" i don't care if the instructions are in RUSSIAN "this was from the scene where lex's henchmen bring in the missile ( evidently from russia ). except the line reading is a bit off- he should put the emphasis on " care " as opposed to " russian " . the point is , that the instructions are in russian , but lex doesn't care. he wants the damn thing assembled on the deck of the boat!! " i dont care if the instructions are in russian " ( uhmm..they are actually so... ) " i dont care if the instructions are in russian " ( oh- well .. ok then we'll figue it out..) Worst. Movie. Ever. " eeewww...its like a pictue of sean connery autographed by roger moore.."

But Connery is awesome when he says something. If he says "ad-VERS-ary, then doggone it, it's time to change Webster's. Sure, make fun of his pronunciation, but NO ONE says JACK about a Russian with a Scottish accent. ;D well I agree with you... but gibson a nut !! change websters!

How do you figure that. Like it or not Routh was a good Superman. better than most of the other if not ALL the other potential candidates we know about
Sam Hunnigton was the best Jimmy Olsen since McClure...maybe the third best Jimmy Olsen ever. he nailed that character.
Frank Langella is Frank Langella. Nuff said really. Looks like the Silver age Perry, imposing and authoritative. The guy has gotten praise for everything from Skeletor to Zorro to now Richard Nixon. He's the real deal
Spacey's been a name mentioned for Luthor for a decade. Great choice.
Eva Marie Saint was rock solid. Great actress.
The only person who can have any REAL argument being made about them being miscast was Bosworth and even then there have been worse Lois's and worse choices.
Most of those elements from Superman's history you speak of went together pretty well. The average person wouldn't know enough to complain about it anyway. SR's problem was a more somber movie and perhaps a character that people just aren't as excited about unless you present them with something REALLY unique.
Shittier movies than SR have made more. Spider-man 3 anyone? SR is one of the higher grossing comic book movies of the last decade with maybe 5 other movies doing a lot more business so that counts for something.

Too young, lacked presence, extremely wooden, and just plain didn't convince me he was Superman. I've long felt casting unknowns as superheroes is always a recipe for disaster, and he did nothing to change that. Anybody who plays Superman should at the very least be a "Hey, It's That Guy" in his mid-30s with a long track record of work behind him, if not an actor of stature. Uh......huh. I knew Christopher Reeve was a bad idea in the 70s. Thanks for giving my thoughts words.

Reeve was too pale. He was whiter than white can be, I must say.

And the dude suffered from Alopecia. The wigs he wore in all four movies were just horrible and it did make him look "fake". A real Super Man can grow his own hair! Donner obviously messed up and should have hired Burt Reynolds! Now that's a real man with real hair.... Snap, he wore a toupee, too. No, Robert Redford is the obvious choice, or Harrison Ford. But, Harrison talks way too slow. Kinda like he's retarded or something.

True, making $300,218,018 ($944MM with inflation) back in 1978/1979 just wasn't enough for WB. The movies that followed were done because the Salkinds had a contract with WB.

i respectfully resubmit: You guys remember how depressingly Evil Superman was in Superman III? He had the same colors as the standard Superman Returns suit. Remeber how awesome it was to see Clark ripping open his shirt at the junkyard with the True Red and Yellow S shield? this is not a jab at you- it just reminds me of a tired debate. but S:III / SR costume similarities is a classic example of apples and oranges. S:III - superman's red/yellow/blue suit becomes purple/violet/dingy yellow for TWO reasons , overt and subtextual : 1) - literal : superman's suit needs washed. his boy scout image is is eroding and his boy scout image is eschewed for a bad boy image that doesnt suit him, and eventually he realises this.... which takes us to.... 2) - subtext : red and blue make purple. supermans superman suit is made of sharp primary colors in sharp contast. in SIII , the blurring of the colors from red and blue to violet is symbolic of superman's moral compass wavering. whearas he had graciously resisted miss tesmaucher , he loses his mind for lorelie. he inflicts needless violence for the heck of it - when he defeats this aspect of himself his moral clarity - and his visual appearance ( a visual dogma ) is restored. SUPERMAN RETURNS - completely different. the suit is not erratically changed to convey a change of personality- it is done for aesthetics . like i posted a few posts ago- it was created to look exotic and alien. the kryptonians superficially look human , but thier culture(s) , fashion , technology are completely different from our sensibilities . like john byrne at dc comics in the 80's , the effort to establish superman as not-human-but-desiring-humanity leads to cosmetic changes . we are rightly surprised by some of these - but it is unfair to say S3 and SR costumes are synonimous . we have to accept a natural evolution here, if brandon routh was wearing kirk alyn's leotards we would have laughed our way out of the damn movie theater . superman is alien. mythically he is a god-man. so his indigenous costume material HAS to NOT resmble something we could easily identify.

In Superman IV what is the story behind it being daytime in both Metropolis and China at the same time?? Did the fight go on for days and a lot of it cut out or something?
