I finally sat down to watch Jim's edit yesterday. Its a shame we got the soundtrack before this cut as the music was the only real reason I used to watch this. So without that incentive, I could watch it more or less unbias - and what a pile of boring crap it is. Jim, I give you 10/10 for your efforts and this has got to be a definitive version (until anyone can improve on the sound editing; too bad WB inserted the soundtrack from STM and used that Bubble Bobble-esque music, which must have been a burden to get around. I can see why the film was cut. I used to prefer the cartoony IV over the dreary III but now my opinion has changed. A boring pile of shit that never gets its feet off the ground. Thanks, Russ. The deleted scenes were definitely a pain in the ass. I wish I could have gotten more of the temp music out of there. As for the cuts, I think the stuff with Lex Luthor selling nukes to Russia and USA was a great scene. Hackman was great in his role as usual, and more of him could help elevate the movie.

Aye, I agree about Hackman, but the scene with NM1 and "My boy" was just too weird
The shot of the girls filing their nails indifferently has got to be the series nadir.

I don't know what kind of joke they were trying to tell with those two girls. When NM1 is being made, they're shown doing their nails yet again, only with radiation shield masks on. In the temp track too, they even added tweety bird sounds to get the message across. Yeah, we got it, guys.
If there's one nice thing to say about Superman IV, it's that the sets were really nice. Lex's skyscraper lair had a pretty nice design. Daily Planet was different from the Salkind movies, but it did its job. Location work though (fake UN) hurt a lot though. Same thing goes for Masters of the Universe, a really cool set for the bad guy. That Castle Greyskull throne room was beautiful.

The lack of extras in the Planet set really hurt it. More noticable in w/screen.
yeah, the bird noises - WTF was that about? What retard decided that'd be a good idea?

Thanks Jim! It arrived today and it is NOT broken! When I get a chance to watch the whole thing I will give you my thoughts. I am looking at the new stuff right now. I like how you handled the Metro Club.

Holy shit, I had no idea so much was going on in this board. I'm almost always exclusively at the Diner. Shit, there's even people here I've never seen. Crazy.
It's kinda like going back to your house and seeing other people living there.

Welcome back, Hurst. The cut is available for download on page 1 of this thread. If you need a DVD, then check around in this thread who could make you a copy. Enrique: branch out, man! Since there's only bad news about a new Superman movie, there's not much going on here.

And, there's always Smallville.

'Darren, where are you? DARREN'
'Who is this 'Darren' you speak of?'
'You'll find out General and when you do....'

I love this edit Jim. I've said it before. It's just nice seeing the movie flow together as an actual movie than some TV movie, which the theatrical feels like. Why the heck they couldn't give us the complete tornado and russian nuke scenes as they were on the UK VHS tapes, I really don't know.. Still, what you did using the laserdisc source, is probably the best we will ever see those scenes again.

Are you gonna be doing an HD version of this using the blurays as source?

Are you gonna be doing an HD version of this using the blurays as source? Dunno, maybe. It was a huge drain the first time around, considering the source material. Can you imagine having to pour over every scene several times? I lost a piece of my soul. I could probably use some digital trickery to improve the quality of the deleted scenes. It would still have the film damage, but I could improve the color.

IF anything, the colours from the deleted scenes will match the new HD master better than the DVD before lol.
Regarding digital manipulation, CAM experimented with some stuff - he even tried dirt removal I think amongst other things. Not sure how successful he was with it though.

I did one for Superman II that I never really finished. It was basically the ABC Cut + Brando - slapstick. I'm gonna redo it in HD.
