the v1 joker only comes with one (not a very good likeness, but pretty cool anyway). the bank robbert one comes with 2, so that you can replace your purple-suited one's head. the pics i posted above are hong's repaint, but he is the production supervisor at hot toys, and says that the final version will be expected to be at the same quality as his.

meh. i hope they stick with the original. the extra detail on the paint job is nice, but changing the position of the eyes and making mascara tear drops is pointless and makes the face look much much less sinister. now he just looks sad and confused. quote] I preordered both Joker figures. nah... looks more like a paint variant. 2nd pic show more red to imply fresh rather than burnt flesh.

Still not feeling it no statue . unless its bronze. should be a poseable figure- with cloth costume . the display stand should have a chip that plays the theme.

The 3/4 profile looks terrible. The from below shot looks pretty good. The hands and feet look to big.
Reeve's got a really difficult face to capture. Its not as easy as some would think. I think it may have something to do with the symmetry of his face. Its so smooth and not necessarily bland but "clean" and even. Too perfect in a lot of ways.
He doesn't have that overboard Karl Malden/Jimmy Durante character or defining feature in his face where its easy to capture or exaggerate. I think even Reeve himself said he was glad to get a bit older and get some character in his face.

Hot toys caters specifically to a high end market though. DC direct is much more across the board in terms or product.
lets not forget the difference in some of the materials used. The plastic is going to make a difference.
Part of the problem with the Reeve figure is the sculptor but maybe it looks that way on purpose...like an in house semi exaggerated style. The Lynda Carter statue had a lot of the same issues IMO.

Comparing the Carter statue to Reeve's statue.. Carter's statue looks much more like her than Reeve's statue looks like him.
DC could have done a lot better with the Superman statue though, don't matter what the material is.. and no \S/ on the cape?, that's just wrong.

The Lynda Carter statue is as much off as the Reeve one is. She looks way too old for one thing. The hair is wrong. I see what they were going for but its off. The build is also too sinewy. They went to far in the bodybuilder/fitness model direction.
They could have done better but the materials are going to make a difference. DC direct is selling to a slighter wider market I'd imagine. Hot Toys will put more time in because they know they have a more dedicated group of buyers that will pay more The key thing for people like Hot toys is the detail and the accuracy. Its THE selling point for their product. For a company like DC direct is a factor but not the only factor.
Its seems to me they are simply going for a slightly exaggerated style something like a cross between real people and Alex Ross.

Hey Supes78 and Supernoldy, thanks for the pics they're great. Have they listened to the initial criticism and applied the yellow S shield to the cape?
I actually started a thread on the DC direct forums begging for them to correct this flaw. I'm hoping Hot toys get a shot at an STM line and get it right.

The body looks disporportioned. They should have used the STM \S/ for the base.

The Lynda Carter statue had a lot of the same issues IMO. If DC is intending to reach a more mainstream audience and not just the collectors, then their pricing strategy needs to be changed. I mean, this Reeve statue costs $200! Today's buyer, regardless of casual or collector, wants a bargain and quality. Instead, DC Direct offers high price and marginal quality. When you compare what other companies like Hot Toys, Takara, and Bowen Statues are putting out for around the same price, DC's offerings look like children's toys with high end collector prices. For instance. DC just unveiled their generic looking 13" WW figure with a price tag of $100 and the only accessory is a lasso! Meanwhile, Takara Toys issued a 12" Batman Begins figure with vastly superior articulation, sculpt, and accessories including a Bruce Wayne head for around $150. My money would go to Takara without a second thought and I'm only a casual buyer.

The Christopher Reeve statue is going for about $135.00 on ebay.

+$25 for shipping. Either way, $200 is DC's set retail price.
