The idea of using the 'we've been through this before'- to Lois' "If Perry could only see me now"--- works, but it seems a bit odd that Lois' character seems to give up so easily after Clark says that, if putting it together this way- given her history.

I wasn't planning on using the arrival at the hotel at all. The Donner Cut version barely counts as a scene, it's so brief. The theatrical verison has that twat of a bellboy in most of it, then Lois contradicting what she said in the DP by saying the story is a crap idea, and ends with Clark asking if he's getting a bunk up. My preference is to first see them at Niagara just before Superman rescues the kid.

I think this is the shot that Seb used for his example, but you may be right that it was from the "feed the babies" deleted scene, it's been a while. This shot is more suitable anyway, as Superman is facing in the right direction towards Jimmy and more of his body is in shot. In the feed the babies he is cropped at around the elbow.

I dont think that shot of ''Superman'' is needed at all in the DP scene. We know who that is,Lois does too as the picture is right in front of her.

Here's an outline for the edit. This isn't final by any means, and is probably gonna change before this project reaches completion. The metro battle needs to be sorted out, so the details are brief here.

I've indicated Lester/ Donner based on who's cut of the film the scene will be based on and not who directed it, so no comments telling me that Lester didn't direct any of Hackmans scenes, or the scenes in Don's Diner.

Old red WB logo.
Lester: Krypton approach. Red sun replaced.
Donner: Trial of the villains.
Lester: Credits. Susannah York replaced with Brando. Some scenes changed to add in Brando. Scenes arranged chronologically. Last shot angry Superman flying towards the camera. Last credit: Directed by Richard Lester and Richard Donner.
Donner: Time reversal, XK-101 throw. (Fix XK-101 where needed).
Hybrid: Villains released. No crappy effects, no PZ split into 3. All footage from DC needs new backgrounds.
Donner: DP jump. Re-scored with Niagara jump cue.
Lester: Prison laundry.
Lester: Mission control.
Lester: Moon attack. Possibly remove Ursa kicking astronaut, so she just stares at him as he dies. Remove second bounce of cosmonaut Boris.
Lester: What's a curl?
Lester: Villains set off for Housten, followed by night shot to segue to prison yard.
Hybrid: Longer version of lights out (theatrical) but with no sound weird sound effects for the Lex/ Otis projection.
Donner: Lex escapes. Waving to Otis from the theatrical cut. Bickering between Lex and MT trimmed.
Lester: Lois and Clark check into the Honeymoon Haven, cut at “Have a happy...whatever”. Establishing shot of the falls from rescue scene used.
Hybrid: Lex approaches the fortress (Lester). Stood outside the fortress (Donner). Lex enters the fortress (Lester). Trees (Lester). Jor-El talks about the villans (Donner/ head recoloured). Zod breaks red crystal displayed on crystal viewer (Lester/ new effect). Lex leaves fortress (Lester).
Lester: Superman saves stupid kid. (silly crowd dialogue removed). Orange juice line cut.
Hybrid: Villains land. No Non heat vision. Lester audio.
Hybrid: Pink bear. Blank bullets dialogue over hotel establishing shot. Cut references to jumping in the river.

Hybrid: Perry wonders where Superman is (Donner).Villains arrive at the DP (Donner with Lester cue).
Hybrid: Superman arrives (Lester). Lois “Superman!” reaction shot from DC.
TBD: Metropolis battle with the villains. Redux based with some new elements added in. Campy humour removed.
Hybrid: Villains return to the Daily Planet (Donner). Ambient noise from Lester cut added in.
Lester: Villains fly to the fortress.
Hybrid: Villains enter the fortress and battle with Superman (Lester). Remove plastic \S/ and replace finger beams with heat vision (As in Redux). Improve editing from previous version.
Superman tricks Zod and launches him (Lester score/Donner shot of Non falling).
Donner: Arctic police deleted scene. Added music cue “March of the villains”. Removed “Smallville strongboy” and “Blast off”. Edited as in Redux.
Donner: Lois and Superman talk. Destruction of the fortress removed.
Donner: Balcony farewell.
Donner: Pizza scene. Edited as in Redux.
Donner: Bully deleted scene. Walking into closet removed.
Lester: Clark gets revenge on Rocky.
Lester: Superman flies to the whitehouse.
Lester: Superman flies around the Earth and smile to camera.
New: End Credits. In the style of STM/ Lester end credits.

Some of this may not be possible due to incompatible music cues/ continuity, but that will be discovered and worked around during editing.

I like that you chose the arms crossed shot for the DP reveal. CAM did that to, as well as the the other arms crossed shot from the "feed the babies" deleted scene. After Supes tells Eve that her mother is fine. I like the idea of Clark "fading" into Superman though, and not just him there for the entire shot. I can show you how I did it with CAM's footage in my cut.

Also in my cut, I removed the bellboy, the repeated dialogue, but kept the rest of the scene. I faded in the dialogue in as the waterfall sound faded out, and then cut to them inside their room when Lois opens the blinds (will also upload if anyone is curious to see).

- Lester Prison Laundry is the way to go, but is there any chance you can add in the Donner "Folgelstein's a bed wetter" part? Or is the music too different here? If it's a similar music cue, I'm sure it can be easily faded properly.

- glad to see hybrid for Lex escape.

- Lester version of Lex leaves FOS? I hate to lose the dialogue between him and MT. Not just for more Hackman, but (and I'm REALLY reaching here), at least him telling her "A mouth full of mink" MIGHT be enough to tell me that he's tired of her, and this is why we don't see any more of her in the film.

- I know you say "undecided" of villains destroying a monument, but if you decide to go with the Washington Mt., there's a "crashing" shot of it hitting the ground from the movie "Mars Attacks" that CAM and I have used.

- Lester version of him calling out to his father instead of Donner (with Lester audio dubbed in). I guess sometimes less is more. I can show you how I did it if you're curious, but it sounds to me like this is the "Definitive" version to you. I guess it works since we get different angles, and doesn't look like it was all shot in 20 minutes (as that's what it looks like in the DC).

Boosh, are you gonna tackle any of those ideas that were pointed out in those PDF slides? Specifically, the "son becomes the father" effect, and rotoscoping Jor-el from STM when he puts his hands on the Krypton elders' shoulder, so that we see the one hand of Reeve's shoulder. Also, the ideas of removing ALL miniature flying shots with actual Reeve flying shots (as you did in REDUX for the shot of him flying way at the end of the Metro battle).

Yeah, I do fancy adding the shot of Jor-El's hand from STM, it's a really good idea.

I also want to get rid of all the crap model shots I can. If it's only for a second I can live with it, but for lingering shots or anything close to the camera they've got to go.

Also, does anyone know of any films that start with the red WB logo? I know Enter the Dragon does, but I don't have the bluray to see if it made the transfer to HD or if it got replaced like the Superman II one did.

Here's a couple of updates on the pink bear scene. based on a suggestion from Tyler. Now Lois isn't so quick to back down on her suspicions. This would mean cutting Lois suspecting clark after the boy is rescued at Niagara, as in the Donner Cut.

Here is a clip of the new intro. The old style red WB logo replaces the newer gold shield. The "flaming turmoil" that was present in the theatrical cut has been replaced with the correct red krypton sun from Superman the Movie.

After Superman saves the kid, Lois is waving after him and isn't acknowledged by Superman at all. The scene would end at "well heck and goodbye". Then when we get back to the hotel, Lois is sulking about this encounter and not the jump into the river.

Lol, just add a laugh track and use the shot of Lois looking back and forth, now it seems like people are laughing at her. Thus, she "sure must've looked like an idiot". Problem solved lol. Does require using your imagination, yeah. Seriously though, version 3 is my favorite.

As for the opening, I'd prefer if the fade in has us immediately go to the red sun approach, but I suppose that red/blue matter "spilling" as the first thing we see has been really etched into our minds eh? lol. I do like how it "spills" right in tune with the music. Right with the horn as it holds that note. Just another example of why I didn't like Thau re-using Williams cues, when I felt that *for the most part* Thorne did fine with what he had to work with.

Now, re-using the same cues again in part 3? As well as his original music in 3? Not so much lol. With the exception of the end credits fanfare with the extended opening before the main theme kicks in.
