From the Supermanhomepage... May 28, 2011: Tom Welling and the Superman Suit "Smallville" Executive Producers Kelly Souders and Brain Peterson spoke with HollywoodReporter.com in the aftermath of the series finale of the 10 season TV series, and got an insight into why we never really saw Tom Welling in the Superman costume. "What we wanted to do all along was show hints at where he was going because that is a whole different story that is yet to be told," Peterson told THR. "It felt like it gave just enough without starting to tell a whole different story that is left for all the other media.' Peterson, who penned Part 2 of the finale with Souders, noted that the series has always been about Clark becoming the hero from the famed mythos and that the adventures of Superman were stories that have been -- and will continue to be told -- via other avenues, including Christopher Nolan's upcoming Man of Steel, set for next year. "[Showing Tom in the full suit] to me is just not super relevant and not what we were trying to do," he said.
"We were actually thrilled that everybody came together and was on board with the shots that we specifically picked," he added.
"We all wanted it to be the end of Clark Kent's journey because it's a show about Clark Kent," he said. "In the days when we saw him in a flannel shirt, the suit was the furthest thing from his mind."

Ok I can understand their aim was to make sure the show was about Clark Kent..but surely his transition into superman doesn't make him a new person, he's still clark wearing the suit, but the one who works at the daily planet has now become the persona.. one shot of tom in the suit was that too much to ask.

The funny things is ... why are they justifying Welling's non-suit appearance even after the series has ended? They scared it may affect DVD sales?
To be honest I had thought of buying Season 10 only (they'll release it eventually) had there been an hour or 45 minutes of Supes action. But now that we know there's none of that I wouldn't want to get it.
Didn't WB execs know that we fans stuck it out till the end simply because we thought we may finally get to see some all out Supes action & not because of the story or that it's such a great series? By season 5 Smallville has lost me

Just watched the majority of it on youtube, judging by the comments beforehand I was a bit wary but I found it actually pretty good. Some chessy dialogue from Terrance Stamp but I found the ending quite acceptable even if you don't see a close up of Clark with the suit. The scene with Lex was great.

I agree. Just excuses, and everybody knows it, but some just can't accept it openly, imo.

I think they know it. Finally sank in into them after fans' feedback, but yet just don't want to accept it

Former Smallville Star, Sam Jones III has been sentenced in federal court to one year in prison after he recently pled guilty to conspiracy to sell more than 10,000 pills of Oxycodone.
TMZ reports that, prior to sentencing, Jones allegedly begged the judge for mercy; explaining that he had lost everything including his dog, his car, and his acting gig on "Blue Mountain State" due to the drug charges.
As a result, the judge showed Jones leniency and indicated he was cutting the actor a break because of his minor role in the drug deal.
This prompted Sam to hit up his Twitter feed yesterday. He Tweeted, "Just got out of court! God is Great!! #FAITH!!!"
According to E! News, once Jones serves his one year jail term he will then have three years of supervised probation.
Once it's determined which prison Jones will be calling home for the next year, he will have to surrender to authorities.

Hopefully he gets his shite together. I have a little more sympathy for him, than someone like Charlie Sheen, who was born with a golden Hollywood spoon in his mouth.

If he was bothered about God, he wouldn't be a common drug dealer in the first place, the stupid black bastard. Scum like him deserve more time.

I quite enjoyed the finale, though I agree that the series dragged on for far too long. The show was a victim of its own success, in that it was apparently making too much money to wrap up after a reasonable run of 5 years or so.
Not showing Welling in the full suit didn't bother me in the least. The bit of shirt and cape we did see, and the CGI long shots, was payoff enough for me. By the end of season 10, there were far more problems with the stories worth noting than quibbling about the lack of a 10 second shot of Welling in the suit, IMO.
I'm just pleased that they were able to tie up as many loose ends as they did. If I want to see what happens after that, I'll just load S:TMP into the DVD player or wait for the Snyder film (with fingers crossed).

So, I began the Smallville project this week. Four episodes down, 214 more to go.
I still need to buy the last two seasons. Hopefully, Best Buy will have them on sale by the time I get through the first eight seasons.

Sweet. But I guess I should still time this so that I don't run out weeks before the final season is released.

This pic clearly shows how Welling never pulled off the Clark Kent look with the glasses, IMO. He doesn't blend in at all like the rest of the actors who have played the role. His facial features (mainly lips and nose) are too noticeable. I just never liked his look for this role. I'm glad he never played him on the big screen. So far, because with how crazy WB is, well who knows.

Though I liked Welling for what the producers wanted in Smallville, he's just not a good actor. Ever see him in The Fog? Terrible. He better hope there are some Smallville TV movies in the works or find better producing gigs than the cancelled heckcats.

Welling's as good an actor as Routh is.
