I don't want it both ways. I didn't want it either way. I just wanted to watch it and see what happens. It's Smallville. I never expected brilliance or something to happen that unites all us fans. I can understand and respect and also like what they did with the finale while at the same time acknowledging its shortcomings. It was, indeed, never about the suit, it is unfortunate that they didn't show it particularly for those who really needed/wanted it, but I still liked what they did. That's allowed, yeah?
I CAN step out of my own opinion, y'know. Such a thing IS possible.

This is actually very similar to the finale of L O S T.
The show wasn't about the island, it was about the people, but viewers wanted answers about the island in the finale.
Different strokes, y'know. Life...she goes on.

You want to watch Superman in the suit, there's enough media out there.

The main thing that gripes me most about not seeing Tom in the suit is that you just know it wasn't an artistic choice...it had to be either ego or meddling.
Had the show have ended without all the Darkseid stuff and just had the scene in the fortress with Clark and Jor-El I would have been fine with it. End it in the future with a shirt rip? No problem. It would have been true to it's original "no tights, not flights" mantra. But they didn't do that...

Fun little factoid:
Christopher Reeve played Superman from ages 24 to 34.
Tom Welling played Young Clark Kent from ages 24 to 34.

Saw those clips with him "in the costume." Funny how they don't show his body when he is supposedly wearing it... they tried to avoid it at all costs. ;D it's so ridiculous it's hilarious, imo! Wow, Reeve definitely looked so much more older than Welling! Welling was playing a teen when he was already an adult! ;D

Exactly my thoughts. The showrunners should expect bitching and complaining till the end of days on the internet over this---- and I don't blame those that do.
It was a simple thing they could have given the fans, and instead, it was a middle finger to them as they took the money and ran.

LOST was a letdown because the PEOPLE were only human and we'd like to see what becomes of them - butthe whole thing is anchored by the island and it's just a HUGE red herring. let down. a possible quasi-plausible scientific time-warp multi-verse premise is dismissed as a new-age spiritual tract. SUCK. smallville? heres why superman is superman. (in a half baked ad nauseum way) you actually want superman? f*ck off.

Star, if that was Routh in that animated gif, you'd LOVE it and you know you would.

On a slightly unrelated note: Read that WB has cancelled Welling's critically bashed "heckcats" show- same time as WB's Smallville is finished- wonder if they kept it on to keep Welling happy while doing 'Smallville', and now that 'Smallville' is over......

What did Welling have to do with that travesty? I never watched it but going from the commercials, holy SHIT, it looked bad.

There is one thing that Smallville did that SR didn't. They cgi'd the S logo on the cape lol. Didn't they say in SR it would be too hard to do the S logo in cgi?
Oh and the colors are brighter. lol.. sorry had to say it.
Smallville finale.. what to say about it.
I loved it, but was disappointed at the same time. I was expecting just a little bit more of a payoff with the fight with Darksied. Not just flying through him and pushing Apokolips away. The cgi Superman wasn't bad, specially for a TV budget. It was cool to see Superman flying around. Wish it would have lasted a little longer though.
The Superman moments were good, I was smiling and was enjoying it. I guess I was just hoping for something that prolly wasn't going to happen in the first place. After 10 years of teasing and dragging out the show for 10 years, I just figured the payoff would have been a little bigger and more of a "Holy Shit" factor, and more of Welling in the suit.
But I'm glad we got what we did, and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Just expected a little more than what we got, specially after waiting 10 years for it.
Schnider = awesome John Kent Rosenbaum = Awesome Lex, hands down! Was so glad he came back. Wish he wasn't gone for so long in the first place.. the show suffered some when he left. Durance = Hands down best Lois ever. Specially the whole AF1 scenes and at the end. Good to see Jimmy (the real one I hope) and hear Perry in the background.
Clarks shirt rip... the slow motion was dragged out a little to much for me.. the shirt rip he had in the Booster gold episode in the phone booth was a little more epic I thought. Loved hearing Williams music.
Even as I write this, I liked the finale a lot, but I didn't at the same time. Just depends on my mood I guess. I need to watch it a couple more times.

Just saw the finale. It was ok, some really nice moments here and there, especially when he FINALLY embraces his destiny and the supersuit appears (SR suit FTW!). Loved the score in that scene. But it could have been SO much better with a better plot and more intensity. A lot of the time it seemed like they were going through the motions, and they wasted so much time in the will-they-won't-they-get-married the first hour. Superman was almost like an afterthought. Also Lex losing his memory was just dumb. So he's now evil... but why? All that great character development in his character lost due to poor/lazy writing. Saw this on tumblr.com:

I'm mesmerized by the flying button on the Routh GIF. It's on his left side.

Agreed, Premise: A pre-law student wins a spot on her Memphis university's fiercely competitive cheering squad when she loses her scholarship and joins the team in order to collect the scholarship that comes with being a heckcat. Executive producer: Tom Welling Supposedly, this was Welling's baby. (Schneider even referred to it at Comicon when Welling was on the same Smallville Panel) But....yeah. The guy might be a great guy in person, but even the other Smallville cast members on the panel seemed pretty quiet when that show was mentioned.

Saw this on tumblr.com: I wonder if whoever was doing that was ranking them. Cuz I'd argue that the shirt rips go from best to worst, top to bottom. But then, Cain's S was always so goofy. ;D Routh's would have worked better if he were actually wearing his suit. It's not that it was replaced with CGI, it's that this specific shot was meant to show off his bare chest. Notice how the S is nearly cropped out of the frame in SR while in the rest, the S is completely in the frame, and the camera even lingers on it. You can't make a cool character moment in post-production.

I didn't know Routh'c shirt rip was CGI.
Why would they do that?

I didn't know Routh'c shirt rip was CGI. Why would they do that? It was to take out a deleted scene. Originally, he did not have his suit on. He rips his shirt open to expose his bare chest, realizing that he forgot it. He then speeds back to the DP closet where his stuff is, and then changes into the suit. Then he contemplates if he really should be Superman.....all while a few dozen people are minutes from death.

What comes to my mind while watching this: Reeve Superman: Eh, piece of cake. Here I come Lois, here is your Superman. Cain Superman: I'm so mad I can jump like a rabbit! Welling Superman: In slow mo, yo. Routh Superman: Holy shit, Lois is in trouble!

I watched the finale in its entirety today. I love it more know than before. As much as I love SR, I feel Welling's shirt rip had more oomph to it. Welling's shirt rip was partial CGI, you can actully see the \S/ under his white shirt in HD. Nothing beats Reeve's shirt rip, not to mention the music and the editing was just right and it made the shirt rip epic.
