Can you imagine if Michael Thau asked Reeves children for the opportunity to make this film? Knowing Thau he would try to make the horse CGI (because the horse is the villain) and then end the film with the world spinning backwards to before Reeves accident.

I can imagine Thau pitching this idea and his kids politely but firmly showing him the door.

Following a much talked about Sundance Film Festival premiere, Warner Bros. Discovery has finalised a deal to acquire the documentary “Super/Man” about the life of Christopher Reeve.

The pact is for global rights to the feature and is said to be in the $14-15 million range, unsurprisingly one of the biggest sales of the festival’s 40th edition. Warners beat out both Netflix and Neon for the rights.

The sale brings the film somewhat home as Warners is where Reeve experienced his greatest commercial success leading four “Superman” movies.

Should the deal be completed, it’s expected the film will score some kind of theatrical distribution under the DC Studios banner before ending up on the company’s Max streaming service at some point.

Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui (“McQueen”) directed the film which follows Reeve’s rise to superstardom as the character and his fight to find a cure for spinal cord injuries after he became a quadriplegic following a horse riding accident.

It’s not the only Sundance doco to score a deal today either as Netflix has scored the title “Skywalkers: A Love Story” which focuses on the boundary-pushing couple Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus from Moscow.

Jeff Zimbalist and Maria Bukhonina co-direct the film about the two climbers scaled some of the some of the world’s highest skyscrapers and shared intimate photos with their millions of followers on social media.

Sundance wraps this weekend with the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury prize having gone to Alessandra Lacorazza’s “In the Summers” whilst the audiece award went to Sean Wang’s “Didi”.

Are they going to hire Mr. Thau to work on the final edit?

I heard Thau can't find the footage of Reeve falling off the horse so he'll improvise and use this test footage.

Hard to believe that it's been 20 years since the man left us.

Also weird to realize that he was only disabled for 9 years before passing.... not really long at all.
