I've been trying to figure that one out for what felt like a lifetime.
If you want, I can make some 3D titles for this Superman IV cut with a space backdrop etc.

And make this movie better than it should be? Certainly not! ;D
The existing credits sync nicely to the music already, so I'm good, thanks.
