Routh mentioned during the Q&A at the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, that he screen tested in the Mc G suit before Singer took over production. I believe this is the suit he talked about. And here's the number one fan of mechanical spiders, John Peters, with a scale model of the suit on his desk to see that the cape would have been like. I'm not a massive fan of the Returns suit, but it beats this version in my book.

That image is hideous. And what's with the blue trunks? Even the crappy CGI in the finale had the classic red.

I have to say I much prefer your review Olly, good job.
You make clear points about the different elements of the production and summarise to an overall conclusion, with your own thoughts and experience thrown in. Mike's on the other hand more of a summary of the main plot points with a few "jokes" thrown in. I wouldn't really call his a review, more like a condensed rifftrax, along the lines of what the Nostalgia Critic does but with the AVGN's taste for toilet humour.

Wow, what a Non-ce!
fracking hilarious that he says he would have to see a script and make sure the movie was done right if he was ever going to cameo in a new Superman film like Man of Steel. Then the next question is "How did you become involved in the fan film Superman Requiem?".

Very nice job here Boosh. here's my thoughts: Any chance for deleted scene before they approach fortress? I understand it's just filler, but I feel we should have Lex at least say it's Supes' home before Eve tries to correct him. Even if it's just the Hackman double saying it from the theatrical version.. I won't be using the deleted scene, but I've added the theatrical version of the double saying it's his home back in. I personally don't like Krypton elder since no other people knew what Jor-el was doing. Unless these are pre-recorded tapes from Krypton's' education systems that ALL young Kryptonians watch in school. In which case my imagination can run with it . I posted this on FE.org, but I'll re-post it here as it applies: I want the elder for two reasons. Firstly to set up the use of the crystal viewing device, which is used throughout the scene and will be used later by Superman. (new home movies scene) Secondly, because I prefer the bald elder to Brando reading the poem. It makes sense to me that when loading the ship with crystals filled with the knowledge of the 28 known galaxies, Jor-El would be copying data from different sources, the "Kryptonian Memory Bank, education crystal 308" being one of them. Also when I listen to Brando I always get reminded of the deleted part of the reading where he gets everyone cracking up by changing the words to the poem. In STM there is a deleted line about Jor-El anticipating the questions Kal-El will ask, in their order of importance to him, which makes it sound more like he made a recording based on probability than being truly interactive. The way I see it though is that the discussion he is having with Lex about the villains, he would have already had with his son, so it's just a recording of a discussion with the spirit of Jor-El that has already taken place in the fortress. Any chance to use the shot of Eve walking away? I know the bathroom joke is deleted but it may come in handy for other shots when we're viewing the villains from inside the crystal. One little nitpick is I actually don't like Eve's "kinda cute" line in reference to Zod. Only because he's the main villain and I just don't like hearing him spoken about in that tone. Eh, nitpicking.. I've added in a reaction shot of Lex when they are shown Ursa, taken from where he says, "I asked the right question". So Ursa is shown, then Lex smiles at MT, she smiles back but as as he turns away her expression changes to an unhappy one. This way when Zod is shown she is getting her own back on Lex by saying he looks cute. "echo" effect for their voices like the theatrical does hehe.. It's going to be a proper pain to do it right. Listening to the surround channels alone for the Lester version there's a lot more going on than you would think. Replicating it for the Donner stuff won't be easy or quick but I really want to keep continuity between the two versions, and the Donner stuff just sounds flat in comparison. I take it the other deleted scene is being removed because of the line "even when you lose, you win" since the scene was shot BEFORE the time-travel ending was used, and would thus cause confusion? Or do you feel it's just more padding on the runtime (or both)? I know I'm probably the only one who sticks up for Otis and Eve but I hate to lose her talk about marriage even if it's incidental to the plot. I guess I just love the line "I'll push you into something Ms. Teschmaker" lol. I'm mainly not using them because of their inconsistent quality and because they don't really add anything. Unlike the Arctic Police scene which I think is worth the effort to try and get it restored as much as possible. Hey Booshman, I don't know if this has been covered earlier in the thread, but could you give a rundown of the software you are using? Ripping, editing, sound mixing, visual effects? Thanks. Ripping: AnyDVD HD/ DVD Fab Converting M2TS to AVI: virtualdub Convert DTS-HD to wav: eac3to (yr_eac3to_more_gui) Editing: Premiere Pro CS5 Effects: After Effects CS5/ Photoshop Colour Correction: After Effects CS5 Removal of unwanted sounds/ Noise reduction: iZotope RX Convert wav to DTS-HD: DTS Master Audio Suite Misc: Audacity/ TSmuxer/Suprip/Media Subtitler/ TMPGEnc/ DVDlab Pro

Thanks. I never liked a full colour Jor El head in the Donner Cut. The only time he should appear in full colour is when he materialises to put his hand on Clark's shoulder and give his powers back. Agreed. You should check out my last edit, I did it there too.

A couple of new vids. The first is a clip that demobstrates some dialogue isolation I've had a crack at and the second, by popular demand (over on FE.org), is the removal of Otis trying to climb into the balloon after Lex. The first clip still needs some foley adding in for the noises of the balloon and maybe some wind too, but the dialogue and score are done. vimeo.com/35026390vimeo.com/35029546

I quite liked the prison escape edit. It's going to be quite impressive when you replace the background in those Lester shots. The sound effect for the "little black box" is from the tracking device in the Aston Martin in Goldfinger and I thought it sounded a heck of a lot better that what Thau had. Really?, I didn't know that, good spot. the radar sound from the Donner cut that I've replaced sounded like a tricorder from Star Trek TNG. Tyler, there's no dialogue from the RIC in there, the Hackman voice over is from the Lester cut. Jimbo, I cut to the daytime shot briefly just because I prefer the angle used in the lester version which is different to the one in TDC. I'll have a look at the credits too and see what's up.

Been tinkering with the prison escape. I hate the end with lame bickering between Lex and Teschmacher. It's very tricky combining both versions due to the sound having different score and sound effects all over the dialogue. this clip should give an idea of how I'd like the scene to play out if possible. vimeo.com/34960865

I'm slowly gathering a selection of clear plastics. Straws, tubes containers, whatever I can scrounge to cobble together a decent console replica. I think I'm gonna do the bottom part from foam board. I have a mock-up done in card to use as a template later. These pics will help no-end, as getting a proper look during the film isn't easy!

I want to read Mank's bio! I bet it's a heck of a read. It's a shame there can't be an audio book version read by Mank, I always enjoy listening to him on the commentaries and other special features. I want to get hold of Stamp's book too, I bet that's got some interesting tales in it.

Cheers for the feedback guys. Cam, I won't be using any of the extra footage from Superman Thau Movie. I was watching STM with my girlriend yesterday and she pointed out something I had never noticed before. anyone else notice that when Lara brings out the baby, little Kal puts his hand in his mouth and then wipes it on her face. Also something I noticed a bit ago and mentioned on the other Sperman forum, but never really got a response confirming it. When Lois is in her car and the guy on the radio says that the San Andreas fault has miraculously healed itself, I'm sure the voice is Donner, any thoughts?

1. Not too crazy about all the fades on our journey to the krypton dome. One moment we're approaching Krypton city, next we're going the other way. Plus I've never cared for the mirrored shots of dome. With the red sun approach sped up, along with all the changes in where we are (because of all the fades) it's too much to keep up with. Any chance you can keep this sequence a little tighter? (TBH, this is why I said remove the red/blue "matter" in space, and just go right to the red sun. You save time and have less need for speeding up the footage and fading over and over). 2. Glad to see you switch from DC recap to Theatrical recap when the dome begins to open. For whatever reason, I simply HATE that noise that Thau put there for the moment the PZ "catches" them. 3. Was a little disappointed that you didn't replace the theatrical shots of the Brando "hand double' with some actual shots of him, but no big deal really. 4. You did a very good job of synching the music with certain "beats" in the shots that you used. I always love little touches like that. 5. And of course, I ESPECIALLY love what you did there at the end. Sure it sucks losing the school-bus rescue, but the narrative of the sequence flows perfectly. The look on Supes face, as well as us (the audience) knowing what's gonna happen next, gives it an ominous tone, and I REALLY like how you did that. Very nice work Boosh!! Happy Holidays to you as well!! 1. I agree here. I thought there were a bit many fades when I watched it back after it rendered. It's sorted now. I reversed TDC approach, so now there are only 2 fades, and the motion moves in the same direction throughout, and this meant I could return the final dome shot to the right way around. 2. Yeah, Thau made some daft choices. I cringe when you see Donner on the behind the scenes of TDC praising the audio mix. 3. I think I can get rid of the first shot of the Brando double, maybe the second too. I'm not really arsed, but as it's been mentioned here and on FE.org I'll see if it's doable without a lot of work. 4. Cheers. The constraints of how much time you have to play with to get the main points across were pretty challenging. Major respect to the original editors, that took a lot of talent to do the theatrical credits, especially dealing with real film. 5. Nice one.

Cheers MJD!
Kadman. I might do a directors credit, but if I do I think it'll be a joint credit for Donner and Lester.
