I liked Cap's score, and also Spider-man, the Raimi stuff. Some of it, anyhow. But yeah, other than the Nolan Batflicks and Avengers, nothin' really has stood out.

for what it's worth, the trailer music alone gives me very high hopes for the score.
But no way will I listen to it without the film behind it, you can't even come close to judging it unless you see the different scenes it's supposed to compliment.

I wonder if the trailer music is a complete track in its ow right, or if it's a composite of bits of several tracks.

Now I haven't read through everything in this thread so perhaps I've missed something but is it confirmed anywhere that the music in trailer 3 is part of Zimmer's score?

It's been confirmed, and according to this article it's specifically the third track. From EW.com insidemovies.ew.com/2013/04/30/man-of-steel-soundtrack-hans-zimmer/"Fans got an early listen to the score in the third preview for the movie, a rather nostalgic, adventure-ready trailer that brought to mind so many beloved moments in Superman’s story more so than the previous previews that highlighted the more gritty, Dark Knight-esque feel that Man of Steel seems to be introducing to the franchise. Helping evoke that tone was steadily building, triumphant music by Zimmer — that trailer music is the third track on the album. But judging from the brief clips now available of each track, the full score has both grand, epic and solemn, meditative tracks that should help create the action-packed yet also character-driven and contemplative movie Man of Steel is aiming to be."

Here's a direct quote from Zimmer confirming that the trailer music is from the score. From Comicbookmovie.com www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/KingLeonidas/news/?a=77833"The music is actually from the score. A little bit recut - the tune is actually a bit longer in it's development. What you think of as synth sounds are 8 pedal steel guitars. Best organic pad sound yet Smile The perc is the session I did at WB and Fox with 15 drummers: JR Robinson Jason Bonham Josh Freese Pharrell Williams Danny Carey Satnam Ramgotra Toss Panos Jim Keltner Curt Bisquera Trevor Lawrence Jr Matt Chamberlain Ryeland Allison Sheila E Bernie Dresel Vinnie Colaiuta with the amazing JunkieXL conducting (There is something to be said to get a drummer who is a star of EDM and knows how to get a crowd of twohundred thousand people dancing at his shows to liontame and energise this lot!) But of course the real plus is the lack of sound effects...which gets us back to that other thread about dubbing music loudly Smile I'm glad you liked it! -Hz- "

Anyone want to be this is the precise, melancholy moment in the movie where Kal-El's ship takes off and we are left with a silent sequence where we see close-ups of Jor-El and Lara watching the craft while everything falls apart around them and everyone dies and only Zimmer's soundtrack in the speakers?

I know I shall be rapped in the mouth for this, but are the tracks in film order? When I buy film scores, I like them to be in the order that they were in the film.

You know....I'm fully aware of the different sounds you can do with guitars and I'm pretty amazed of what he's getting out of them. You think you're hearing an assemble of strings and such, but no...those are actually guitars. I experimented with guitar sounds a few years back and was able to come up with stuff that synths can't do without modifications in the computer (I'm sure our guitarists know this: Val, nolegs, Kris...). I was able to produce them live. I'm pretty sure when people read a couple of weeks back that he was using a line up of drummers and 8 guitarists, people were up in arms...thinking we're going to get a rock-based soundtrack.
But you totally underestimated Hans Zimmer. I think this score is going to be very original and organic with the movie. You're not going to get your melodies and leitmotif melodies (leitmotifs don't have to be melodies, by the way), but you're going to get something that's going to pack a punch and make you remember it.

Really enjoying the samples, it definitely leaves me wanting to hear more.
I keep thinking about the first time we'll see him as Superman and the first time he takes flight. I can't wait. We've waited a long time for this.

Holy crap! The minute he said "pedal steel guitars" I knew what he meant. I was hearing that stuff as "synth strings" too, but now it's OBVIOUSLY pedal steel.
The thing about pedal steel guitars is that they almost never sound like regular guitars. They aren't strummed in any traditional sense, they're played almost completely with metal slides, and they have none of the "percussive" element of regular guitars. You hear them a lot on country music and Hawaiian stuff. Most famously, if you're a Pink Floyd fan, the guitar solos on "One of These Days" and "High Hopes" are played on pedal steel (and Gilmour does lots of other atmospheric stuff with them that is generally unrecognizable as a guitar on other tracks)
But the idea of 8 or 9 of them working in tandem like an orchestra? That's brilliant! And it makes perfect sense now that I hear it. This soundtrack is gonna be so good...

It's quite interesting that this man is still experimental with his scores. This score is going to sound unique because of it.

Right? One thing I'll say about the man, he has a HUGE breadth of talent. He can do simple little dramas or a comedy or huge action epics and it all sounds great. And he's been at it for a while, too!
