Check out the blurring where the chest meets the costume. It is 'shopped.

Whatever. It was a terrible idea. I enjoy Nic Cage as much as the next guy, but I'm glad he never played Superman. You know how his eyebrows raise whenever he plays a weak guy? I can imagine his CK doing that. Or when he gets all gruff when he's mad. UGH! It would've been awful.

What confuses me is that it looks shopped, purposely! Obviously the guy who create/got the photo knew this or he wouldn't have broadcasted it all over the net. So maybe it's legit!

It looks like the Power Rangers' costumes used in the movie. Yikes!

The body looks to skinny, and the S logo doesn't center itself with the abdominal area.
BUT, yeah, it looks real. I dunno I'm torn. It does look like a shitty late 90's digital camera. Like the ones Aol used to give away.

It could be real. I've heard rumors forever about a picture like this, with Cage having ridiculous hair and a plastic suit.

That Nic Cage Pic is a worse sight than Kryptonite for Superman... But I could imagine 'Nic' replacing Gus Gorman in Superman III and just seeing how that would unfold...LOL
p.s. Could have 'Evil Superman' completely trash Nic Cage in the junkyard scene & 'Good Clark Kent' would be like "HERE! Let me help you with THAT".

A lot of online media outlets including mtv.com, reelzchannel.com, fandango.com, and IMDB.com are reporting on this photo. Maybe we might get a response from Burton or Cage on its authenticity and whether more exists.
From fandango.com; "Back in the late '90s, Warner Bros. was working on another Superman movie that was to be directed by Tim Burton off a script written by none other than Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats). To make things that much stranger, their Man of Steel at the time was a long-haired Nicolas Cage, and the film – titled Superman Lives -- revolved around the 1992 Death of Superman comic storyline in which Superman battled the villainous Doomsday till each of them perished. At the time, the film was so far along that various screen tests had been conducted and it had been given a release date of July 4th 1998. However, a ballooning budget – coupled with the box office failure of Batman & Robin – forced the studio to scrap the entire thing. Till this day folks are still quite transfixed by the Superman project that almost was – so much so that there's all sorts of hoopla online today over an image TimBurton.jp claims is a screen test of Nicolas Cage in the Superman costume."

Oh, here's another reason why I can tell it's a Photoshop job: Look at any photo from Con Air, which was released within a year or two from pre-production on Superman Lives. Of course, there's the odd line around his collarbones. It looks like the costume has a tight neckline with fake skin painted to look like the shirt has a lower, wider neckline. To me, that's the biggest inconsistency. Yeah, he's got the long hair, but his neck is a few inches closer to his trapezius muscles. If the suit is as thick and rubbery as it looks, the portions of the cape that "tuck in" to the neckline of the shirt should be much higher. I'd say they should be closer to his jaw bone by three or four inches. The shoulder width and the length of the collarbones appear accurate, though. Also, his midsection is thicker in the Con Air shot. No way he'd squeeze into a costume that looks like it would be difficult to turn in, much like any of the 89-97 Batsuits. Also, in the Con Air photo, he had less fat directly under his chin/jaw than in the alleged screen test photo. This is evident despite the stubble in the Con Air shot. Observe ... Judging by the light source and shadow placement on the costume compared to his face, it's a damn respectable attempt at a Photoshop job. Finally, I have no doubt that the costume is likely an accurate representation of an early costume. But I believe that the bottom half is an action-figure prototype with Cage's head stuck on top. If this photo is real, then I'd fire the costume designer. That is poor quality, even for a screen test. The quality of the SR costume tests and many fan-made costumes I've seen put this to shame. The prosecution rests, your honor.

Sidenote: In preproduction, intended for Batman Forever, they were designing stuff with keaton in mind. Here, a rare pic of a suit sculpt with keaton head. I thought this was interesting. Looks similar to Kilmer's suit in BF.

Whoa, killer Batman design. I forget how much I prefer the yellow bat insignia. I think it stems from my love of this action figure when I was a kid: ...and of course those classic Neal Adams Batman comics, from around the same time.
