Surely there will be a 'THEME' and not just a 'SCORE'.
I wouldn't say The Dark Knight really has a signature theme tune, but more of a general background score that compliments the film well but doesn't generate the kind of uplifting, inspirational emotion that we want to feel from a Superman movie.
I do expect a new signature theme tune for MAN OF STEEL and will listen to it if released early, but definitely not the entire soundtrack, as it certainly won't be heard within its intended context.

If it's a quiet and invisible score that recedes into the background (much like the new Spiderman soundtrack).... I know I'll be disappointed.
At least it's not Alan Silvestri doing the soundtrack. Anyone here hum the "Avengers" title music lately? I'll be darned if I can even recall what it was! ;p

Well like it or not, they don't really do leitmotif themes anymore. Chances are it WILL be a Batman Begins type score. So why don't you just expect that and be pleasantly surprised if we do get a "theme," instead of looking at it the other way and being disappointed.

You know.... that's not a bad idea.
I was actually very ok with the Batman Begins score--- but not so much the 'Batman Forever and 'Batman and Robin' ones..... Out of all the different composers that we could have gotten, though, I have MUCH higher hopes with Zimmer at the helm above many of the rest of the top composers out right now. I think I just have a tendency to 'hope for the best, but expect the worst'.

Putting John Williams music to the MoS trailer footage doesn't really work.
But how about this attempt to put Christopher Reeve footage to the MoS trailer music.
What do you think?

Too many cuts in that. I vainly prefer my own version . Even if the quality isn't too great. Apart from the early parts, I tried to find a shot from I or II that matched the respective shot in the trailer.

ATP.... that was GREAT. I got chills. It's too bad there isn't a software that you can 'push and click' to try out different soundtracks to a movie and keep all the dialogue and sound fx intact.... would be interesting to see STM/SII with alternate composers...
MELV--- big love for the last half, with the intro to the villains and all. Didn't feel the connection with it as strong with the first half, but..... I know it's all preference, in the end, though.

There's a part in that Man of Steel trailer music, just as he's doing the space flyby, right before the "From Zack Snyder" title card, that I could swear I hear the classic Williams theme. I know it's not really there, but there's just something about the way the notes hit, it sounds like the faintest hint of trumpets come in playing "Dun, dun, dun, DUN DUN!"

The American Library Association has released a 22" x 34" poster in their "Read" series highlighting Henry Cavill and his dedication to reading as many Superman comics as he could for his role in the upcoming "Man of Steel" movie. Born in the United Kingdom, actor Henry Cavill has already made quite an impact in both film and television. Henry made his feature film debut in The Count of Monte Cristo and went on to star in Tristan & Isolde, Woody Allen's Whatever Works and, most recently, as Theseus in Immortals. On the small screen, Henry appeared on the Showtime series "The Tudors" for four seasons. This summer, audiences will see Henry star in Man of Steel when it flies into theaters on June 14. In preparation for this epic role, Henry delved deep into original source material, reading hundreds of Superman comics

It's been said that that specific shirt is being release March 25th in Hot Topic stores and Hot Topic's online site. Just letting y'all know.
I'm getting one made with the logo minus the detailing that I made in my Adobe Illustrator, I just need to find the right shade blue of a shirt that I want. I'll post a picture once I get it done up.

J.J. Abrams turned his script in for Superman: Flyby in 2002. At that time, the biggest draw to his name was the television drama, Felicity. Fast forward to 2013 and Abrams has a proven track record and shown that he has a flair for injecting new life into older film franchises with Mission Impossible, Star Trek and is now setting his sights on Star Wars. 'Flyby', like Man of Steel, was going to feature a Krypton at war and a Kryptonian villain who plagues Clark Kent on Earth. Below, Abrams talks a bit about what his Superman film would have explored and briefly shares his thoughts on Man of Steel.
Superman: Flyby costumer J.J. Abrams"The thing that I tried to emphasize in the story was that if the Kents found this boy, Kal-El, who had the power that he did, he would have most likely killed them both in short order. And the idea that these parents would see – if they were lucky to survive long enough – that they had to immediately begin teaching this kid to limit himself and to not be so fast, not be so strong, not be so powerful.
The result of that, psychologically, would be fear of oneself, self-doubt and being ashamed of what you were capable of. Extrapolating that to adulthood became a fascinating psychological profile of someone who was not pretending to be Clark Kent, but who was Clark Kent. Who had become that kind of a character who is not able or willing to accept who he was and what his destiny was.
The idea in the movie was that he became Superman because he realized he had to finally own his strength and what he’d always been. I don’t know if that’s what Zack and Chris [Nolan] are doing, but it looks like that’s part of the idea and I could not be more thrilled to see that movie. That to me was always the way to go.”
It's a little mind-boggling to think that somewhere at Warner Bros. there's a vault with a Superman script from J.J. Abrams and a Wonder Woman script from Joss Whedon. I guess if you're a young, up and coming director who gets commissioned by WB to writer a script for a superhero movie that ultimately doesn't get made....you should consider yourself on the right career path Read more at www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=76207#UYGjkcAfYMqXxTVs.99
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- selected comment from another blog/board: Flyby was utter sh*t: - Prince Kal-el. - Kryptonian undercover FBI agent Lex Luthor. - A prophecy that made no [frick]ing sense (classic Abrams). - Krypton that was never destroyed. - Martial Arts/Kung fu fighting slo-mo bullet time Kryptonian battles (this was after The Matrix came out). - A neurotic, spineless Clark Kent.
AND THE GREATEST PART OF ALL (Sarcasm... of course!!!)
- Jor-el (who is alive and well on faraway planet Krypton) commits suicide to revive superman, after supes drowns in a Kryptonite laced pool. His ghost tells Clark to live, blah blah blah "the prophecy" and Clark just ups and wills himself back to life.
;D

Said it before, and I'll say it again. 1) Flyby reads really well, and was one more solid re-write away from being excellent. 2) I expect much of Flyby to be in MoS 3) Please stop giving hits to ComicBookMovie

ive seen other concept art from "flyby" and liked SOME of the costume ideas, some were shit. not sure if ive seen that one up there before- but it looks like a prototype for MOS.
and yeah- in concept i think the flyby plotting may be infused in MOS

Flyby was utter sh*t: - Prince Kal-el.
I wouldn't be surprised if they kept that part in. Could it be why they went the medieval route? It's hard to deny Jor-El's Arthurian look:

Jor-El has always been depicted as a member of the high coucil. So, Kal-El as a prince does kinda make sense. The council was their form of royalty/leadership. Luthor as a Kryptonian was a big faux pas for me. No way. Luthor's hatred of Superman has always been in part because he was alien. You can't fuck with that dynamic. Now, burned/rogue government agent? Fine, just don't fuck with a major sticking point in why Luthor sees Kal as an antagonist.
