Is this movie going to actually be good? I have a sinking suspicion it’s going to be derivative of Reeves existing 2 books.
Think about it: Reeve was only paralyzed for 9 years and he’s been gone for the last 20 years.
How much more material can they dig up on the man that hasn’t already been said a million times?
Fact is: Reeve constantly said that the cure was only 2-3 years away or at most 5-7 years away. Well Reeve had his accident 30 years ago and still there has been no cures.
We don’t need another derivative schmaltzy film that will make us realize “Oh gee.. I guess Reeve really did turn out to be Superman.”
Instead we need hard answers: WHY is there still no cure for paralysis? What is the hold up? If paralysis can be cured in rats it can be cured in humans, the scientists better get off their lazy asses and actually get to work and start curing people.
They test all the time on rats and the rats were cured so they need to start doing those same tests on humans NOW. There’s no ethical dilemma on testing on humans … the subjects are paralyzed anyway so just start experimenting on them until something works!

Saw it tonight--- there's not necessarily any real information that's 'new' that anyone here would be suprised by- but- (1) how everything is put together - the editing and the structure of how its put together is really smooth - and - (2) the core is having the story mostly framed from the personal stories from/by Reeve's three kids. Was not disappointed! Highly Recommended!

That's what I thought... nothing new would be revealed.
It's because Reeve has been gone for 20 years... there' no new material.
There were 2 tidbits of new information in the book Somewhere in heaven, but they were unflattering of Reeve so they won't be in the film.

It sounds like from what you’re saying a lot of the behind the scenes and personal footage is new. Just judging by the trailers alone I’ve never seen some of it. It also sounds like some of the opinions from his family and friends are new to the public as well. I guess some people just aren’t looking at this documentary in a more well rounded deep enough way to understand that. Even recently there are still things new to the fans that have come out about Chris Reeve even if they are minuscule personal details. Just because some of information in this documentary is known to some doesn’t mean it’s known to all. Especially the casual audience they’re trying to get interested in watching it.

Does the documentary at least reveal who the Reeve Only People of 2013 were?

Just because some of information in this documentary is known to some doesn’t mean it’s known to all. Especially the casual audience they’re trying to get interested in watching it. That's true- I think for most non-obsessive Superman/Reeve fans, a lot of the info is new... but it's how the filmmakers packaged the timelines (jumping back and forth from a compressed version of his life/ alongside with the life 'right after the accident' with Superman movie clips throughout) that was really impressive. The juxtaposition made me feel like there wasn't a missed beat anywhere or any parts that would have made me want to speed up (like a portion of the documentary "Val" did). And- the movie isn't totally flattering on Reeve's behavior or life, but at the same time, it's a fair enough balance- showing he was a human being- but it wasn't a bashing piece, like most of the documentaries shown on MAX does (plus what's the point?). The mission statement of giving an overall sense to who Reeve was and how his second life from the accident on had a snowball effect was on-target. It could have been an hour longer easily, but as is, it's very tight and an interesting experience, coming from someone who was already familiar with a lot. And, again, it's true.... having the kids talk from personal experience about their dad is a million times more powerful than stated facts from a 3rd party or report.

Saw it a second time- this time, it turned out that (suprisingly) my AMC membership DOES cover some Fathom events (which are $20+) - yea!
I was actually hesitant to go a second time, thinking, "Well, I did get all the info from the first time".... but then forgot HOW well it was put together with the new interviews (and support from) Reeve's kids.
Whoever edited the documentary definitely needs to be nominated for an Academy Award- I'll put it this way:
I've seen/suffered through 'documentaries' that were just cobbled together youtube videos (for the most part) and felt like 'eh, been there, done that'---
But the CHOICES that the director and editor made- plus little moments and antedotes that the interviews shared made it all feel fresh.
I did forget (and probably didnt' mention) tearing up several times through the doc.
In a similar way, there was a docuseries that had an episode focusing on Bruce Jenner's journey that was put together in such a way that even though we all knew he become an Olympic champion- the context of the way that the episode was all stitched together, what information to include and what pieces not to include- had me glued to the episode even knowing the outcome.
Similarly, the same is here- a poor filmmaker or editor would have made everything feel like yesterday's news, but instead it uses its time wisely to touch upon many aspects of Reeve's life- including imperfections - and easily (Imo) been another hour or so.
Will give a more detailed review later, but I've just read it's getting a wide release in October. Worth catching!!!

The MoS Bullies of 2013 are probably angry that there's no documentary about Cavill

Glad he got to a little bit more with the Crisis tv show- but.... he's still got a few years left to play Superman- hopefully they give him another chance to at least play Supes from Earth-2 or whatnot in Gunn's universe...
