I absolutely like it.
Bane-y? Wha...?
If you mean ruthlessly self confident and disturbingly cavalier for the circumstance...then ok- I see the analogy.
Is zod supposed to be foaming at the mouth in his first official broadcast?

You guys are starting to lose a little faith because of a voice in a 30 second viral clip that may not even be in the movie? ;D Oh man you guys crack me up. And it doesn't even sound like Bane or the Joker.

Issuing threats is exclusive to The Joker and Bane, never done on film before the Nolan Batman trilogy ;D
The most bizarre thing is that IS Shannon's voice. He's not putting on any voice. I can't say if its good or bad because I need to hear it and see him in context of the film.
I was interested to see whether they would go more calm and sadistic with Zod or over the top shouting, in your face type of thing.

Seriously- look at that picture of zod snarling at superman- you think he's going to be calm cool and collected the whole time?
Was there this much anxiety( I really don't recall) over the "I believe in harvey dent" ads?

It's interesting to see what everyone is thinking...
I'm loving it... So far IMO I've only seen things that were glimpses into something I HOPE will blow me away... Something tells me this next trailer is going to say "Hey fuckers, Superman is back!:.

A lot of us (myself) thought the trailer was coming early and this is a huge left turn kind of ad for a superman ad. Played the clip for my sons and they thought it was scary/cool.

And I just noticed that we have crossed the 2 month mark. We will have a new Superman movie in less than 2 months

And that's the difference because I didn't anticipate anything. I figured the trailer would come out tomorrow. I don't get caught up in the hype because it really does take away your enjoyment of the product in some way. If I'm going to feel lukewarm about the movie, it will be as I'm watching it.

But how does General Zod from Krypton sound like? I've never met him before.

I was gonna ask the same thing.
Ledger's Joker sounded like Tom Waits from Pomona. We need to wait to see and hear Shannon's Zod in the film or at the very least in a good trailer before starting to pass judgement on his casting.

Not "General Zod" from Krypton. Hopefully it will be better in the context of the movie. what i have seen, and i havent seen all of his work, is that michael shannon will establish a "baseline" as to a character's "demeanor" or comportment. then, depending on the story he can play against that baseline for effect. (some of his films are being held for release to glom on to "man of steel") in "BUG" (a pretty good thriller) he starts out moody and a little disturbed and escalates into paranoia into all out psychotic in a pretty straight line. in "take shelter" he actually plays a very laid back, sweet hearted guy- who happens to have a subdued mental illness ( or does he? {youd have to see the movie}) and when he does finally have a melt down its very disturbing and jarring. everything he says about zod indicates (to me at least) that zod isnt categorically "evil"- but very determined and ruthless. after the destruction of krypton and whatever purpose he has in mind for kal-el he gets more and more fierce- untill he gets to this demeanor: I liked it. Zod sounds cold, calculating, and confident. i agree. 2 months....

zod did his best to produce a scary alien broadcast with after effects and all kinds of static shit and you guys say this.. seriously, i wasnt expecting nothing either, totally disconnected, then it was a positive surprise. zod is cold, in control, it is scary, brings a known element of the S2 made new, i like it. edit. and what i get from this viral move is this: forget that pretty SR jornals, forget the origin stuff (it will happen anyway), but lets go to the business here, to the action. perfect. that is how you create the buzz imo.

It's only a little bit about the actual voice... It's more what he says. He's a superpowered being from another planet, demand Kal-El with some awesome destructive display of power... Not hiding behind a static tv signal like some wannabe hacker in his mother's basement. It's just more in line with an un-superpowered Batman villain is my point. I'm assuming this is a major plot point of the movie, which is why Superman willingly turns himself in. It doesn't mean I'm not going to like Zod in the movie. Its just a strange first impression. The concept itself for the viral marketing is awesome as a whole, I just felt Zod should be terrifying, and the whole "you have 24 hours... OR ELSE" is kind of cartoony. But yes, it's 30 seconds out of context, and it may all end up totally making sense! It's just an awkward first impression, doesn't mean Im not interested in going on the rest of the date

The muffled voice is one reason that Zod is Bane.
There is also the cape and the gimp mask.

I took the static as not being part of what the actual characters in the film will see. That's keeping part of the mystery for us (the 4th wall viewers). It wouldn't surprise me if this audio isn't even actually present in the movie as it's presented in this viral marketing.

Hm.... Good point. In watching the "Prometheus" blu-ray bonus disc, it's amazing just how much extra 'fake' footage was shot to promote the movie...
Similarly, Watchmen had a fake documentary that was outside of the actual film. (One wonders how Snyder found the time to have that scheduled with the actors as well)
OZ feels like it got a LOT more exposure prior to the movie coming out, but it'll be interesting to see when/if the marketing 'explodes' at a certain point and you see MOS promotion everywhere or if the marketing dept. is purposely trying to make it low key up until opening day?
Guess we'll find out soon....

Very possible....
I just hope that - even if Shannon isn't going to try to emulate Terence Stamp, that however they interpret Zod--- that Shannon/Goyer's Zod becomes a memorable villain that'd be considered in the 'top ten' of movie villains, and not one of the more forgettable ones.
Aside: I haven't seen Shannon in any films yet, but is it just me, or does Shannon look like a great choice for Non in that promo picture?
(Maybe they're combining the appeal of Zod and Non into one character in spirit? He certainly doesn't look like a lightweight there.)
