That probably has something to do with a lot of factors like production run, the general economy and WB/TW being a bigger company that feel their product should elicit a higher price. not saying its right but its nothing new.
Neither is Mainstream but i would thing DC direct is more so than a company like Hot Toys because they are directly under the DC banner and have the marketing behind them.
Like i said its still just a SMALL part of a larger release of products by DC Direct. its not like its an entire line...its one specific product. That price might be to offset the cost production that could be going to other products like the regular figure lines.
They make a ton of stuff and its all DC related unlike Hot Toys which makes a wider variety of products. I would say vote with your wallet and don't buy it.

Thats a good point, only issue is by not purchasing the Reeve statue it may impact Hot Toys willingness to invest in developing a full STM line.
If Hot Toys observe positive sales they'll have greater confidence that a proper STM line will generate good ROI.
Kinda like Selutrons efforts, you can bet Warners decided to walk away from a proposed revisit based purely on poor sales of the Donner cut stand alone DVD. We all wanted a more impressive product...talking with our wallets however determined our long term fate.

DC Direct consistently overcharges for everything and the quality is almost never what the price would lead one to expect. Check out their message boards sometime to read people's complaints. I had hoped that they would really step it up for Reeve's statue, but instead offered up another sub par effort. I still plan to buy it simply because of my fan boy dedication (which DC banks on everytime) and my desire to spur on future STM products, preferably by Hot Toys or Takara.

You're paying for that brand name more than anything. They think because they're brand is on it direct from a TW/DC company they can recoup some of those costs. And don't forget a lot of the Dc Direct stuff isn't found at major retailers. Even though you'd think the direct to consumer method of online buying would make it cheaper they probably aren't producing as much as a big company that sells to target or Wal-mart. Its about the bottom line as far as prices.
Like i said i would stop buying from them when it comes to specialty products like this. Some company WILL know that the interest is there...even if its for a small run for a niche market. Look at Hot Toy. never thought I'd see Highlander stuff from them because the fan base is so small compared to other franchises but it happened. Just let them know you WANT it.
|If you want a better Reeve statue don't buy the DC one and write a better company like crazy. petition. "Do what you got to do" to quote George Washington Duke!

Sebas, is there anything you can't do? Genius. What I can do? I dont know, the statue is done and Dc comics is a very close circule, they dont want new and better people working for them. They just want product and sale them, nothing more, the are not worry about quality. If you go to Dc comics page and read the Searching talents section, the conditions that they put to any one who like to send or show material, is almost a joke, I don´t undestand why they say that are interesting on new artist if is clear wen you read the onditions that they are not. Even they say that you go to a comics convention and you can talk with the editors and show your material, that is not true. I go to the Comics Convention of San Diego in 2005, and I try to talk with one of them and show my material, and that editor say that he can´t see my material, but I come from another coutry to be here and show my material, please made an eseption, but nothing. All what you can do is to put your material in a mail box that they have there and nothig more. I don´t bay nothing more from Dc comics, i dont like what they do and the politics they have this days. Now, they make a Christopher Reeve Superman statue and they do it bad, so... nobody should bay them this bad product.

Amazing work Sebastian. Who would have thought that subtle tweaks would make such a big difference. It's a mixed bag for fans who choose not to buy this because it's taken 30 years to get DC to put this out. I can't help bit think that poor sales will stifle any future STM releases by any company.

Tell me about it. The Hot Toys' sculptors impress me more with each new figure. Those pics could easily pass for the real Arnold.

Uhhh... I got mine from a comic shop that was done by a bay area artist, who also sold them mini-statues of Flash, the Phantom, etc. I don't know if he made a mold of that statue and/or has more. (I've asked the shop owner, but he inherited the shop and statues, and has no clue).
But then again, I was suprised to see other 12' statues of Reeve as Supes on the net on the other forum listed. So.... who knows how many unofficial statues there are out there?
(*Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help much other than that it was a bay area artist and that he sold to comic shops))

Yeah, that's a good board. Very polite, creative people who have way too much money to spend on toys.
