I think that the forum is smaller with (mostly) very little battling is maybe the best outcome. Plus, considering how old the original Reeve Superman films are, it's amazing that we've been able to still keep any interesting discussions going, no? The Reeve era seems as relivant as ever especially with the strong current push by WB to use Reeve to wipe the taste of the Snyderverse out of the public’s mouths to get them to move on and be ready for the more classic and traditional Superman: legacy. I'm SO curious what direction Gunn will go with this... given how pleasantly suprised I was by Guardians of the Galaxy, willing to be open to what he comes up with- I HOPE to be shocked (in a good way)

Yes I think so too. I think a Donner Batman film would have been more grounded and a little more gritty than Burton’s gothic fantasy world. I doubt it would have been as dark or gritty as what Nolan, Snyder, or Reeves ended up doing but I could see Donner pulling off a pretty good serious Bronze Age style Batman movie. Yes, agreed. Mel Gibson would have possibly been cast as Bruce Wayne. And would have done a good job. Probably- though I'm shockingly more impressed with him as a director. He might have done an interesting directing job with Batman himself! And... I actually would have been rooting for Ray Liotta at that time as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I actually could have pictured Donner doing a fantastic Batman film- and have it be like Lethal Weapon 2 tonally- which had the dark edge along with the humor... but JUST dark enough. And I feel he would have done a similar approach- with an unknown for the lead, though I never read Mank's script for Batman. (at least not yet) Yes I think so too. What I loved about STM/SII is that Mank/Donner's choices were pretty much one classic set piece after another in adapting the Superman legend- and I feel like Mank/Donner would have done the same with Batman. But- I do very much like Batman Begins- but LOVE Dark Knight as the best-ever Batman film so far, so if we couldn't have a Donner Batman, very much love TDK as "THE" Batman movie for me.

I get what Goyer is saying about his justification for killing Zod.... but.... understanding what he's saying about it doesn't mean I agree with it at all. The story with the deer scene that got cut might have helped it out- (though nothing about quipping in the middle of a devastated city and a smooch is explained)...
An earlier review Goyer said he wasn't the right guy to write Superman.... I still agree.

Jerry Ordway and John Byrne I believe said that they modelled their Superman comic art after Reeve's Superman...
I could definitely see it in Byrne, kind of with Ordway- but curious:
Who are your top Superman-Reeve comic artists?
Mine (in no order)
#1: Byrne #2: Adams (older version of Superman- Muhammed Ali vs. Superman time) @3: George Perez #4: Jim Starlin
I guess I only had 4, hm..

I do admit/know that fantasy films and material that comes at one during a certain age is given a lot of forgiveness... I ate up comic books when at a very young age, so I don't have issues with enjoying superhero films- but then again, I have no real connection to the Transformer films, which came later and it's harder for me to buy into the whole mythos that others enjoyed with growing up with it. So- when I hear fans adored Supergirl or Superman IV as their first and best films over the originals, I can kind of get why depending on exposure and age of such. If Reeve had been in Supergirl what I would he have done to the truckers in lovers lane? The original script was ok with Reeve's appearance- but compared to the fast script that tried to patch the holes that were created by Reeve's departure from the project- and the final movie... it looked like Shakespeare! If the original script was able to give Superman more depth and make it more equal, I think Reeve might have stayed. With the script as it was, it was too much of a supporting role most likely for Reeve to want to stick around for where he was at in his career. Still... with the amount of money and resources committed, if the original script was used and Reeve had stayed on, I do think it's very likely it would have made ENOUGH money (or slightly more) to have guaranteed a sequel on some level.

Thanks Dejan! She does seem very dignified- but also she doesn't seem like someone with any bitterness at the situations post-Supergirl, but appreciative of all that she got- plus, at conventions, it's interesting to see that her presence in the movie as the character was strong enough to give a lot of fans great memories of the movie.... despite the movie being overall- well, bad. But- I always looked at it with a glass half-full perspective. She's in her bandana-free classic costume and looks like the character come to live action. I love parts of the movie (the production values, Slater photographed great as Supergirl in the flying scenes and the score).... so it sits on the blu ray shelf next to Superman IV. Funny that Supergirl and Superman 4 were the first two “super” movies I saw. I was so young that in my head Superman and Supergirl fought Nuclear man together but I didn’t realize that they weren’t technically in the same movie. Welcome back CAM. Hope you are as well as you can be under the circumstances. Thanks also for the Slater link. Seems like a very dignified person. And I think she portered that dignity over to her portrayal.....which still holds up IMHO(no matter what the deficiencies of the film as a whole are). Thanks Dejan! Almost finished viewing it.... even though I've seen Helen Slater on different panels, this one really suprised me - she's always seemed candid on panels, but this one I think goes into areas that aren't usually talked about on comic panels. There's a lot on the Supergirl stuff, but even more on just her life perspectives over time. Classy person. Welcome back CAM! CAM: "Haven't you ever heard of freedom of the press?" ATP: CAM thank god (Reeve Only People look at him).... I mean GET HIM! Regarding Helen Slater...she was SUPER hot in Supergirl. And it was totally understandable why the two truckers tried to hit on her. My only complaint about the movie was why did Supergirl beat them up? They were just trying to be nice to Supergirl and one even said she won a "brass ring." Although Supergirl cruelly hurt the two innocent truckers before they could award her the prize.... Thanks crown! I thought Slater was a perfect Supergirl… but far different than Benoist’s on tv, who was great on tv.

You notice that when Superman loses his powers his “Superman self” seems to stay in the chamber and fades away while Clark emerges. I always wondered if Supermans consciousness was trapped in the Chamber and he was left there to die while a separate clone “Clark” stepped out of the chamber. Just like the movie the Prestige maybe Superman didn’t know if he would be the man trapped in the chamber or the man who walked out of it? Thoughts? I always wondered if the villains went into the chamber, if they would have emerged all wearing white shirts and black trousers, under the Lester effect.

My opinion is superior to most contemporary critics, though. With all due respect, I'll respect our differing views, but it's silly to bring in strangers to this conversation. Critics are people who are no more or less critical than us. It's not as if they're superhuman, yeh? hehe! If there were any critics who loved Superman IV back in the day.........i'll just have to kill them! Lol! By the way.... to my suprise, it DID get a good review in my local newspaper! (I didn't save it, though.) I do wonder if Reeve (or Furie) was ever aware of this...

Hmm....not sure.....possibly, now that you mention it. Just checked his resume' and he has been to Julliard.....so his acting has to be of a decent standard. Routh was a model(and his acting reflected that - sorry CAM- I know you like the guy!).....and Cavill's attraction was more for his looks....than his acting. Welling and Hoelchin are/were good TV Supermen. Caine was a good soap opera Superman(sorry- was never a fan of that show). But maybe Coranswet might be the guy to finally give Reeve a run for his money on the acting front. Why can’t they use AI technology to bring back Reeve? Flash did.... but it was hyper-stylized. Mixed on its effectiveness to the story and movie.

Come on guys......for STM.....an F bomb surely has to drop when Supes flies round the corner of that hill/mountain and discovers that Lois is dead! F************************k!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or maybe when he starts flying upwards to commence turning back the world: F******************************************************k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've always thought the flying effects as he turns around the mountain were fantastic. The way his body was tilted looked so real. And then when he straightens up with the horrified expression on his face also looks brilliant. Worshipped the movie but always felt the back projection plates in soft focus undid the reality of the shots but with everything else as an A+ it didn't matter....

Am I the only one that feels a GIANT 'Henry Cavill' vibe from Coranswet? (I liked Cavill though the writing for him was all wrong imo)
