Can you imagine an AI scene of the finished blank bullets scene? Villains ruling the world? The X- Rated sex scene?? The Metro Battle? The technology is just about here to re-create the finished Donner SII. I computer can download all the existing Reeve and Kidder footage and Manks SII script and perfectly re-create the SII we would have gotten had Donner not been fired. Selutron is outdated and irrelevant human being now and his “great” rotoscoping skills are worthless. He should look into a new career panhandling outside a gas station in Alaska. When will the completed AI Donner Superman 2 be released?? While I'm horrified at the explosion of AI--- I admit I have been thinking about that possibility of filling in the blanks of Donner's SII- ever since face replacement software existed. Impossible that the studio would do this- but I could see an ambitious fan cutter with AI skills tackling this...

Ehhh.... feels a little weird (for me) to refer to Kidder's being forced to wear Lester's hairpiece as 'rat-Lois' after Kidder's passing.... maybe it's just me, but still feels a little too soon. (And even so, not Kidder's fault to have to wear that awful hairpiece that deserved its own agent)..

Happy holiday/xmas/whatever to all! Haven't posted in awhile... Random thought to put up a movie title game- Dunno if it'll be met with tumbleweeds or if anyone will jump in (but that's like all posts.. ) So- Idea is: Replace any current or old movie title... but include or replace the movie title with the word: "ZOD." (and can add the movie blurb as well optional) I'll start- NEW MOVIES: "Anyone but Zod"- new movie with Sydney Sweeney. Rom com with her character and Zod. "Godzilla plus Zod"- Japanese film with critical raves... with Zod as the tortured Kamikaze pilot who must find redemption. "The Iron Zod"- Based on a true story. About how Zod tried to raise a family of wrestlers with his famous move- 'the Iron Zod' to try to get fame and glory. (Oscar contender this year). "Zods in the Boat"- A George Clooney period film about 4 Zods trying to win a boat race in WWII. Yes, a stupid game. Fun? Debatable.

Really like Sean Gunn in some parts.... But... Not what I pictured for Maxwell Lord. Can't he play something else in Superman? Depends on what they do with Lord so while it might not be the comic it might fit what James Gunn is doing. Pedro Pascall didn’t really fit Lord either. Have any of the actors that played him? Jay Baruchel certainly didn’t when he was cast for George Millers JLA movie. The good/bad is that - with so much time passing from the version of Superman and JLA I would have loved to have seen from the comics.... I'm mainly curious on whether or not Gunn's version can get me to sit up and really notice- we've had bits and pieces that were nice on Superman post-Donner's version.... that I hope that Gunn's version is so exciting that it challenges Donner's version as a new 'best version ever' of Superman... for me. I think there's some truth to the fact that while I'm open to a new version--- there's going to be part that wants to stay with the classic or compare with the classic Donner Superman version. But--- based on what GUnn's been saying- it's very possible it stays in the same vein. I do think it's a little odd that other superheroes will also be present in the movie, but - again, just hoping it blows me away.

Placing bets for 'fun'.... I personally hope that the Gunn-verse and a revamped MCU bring in a fresh era-
Though.... if the MCU lasted 20 years of uninterrupted box office success... even 10 years based on how many interconnected films they had is something- let alone 20--- that's still darned impressive...
On the flip side- Not many studios can (or want) to sustain $200 million dollar (plus marketing) losses- and I'm assuming EVERY one of these was in the $200 range for the budget-
DC side: * Flash (which I mostly loved)- $270 million worldwide- $100 domestic * Blue Beetle (which was ok)--- $129 million worldwide- $72 domestic * Shazam 2 (good, but meh)----- $133 million worldwide- $57 domestic * Black Adam (eh,JLA bits nice) $393 million worldwide- $168 domestic
Bizzare that the failure of Black Adam actually grossed the most-
MCU side: * Black Widow------------------ $379 million worldwide- $183 domestic * Eternals--------------------- $402 million worldwide- $164 * Shang Chi-------------------- $432 million worldwide- $224 * Ant man 3-------------------- $476 million worldwide- $214 * Marvels---------------------- $202 million worldwide- $83
The ones that were attached (creatively) to Endgame-or-wrapping up series-
* GOTG 3 ---------------------- $845 million worldwide- $358 * Dr. Strange 2---------------- $955 million worldwide- $411 * Spiderman: No Way Home------- $1,921 million worldwide- $814
* Endgame--------------------- $2,799 mil worldwide/ $858 domestic * Infinity War---------------- $2,052 worldwide/ $678 domestic * Captain Marvel-------------- $1,132 mil worldwide/ $426 domestic * Cap America-Civil War ------ $1,155 worldwide/ $408 domestic
It's not the full sampling... but- in even a quick glance- Marvel (overall) still does better than DC- but.... should Marvel slash their budgets in half and keep going? Or what thoughts can be derived from looking at this?
(It's all speculation, but) And just to check for past DC...
* Superman Returns--- $391 mil worldwide/ $200 domestic * Dark Knight-------$1,029 mil worldwide/ $534 domestic

Funny you should post this since I was just thinking about Woman of Tomorrow and what they could do with it, who could direct, etc. Gunn is making some interesting choices for directors of some DC films. I’d really like to see someone with a lot of creative vision get this one. As for Sweeney I wouldn’t be against her. This is the kind of role where they could and should do an open cattle call type of process. It could be a fresh young faces big break the way it was with Slater. I kind of wonder how young they're planning... but.... right now, it's wondering if the superhero box office will come back big or not in the next couple of years. Question might be moot on Supergirl casting after all if the superhero movies don't bring in big box office again...

Nathan Fillon as Guy Gardner? Oh, yeah- that works!
Suprised on Eve Teschmacher... hm... so- does that mean Lex/Eve will be comedy relief of sorts, like the DOnner version???
So many questions...

You were right- Kamala stood out. The rest was a mess, terrible.
Echo hopefully is good. Will see...
It's just sad that the push for rushing so much resulted in such disappointing tv shows and taint the Marvel brand so much.

As the story of the MCU's continued highs and lows (and potential unplugging if things don't get better soon)- go on....
It takes me back to the two moments of time where Donnerverse DC universes could have happened-
Once, if Donner hadn't been let go and (if he were interested) Donner/Mank might have helped bring in the Marvel universe back then.
With Donner/Mank's insistence on trying to stay close to source material, even if it didn't have the fx tech to do everything, then the focus would have been more of the heart of the characters than the fx- much like how Donner/Mank felt like the love story of Supes/Lois/Clark was at the core of STM/SII working.
A second time could have happened with Singer's Superman Returns, where he intentionally brought in (sorta) the Donnerverse -or- a version of.
Sadly, Singer's apparent movie ADD (constantly jumping on/off projects) helped SR 2 NOT happen.... but one wonders if he had been asked/interested, if he would have been 'Zack Snyder' in a way and been allowed to create the DC universe then.
Well... Now, it'll be interesting to see the Gunn-verse, and how much feels like what a Donnerverse might have felt like...

Sad since we’re finally in an era where he could see some of his stuff adapted and adapted well for tv, film and animation. I’ve enjoyed seeing some of the older talent finally get some recognition from the mainstream after their work is adapted. It's weird knowing that I grew up in a time where you'd just be THRILLED if there was any cartoon or live action that even REMOTELY resembled the comics- to having a time where even I couldn't (and still can't) keepup with all the material- live action or cartoon.... At the same time- Most of the stuff is so arbitrarily done and mostly mediocre (but then most of comics is the same way)- that I'm not as thrilled as I would have liked to be... On the other hand, you're right- the plus side to so many things being done in animation and live action- that even if the MCU tanks/ DC movies tank.... there's still other areas of comic adaptation being done so big at this point, that there's a bigger percentage of 'the old creators' stuff being done- and definitely agree it's nice if they get the recognition.

One thing I'm having less faith in: The audience turning up for any superhero film, good or bad. To me- the combo of TOO many meh tv shows/movies all at once (it seems) for the last several years finally created the 'superhero fatigue' among mainstream audiences I think. For fans- I'll see just about ANY superhero film... but that's me. I don't think most of the mainstreamers even tell THAT much of a difference between Marvel and DC but assume it's all the same at this point... and, the Marvel brand itself is no longer a 'must see' apparently for viewers. Thing is audiences have shown they are willing to show up for very good superhero movies. Across The Spider-verse and GOTG volume 3 did very well. Most of the ones that failed ranged from mediocre to awful. Between that and it being easier than ever to wait for streaming releases going to theaters has to be worth for more people these days. Shazam 2 I thought was good... but not great. Certainly deserved better box office, I thought. Flash I thought was very good/parts being great. Also, shocked (especially with Michael Keaton's Batman) that it did so poorly.

If it was just the DCEU, I think I wouldn't be as alarmed.... but having Eternals, Ant-Man 3 (and reportedly GOTG 3) also underperform box office wise-- I fear that the general public just feels no need to go to the theatres to see these superhero films anymore, but just wait for their streaming service to play them on tv later on. There are a lot of factors at play though: theaters still recovering from the affects of Covid, streaming and the end of the 90 day theatrical exclusivity window, and frankly many of those films being mediocre or not very good. The studios shot themselves in the foot. by going in so hard on pushing streaming and cutting that window in half that they trained the audience to watch a lot of this stuff at home. GOTG vol 3 did very well so it's not really comparable to the other films you mentioned. Well, I do have some hope with the suprisingly great response the Marvel "Echo" trailer is getting- and people willing to give a try, who were formerly not interested. I wonder with Antman and Marvels--- if the trailers just didn't show anything interesting enough or fresh enough as the main reason for the underwhelming box office (or projected box office).

I'm SO curious what direction Gunn will go with this... given how pleasantly suprised I was by Guardians of the Galaxy, willing to be open to what he comes up with- I HOPE to be shocked (in a good way) I’ve got faith in him. He’s been one of the few that’s consistently delivered for WB and Disney in the last few years in terms of quality. The Suicide Squad was still arguably the best film of the DCEU. despite his quirky sometimes crass style his films still have what is essential for a good Superman story: heart, relationships, depth. One thing I'm having less faith in: The audience turning up for any superhero film, good or bad. To me- the combo of TOO many meh tv shows/movies all at once (it seems) for the last several years finally created the 'superhero fatigue' among mainstream audiences I think. Heard mainly good things about the show... but I always feel like shows should end on a high note. If the budget is already being slashed, then hopefully there's a way that it doesn't compromise on the stories and characters - which are the most important to me.
Hopefully they also are able to deliver a good series ending that's satisfying. Those are rare.

Glad to read your on the mend, CAM. I watched the Slater interview. Very informative. Rosenbaums podcast is really something special. Thanks Metallo! With "Inside of You"- Agreed- I don't know how common it is now, but I was suprised how open and personal many of Rosenbaum's interviews are on his youtube show. Oftentimes, they get REALLY deep.

Superman isn’t doomed but the DCEU is. The films failure is not an indictment on Superman since the character isn’t in it very much. Public support for the DCEU simply collapsed with Black Adam though even with the much hyped return of Cavill as Superman.
