So according to this, Brandon will be attending the event, The actor who portrayed the Man of Steel in Superman Returns, Brandon Routh, will be flying in to Metropolis to meet fans during the 33rd annual Superman Celebration June 9-12.
Superman co-chairman Karla Ogle explains that Routh had expressed interest in being a part of the Metropolis Celebration, but was unsure if his current filming schedule would allow him to make the trip. “Once we learned he could indeed travel in early June, we began finalizing the details to add him to our line-up,” Ogle said. “We are so excited that he will be here in Metropolis!”
Prior to Routh's casting as Superman and Clark Kent in the 2006 film, Superman Returns, Warner Bros. had spent over a decade developing a plan to relaunch the franchise with possible stars including actors Nicholas Cage, Brendan Fraser, Ashton Kutcher, Keanu Reeves, and Will Smith. When director Bryan Singer came aboard the project, however, he insisted an unknown actor be cast in the part, in the tradition of the casting of the best-known film Superman, Christopher Reeve.
Singer was impressed by Routh’s resemblance to the comic book icon and found the actor's humble mid-western roots perfect for the role. At the age of 24, Routh reminded the director of Christopher Reeve and was recognized for his "combination of vulnerability and confidence". Routh has said that he hoped to "remind people of Christopher while at the same time making them feel like they're seeing a totally new Superman".
Brandon will be appearing at the celebrity autograph sessions on Saturday, June 11th and will sign either the Planet special Edition, Superman Celebration Program Book, or Celebration Poster at no charge with a limit of 2 autographs per fan. Fans may bring in collectible items or clothing of their own to be signed by Brandon for $30 per item. 8x10 photos will also be available for purchase at the autograph sessions. MAV would be pleased. Those usually feature Smallville actors in big bold letters, with the movie and Reeves-era actors marginalized. Are you going?

I knew someone would say something like that.... looks like others are charging about the same.
I'm pretty sure he's earned enough money so far to live off well the rest of his life.

IF he and the wifey live reasonably. I bet a million dollar salary for SR would end up to be probably 400K after taxes and agent fees. And I doubt any of his other work paid that much.
Routh is a good actor with good screen presence. He's just not getting the roles. Aside from SR, his only big movie work has been supporting roles in underperforming niche movies (Zack and Miri, Scott Pilgrim). He needs a second big break.
I guess he didn't make a big impression on movie audiences like Hugh Jackman did. Well before the second X-Men movie, Jackman was already on his way to movie stardom.

A sequel to SR would have helped his career a great deal, but we know the rest of the story. I think he should have grabbed a good role in a mainstream movie around the time SR came out, but he didn't. Not sure why. He instead went to do indie movies with no name actors, and nothing really happened with that. He lost a golden opportunity.
He was also in a lot of episodes on Chuck last year. And he was paid almost half a mill for a cameo he did in a Bollywood movie a few years ago. His wife also works as an actress.
And please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't he also get paid for toys sold with his likeness? I've heard something about that.

Yup, you get royalties when your image is used.
Disney did not make Giselle from Enchanted one of the "official" Disney princesses (toys, books, cartoons) because they didn't want to pay Amy Adams for her likeness for years to come. ;D

Routh needs to get into producing. That's where the money's at. His acting career, while still alive, is on its last leg.

I paid $30 to have Peter Mayhew autograph a Chewbacca toy. Well, not the toy but the plastic casing.

I hope I'm wrong to, but let's face the facts; Hollywood is for the young. Well, it is now. The older you get, the less roles you're offered. Routh is 31 years old now, that's 50 in Hollywood years.

hahaha! sorry but that made me laugh, legsy. ;D That sounds too dramatic, imo. I think he's still plenty young. Now if he was an older woman, I'd agree with you more. Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford are good examples of older men doing well.
Plus I think there are lots of good/interesting roles for an older more mature actor out there. Many times the supporting actors are more interesting than the supposed leading young men.
I think it also depends on how much he wants his career to continue.

Official Brandon Routh Thread number 2 I see.... I REALLY want to go for Superman's 75th. I'm sure that's going to be an AWESOME event there. Even still I wouldn't be heartbroken if I could go at least once.

Are you guys jealous? sorry I can't talk about you but well I don't know what's going on with your lives. ;D Please you can talk about the celebration as a whole here, that's why I named the thread "33rd annual Superman Celebration." And a former Superman will be present there. I thought that'd be something relevant and worthy of its own thread... And some others insist on talking about that actor, so yeah, it's not just me.

Considering how bitter I am that Routh isn't being cast again for the new Superman movie, I can only imagine how Routh must feel inside---- so, I think it's amazing that he's willing to show up for something that could be potentially really painful, especially as he most likely won't be cast again (Unless WB changes its mind) as Supes.
In reading the post carefully, he's willing to sign certain of the convention items for free--- very fair, and $30 is NOTHING for an autograph..... very fair, especially given the circumstances surrounding the whole thing.
A friend once mentioned how he'd heard how Patrick Stewart got duped by a couple of 'clever' fans who dressed their friend up in a wheelchair to get to the front of a line for Stewart, to get items signed, then went to the bar across the street to laugh about how they conned the star--- Apparently, Stewart got wind of it, and was so (rightfully so imo) angry at that, that he left the convention in a huff & that combined with seeing dealers charge money for his signature later on for their own profit, decided shortly after to charge & at least have control where the signature money could go, presumably for his favorite charity & not to buy extra private jets or something like it.
At least that's how the story goes. True or not, knowing how some fans behave at conventions, I tend to think enough of it is true.
At least, I'd like to think that's why Routh is charging money for the signature.... something similiar & not that there solely for a huge need of cash. (hopefully not)

Your statements makes ME laugh! ;D ;D ;D Neeson and Ford are established actors and they have a proven record for making movies that make money. It doesn't depend on whether he wants his career to continue, it's up to the various Hollywood studios. If they want to hire him, they will. There are thousands of actors that want to get hired, but Hollywood doesn't want them. I do hope I'm wrong. He has a lot of potential. But his window of opportunity is closing fast. Back to the subject at hand, $30 for an autograph ain't bad. Plus, Mark Pillow is going to be there!

While that may be true...actors don't really go over the hill until their late 40s and 50s. 30 seems to be a very good starting and pivotal point for an actor and history can back me up with that. For actresses on the other hand....they're done by the time they're 30. ;D

I think Brandon just really wants to be there. He's that kind of a guy that appreciates what he's been given, imo.
