But thats the thing.. Superman Returns was not a flop. Sure it didn't make the money WB was expecting, but it was NOT a flop.
Show me how much Singer's budget (Not 10 years of money wasted on other failed attempts by other directors and people attached to the project) was and how much it made worldwide. It made it's money back and then some. It made more money than Batman Begins, and Batman Begins is not a flop.. so how can Superman Returns be called a flop?
It wasn't condemned by fanboys like you say if it made over $400 million worldwide. You can't please everyone, obviously it didn't please a few of you, but it did please more people around the world than what your saying it did.

yea dude i don't agree with anything u said there... but I like your screen name. U must join me and together, we'll destroy Superman Returns!!!!!!!!!! Destroy what? The movie flopped. It's already a dead issue. Besides, your rants are nothing but self-serving fanboy nonsense. You give SR critics like me a bad name because nothing you say has any basis in the source material (even I can see SR is a faithful version of Superman, just ineptly handled), any basis in the franchise's history, or any basis in common sense. And frankly, your obssession with "destroying" a movie that failed at the box office and was condemned by fanboys before it even started filming is more of the same tired fanboy screeching I'm already sick of. Yeah, the movie was disappointing, I get it. It tanked, I get it. There's not going to be a sequel, I get it. At what point do we let it go and forget about it? No, I won't "join you." You're everything I've come to hate about the Superman fandom. Uh... well then.............................. if you will not be turned... YOU WILL... BE... DES.... okay wait I digress here. Mr. downwithrouth you and I are on different wavelengths but we're on the same end of the spectrum I assure you. At best I'll assume that my meek lil' posts were the catalyst for your appearance here.... a genius like you is exactly what this board needs! Spread your SR enlightenment I urge you. It is the only way the legacy of the Reeve films will be preserved and the future of the series saved.

Aha.. so the bottom line is that you are doing ALL this noise because it is the only way the legacy of the Reeve films will be preserved, according to you??!? So you feel actually threatened by the existance of SR and Brandon?? Do you really think that SR/Brandon will errase our love for Reeve and his Superman movies?? WHY? HOW could you possible think that?? How sad.. have you stopped to think that to a lot of people our appreciation for SR made us go back and revisit the Reeve films that maybe some of us had not seen in many, many years? You know, SR was so enjoyable to me that made me want to buy the 'old films' and rediscover them all over again. You can like/love both versions, you know? I DO.

The Reeve films are always going to be around and nothing will affect their own individual quality and I feel sorry for anyone who is stupid enough to confuse them with SR or anyone stupid enough to think that might happen.

I feel threatened by George Reeves. Kirk Alyn was the first Man of Steel so therefore Reeves, Reeve and Routh are obsolete.

The Chris Reeve Suerman movies blow cause they arent spot on Siegel and Shuster. Thats got more validity than what some of these SR haters are tossing.

Did You know that some fans didn't like Reeve as Supes BECAUSE he wasn't/didn't look like George Reeves? The difference is that there wasn't Internet to bit** on like today.

If I had a chance to vote for Bill Clinton to become King or benevolent dictator I would. Does that make me a bad person?

mr. downwithrouth I think those Fletche... (f*cker? ? ) cartoons suck ASS! 1st of all the drawing are SHIT and Superman looks and acts like a retarded monkey. Oh and BLACK on the S shield?? WTF does Superman have a man-crush on Batman or something?? He shouldn't wear black at all! Now the Reeve films I admit are mostly bad, but they have a few redeeming qualities.... kinda like Martin Luthur King Jr. but we STILL celebrate his birthday. So at least respect Reeve's films

Funny thing about SR haters is that it has been two and half years since SR was released and they still come to message boards to complain how bad it was in there eyes
Are they going to continue to do this for the rest of there lives? 10 years on still complaining how bad the suit was? that singer is a joke? pretty sure you need to accept that you either loved or hated the film and move on with your life...thats if you have one
And i bet 75% of SR haters own the film

I have to say downwithrouth made some good points about SR but sure I still love the movie! However, I don't respect his opinions on casting decisions. When it comes to Superhero's, casting a known actor is a bigger risk than casting an unknown. People see the actor and not the character and that totally detracts from the movie. Saying "isn't that the guy from..." is retarded. What has that good to do with how good a film does and if the actor is good in the role. If I saw Freddie Prince JR as Superman I wouldn't say "He isn't that the guy from She's All That"? When I see a Tom Cruise movie I never see the character which is why I hate him. Saying Brad Pitt would be a great Superman is an insult. The guy is great sure, but he doesn't even look like Superman. You are basing opinions on your favourite actors and not who is better suited to the role by comparison. Reeve looked like he walked out of a comic book. So too did Routh. Reeve was a trained stage actor which and from my experience is much more difficult to do than on camera. (I was in a short in college and did many plays). So is a track record how many good movies they have behind them or how great there acting experience is? heck most movies and I say most are good not because of the actor cast but because of the story, writers and director and little to do with the actor. Christy Brown in My Left Foot would have been a great movie with an unknown instead of Daniel Day Lewis although Lewis was excellent. Same goes with Tim Robbins in Shawshank. You are talking about a box office draw. What about Will Smith? He has a great track record so would he be a great Superman? No! IMO an actor can be either talented by nature or trained to be an actor. Reeve and Routh had both.

I know an SR hater that watches the movie repeatedly just to hate on it. I personally think he's a closet SR lover.

Wow! ;D An Excellent posts, Conor and Shane IMO, the best actor to ever have donned the cape so far it's George Reeves. But I still prefer Reeve and Routh easily. They gave/give me things that George never did in the role. And they are more handsome too.

actually , i will concede some missed oppurtunities for SR, in fact - at about the time SR came out kurt busiek used a very similar plot : - superman had been missing for a year ( he was powerless and happily " retired " and living exclusively as clark ) - lex luthor got ahold of krypton crystals - lex used them to create actual weopons and superman had to really struggle to defeat the ships and giant exo-skeleton that luthor had made - ( there was even a referance to a stamp-like dru-zod - presumably an ancestor to donnerverse zod ) i remember thinking that it would have been an awesome way to develop SR .

Not the character but the Reeve films!!! In honor of MLK Jr. day I'm gonna take it upon myself to say how racist Reeve's films are. W/O further ado... STM: 1.)There's no blacks on krypton!! The krypton people are supposed to be an advanced civilization of great knowledge, so why not a single black person on the planet??? I guess their trying to tell us that blacks aren't enlightened enough.... And what color is Krypton..... WHITE!!!!!! 2.) In smallville, there's no blacks on the football team! WT(mutha)F I mean come on!!!!! I mean they could at least thrown in one black dude for good measure but it's dumb that they're trying to say that only white people are good at football. I mean I can understand about the white coach and QB but they're no all white football team in America I'll tell ya! Maybe Smallville was Jim Crow back then or something..... 3.) When Superman first changes there is this black pimp who says "hi" to him. Superman doesn't give this pimp the time of day!! He just shruggs him off w/ an excuse me and flies away. I think he's being rude to the pimp cause he's black!!!!! 4.) Notice how Clark at the Daily Planet NEVER ONCE says anything to that black dude... SII 1.) Speaking of that black dude at the Daily Planet. He says Morning Lois! and Lois just shruggs him off with a "uhhhhh... yeah hi." SHE DOESN'T EVEN LOOK UP FROM HER NEWSPAPER!!!!!!!!! She is a racist oaf!!! 2.) In the SII battle we only see two black kids who say "hug SUperman DID'NT EVEN DO NUTIN!!!!! his couzin says "Let's go bro" I mean talk about being obvious where you stick your token black people in the film!!! I'll bet you this part could be cut and there be no chaNGE TO THE STORY!!!!! An innificient attempt at being PC 3.) When Clark get's the pants beat off him:: why do those black guys just look at him with their mouths hanging open? Was Lester (dude who directed that particular scene) trying to say that blacks are not altruistic? SIII. 1.) To make up for the lack of dramatic scenes w/ black people in SII they gave the whole picture to a black man!!! A little over reaction here but okay in my book. BUT they make him a welfare - bum who smokes like a chimenny and steals money!!! Are they saying that all black people hang out in unemployment lines and are BUMS??? FOR SHAME!!!! Anyway they obviously made Gus Gorman the "magic negro" who waltzes into the story and saves the day, and then is on his merry way. I think using the MAGIC NEGRO as a plot device is RACIST!!! SIV 1.) Uhh. why is Nuclear Man white?? He was born from the sun he better have a better tan than that!!! We got a effeminate white guy with BLONDE TEASED HAIR!!! WTF I mean if there ever was a role to be filled with a black guy this was it!!! Uhhhhh..... so let down by pillow's whitness HE SHOULDA BEEN A BROTHER cause the sun would made him at least mullatto! SR Actually not racist at all. In conclusion I think the Reeve Superman films are racist and I'll never watch the again! Or, uhhhh... I just won't watch them on MLK day.......... or Obama's inaugration......... or black history month.............
