I had this on pre-order...but recently cancelled it.
I already have the STM, SR and S2DC on Bluray. Until I read reviews for this I'm not buying it.

Same here. Way I see it, the aforementioned are already on blu-ray, so I guess this will be the first of double dipping for blu-ray. By that I mean, when dvds are re-released with nothing new. Now if I'm wrong about this, then that would be great. For me it comes down to the theatrical of 2 being fixed up. If it's simply the HD version of 2 then it's actually gonna look worse than standard definition because I have the HD version of 2 and all it does is show in greater detail just how bad the effects and color are.
Same goes for 3 and 4. I REALLY hope Warners is doing this right and fixing up visible wires and such, but I'm not holding my breath. Their track record speaks for itself.

I don't pre-order anything anymore. After I got shafted with my pre-order on the BTTF blu-ray trilogy, I think I will just wait for the prices to dip before I go in spending.
Regardless of PQ, I will probably get it (cheap) purely for the extras not featured before. The DTS-HD audio is a must have for starters, the 1978 HD theatrical audio and cut is also, and lastly the SR return to krypton sequence. I am also very keen to see SII lester cut in HD, but I kinda know what to expect having seen it in HD via TV broadcast, and secondly will the word 'remastered' (which they use to describe for all movies in this blu-ray set) mean much improved or them simply ported over to HD? STM Extended version will have a new master, that has been confirmed, but I'm a bit suspicious about what they mean by new remasters for 2, 3 and 4.
Superman III and IV should be a blast in HD. I really hope for III they fix the contrast problem with the wires showing. SIV, well... that is always a laugh.

If they are all new transfers, they should be good.

Empire magazine has reviewed the set but no comments on the audio and video quality. The review felt very light kind of like they didnt watch it and it just felt like an advert.

I'm sure someone on avsforum will leak photos soon. thedigitalbits and DVDBeaver tend to get prerelease screeners too.
DVDBeaver already has a review up for Once Upon a Time in the West (out in 8 days), so expect in-depth reviews next week.

I pre-ordered it on Borders with the 50% off coupon.
I dunno. I felt like hesitating for some reason. I guess I could return it if the reviews are horrid.
I still have the 2006 editions on DVD, which I feel like I've barely used.

I'm so goddamn excited to see STM and S2 theatrical. I have a feeling STM is going to look incredible.

i haven't been following the info about this set...are the transfers for each film being remastered? All are getting a remaster except for S2DC and SR. Those will use the same masters from the 2006 Blu-rays. Lossless audio for everything (including the 1978 audio mix for STM, though it's still stereo)

Thanks for heads up, Kamdan! Mine totalled about $70, but much better than Amazon's $90. Hopefully Borders doesn't go bankrupt before it arrives....

I trust it's a good upgrade from the DVDs?

Hopefully a good thing. You never know with these studios. To some,"remaster" really means "old master, but filter the heck out of it" (Star Trek 1-10, Predator, for example). But due to the ages of all the movies and their masters, everything should be done from scratch and looking good.
Any Blu-ray is an upgrade from the DVD.....technically.

One thing I find deplorable and it isn't necessarily against this box set. The Smallville series is supposedly never going to get the full release on blu-ray of all 10 seasons even though I believe more than half of them were done for either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray already. The reason? TPTB say the first seasons FX aren't good enough for a good HD master.....yeah...cause the FX in STM were ready for HD from the start right.....ass hats in charge guys

I think the FX in the first 3 Reeve movies are better than what Smallville offered. Sorry mate.

yeah...cause the FX in STM were ready for HD from the start right.....ass hats in charge guys Mavcon While HD may show some imperfections in the effects, the effects are ready for HD because they were shot on film. Smallville was shot for tv, and they didn't think far enough ahead (3 years!) to render the effects in HD because broadcast Tv was broadcast in 480i until around 2004/2005, and the full transition didn't take place until 2008. It probably had a lot to do with the equipment they were using as well.

WB also has issues releasing things in widescreen. dunno why. I picked up the pilot to Smallville as an import from Canada, in widescreen. Also, in listening to commentary, all of "Lois and Clark" was shot in widescreen, but released as pan & scan. Blah.
There ought to be a law....

By the way, according to the blu-ray.com forum, you can order the blu-ray collection from amazon.co.uk and get it shipped much cheaper than the regular price.

I was going to get it from Amazon UK, but I hate the rating that they put on the front of the cases.

Screw it. I'm still buying it. I can't justify trying to lay down $100 for a figure/statue of Superman (or throw down $100 trying to collect the GB line), because they are basically toys.
But I can justify $80 of discs I'll watch over and over again. Even if I did spring for that big box set five years ago.
As for Smallville, I'm slapping myself because I have all the individual seasons, but I really want that big box set that's coming out, even if it's only DVD and not Blu-ray. But that's OK. I need to replace the first three seasons of Supernatural on Blu-ray anyway.

I'm hearing some second-hand information, but it sounds like the Return to Krypton scene is the full original opening. Details should be coming out in a couple days.

I just wish that they could have also dug deeper into the archives and put out some more deleted material from the other films. There's no excuse for disc space, as they've got plenty more than a DVD.
