At first the edit of rough 15 seems a bit confusing. Now I like it. It is close...
The new shots of superman rising are much better. And especially because the evil supes is not so distracting now.

Booshman, if you're reading this, your account is enabled. Thanks a lot Jimbo! Interesting choice. Valerie Perrine looks great- the Brando one is a little funky, the motion looks a bit astray (as well as timing). Cheers CAM, I appreciate the feedback. It was a major pain to get the elements lined up in the first clip, which is why the second clip is a bit ropey. The white text needs to be key-framed to meet up with the echoes. Yesterday I was thinking that the second clip matched the credits better, but now I'm thinking one is the way to go. I was judging the distance between the echoes by Margot's credit. Looking at the other names, they appear to be more closely bunched, as in the Valerie Perrine clip I posted. I've been looking at the credits to think of a way the names could be re-arranged to reflect the cast in the edit. What do people think of replacing Susannah Yorks credit with Terence Stamp. Then replacing stamps credit with "and Marlon Brando as Jor-El". So Brando would be last of the cast to be credited. There's no way this would have happened had he been included in the theatrical release, but it's the only way I can think of doing it without redoing a majority of the credits myself. And the order the cast are named, other than the first few names, seems a bit random as is anyway. Ursa, Non, Jimmy, the sheriff, Jimmy Olsen and the President, all get a mention before Zod.

Welcome,Booshman.... Great work on the edits for the re-powering. Thanks very much dickie, it's been a while. I've not been a registered member since around 2007, when the board changed to a new host, and I went back to lurker status. Cheers to everyone for taking the time to watch the clips and offer their feedback. It's really good to have a group of people who know and care about this material to bounce ideas off.

I'd go with the v01, much smoother, could move a little faster but you can always re-time at a later stage, Nice work guys, looking forward to seeing more of this

I agree with the group. Test credit video 1 is better. As for where to place Brando, I think replacing York with Brando would probably be best. For all the DC press about 15 minutes of Brando material being discovered and re-instated, it honestly felt more like 5 minutes to me. Especially when more than half of that time was, essentially, the exact same dialogue we already know, but was spoken by different actors lol. So yeah, I don't understand why he would have to be credited so soon, if his screen time is rather short. I'd make that same argument for STM, but that movie seems to give all the main characters an equal amount of screen time, after Superman.
Curious, Boosh, are you gonna do one or two credits at a time, STM style? Or are you gonna do theatrical all the way, and have 3 or 4 names pass us with each space portion (in between the recap clips)? Considering you're going theatrical style, which isn't as "grand" as STM credits were, it actually makes sense that they sped things up. Even Thau felt credits went on too long. Though for some reason, I think (maybe him being an editor and all), he's simply not impressed with the scale of the Superman credits. Or how much it means to us fans.

I mentioned this earlier on but i have a new scene to add:
Credits finish... zoom to earth. Cut to: flying through clouds (from STM,ship before it crashes of course)
Cut to: RIC Concord,Superman flys by cock pit, past and swirls towards camera.
Cut to: Reverse the shot from STM when Superman flyes down to the sidewalk to visit Lex.
all gelled together with music...
Cut to: LC: Guy selling fruit,Clark walking, straight over the road,no Lois and gets hit by the taxi.
DC: Full scene Daily Planet Jump.

Boosh and Jimbo have both told me that it IS possible to re-master the deleted scenes to get them *somewhat* up to blu-ray quality, but I really doubt any RIC scenes will be in this cut.

Hey Booshman, nice to see you in the forum. I can totally appreciate all the work you're putting into editing/rotoscoping..... rotoscoping is slightly more fun than going to the dentists' office for a root canal, I know... About the credits: I always felt that- since things were going to (originally) be shot/released closer to one another, that contracts would have stayed intact--- meaning that order of credits would have stayed almost exactly the same (I would think). Brando is barely in it, but both Brando and Hackman (I believe) had hard negotiations to be put up front and center- thus, why their names went first- probably would have been first as well for the sequel*..... so although Reeve should have been first (if only by screen time), he's third after the 's'.... so, I always thought that if the fan cut is to try to be as close as possible to a 'what would have been'--- that the credits go back to the same order (as much as possible) as would have been, had it been released one year later (a la the LOTR and I think the 3 and 4 Musketeers had been). (*Though, of course, ignoring the fact that the Salkinds wouldn't have allowed use of having to pay Brando again. Ok, so, if the fan cut is a 'what if', it's a 'what if Donner had stayed and they HAD to keep Brando' presumably... ) Because SII took longer to reshoot- there was a window of opportunity for the actors to sue to renegotiate for more money..... maybe that also extended to credits- thus, why we had an odd 'and Terence Stamp', whereas I don't recall if there was an 'and' attached to any names in STM. Also- another option is to 'color key' out the black of the STM credits and REALLY re-use the original ones as much as possible- but, of course, there's the split Sarah Douglass/Jeff East credit to have to deal with. Anyhow....would have been WAYYY easier if they just kept Donner for SII in 1980, fer heavens' sake...

Boosh and Jimbo have both told me that it IS possible to re-master the deleted scenes to get them *somewhat* up to blu-ray quality, but I really doubt any RIC scenes will be in this cut. I recall saying you could get them up to DVD quality, as in the same general sharpness and color as the DVDs by tweaking the contrast and color. The next obvious step would be upscaling it to 1080p, but then the difference would be even more staggering. The DC deleted scenes are badly interlaced and washed out. ADigitalMan thankfully deinterlaced the video. I sourced that for the raw material. I then used TMPGEnc to tweak the contrast/color. I included the souffle deleted scene (cuz well, why the heck not?) and it's in great shape. It just needed to be blown up to 16x9 and it was good to go. TMPGEnc did the blow-up. RIC footage would be a bad idea. 4x3 VHS footage has no place on a widescreen DVD.

Mr Booshman, please can you include the following in your cut?
394 EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT - DAY
The cruel face of ZOD fills the screen. His voice booms out with a deep, penetrating quality.
ZOD I am General Zod! Listen to me, people of the Earth!
CAMERA PULLS BACK: ZOD is perched on top of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. He stands erect on the pointed apex of the tall, needle-like edifice, his voice echoing across the landscape as terrified TOURISTS below scream, run away in panic.
ZOD Today I bring a New Order to your planet! One which shall last until the end of time! Each of you...
395 INT./EXT. LINCOLN MEMORIAL - DAY
PEOPLE stand petrified inside and out of the Lincoln Memorial and reflecting pool beyond as ZOD continues.
ZOD'S VOICE ... each man, each woman, each child - all will march proudly together in this New Order!
396 EXT. JEFFERSON MEMORIAL - DAY
CAMERA LOOKS THROUGH the Jefferson Memorial, across the Potomac River.
ZOD'S VOICE Your lands, your homes, your possessions, your very lives...
397 EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT - ANGLE LOOKING DOWN
CAMERA LOOKS DOWN PAST ZOD. Police cars with flashing lights begin to converge in the distance.
ZOD All of this and more you will gladly give to me!
398 EXT. KREMLIN - RUSSIA - DAY
An aerial view of the Kremlin in flames, the fire spreading throughout Moscow.
ZOD'S VOICE There is no longer a need for separate nations in this world, no need for petty squabbles between one group and another...
399 EXT. TOKYO - DAY
TOKYO is in flames. Thousands of JAPANESE flee through the streets.
ZOD'S VOICE All of you will work together, strive, produce, and sacrifice together - and all for a common goal!
400 EXT. PARIS - EIFFEL TOWER - DAY
The Eiffel Tower in Paris is suddenly bathed in a strange LIGHT.
ZOD'S VOICE It is useless for you to resist as it is for me to annihilate you...
401 EXT. PARIS SKY - ANGLE ON NON
NON focuses his X-RAY vision on the Eiffel Tower.
ZOD'S VOICE You will only bring death and destruction upon yourselves...
402 EXT. EIFFEL TOWER
The Eiffel Tower melts under the heat, sags, then collapses like a tin toy.
ZOD'S VOICE ... while I will lose the potential products of your labor...
403 EXT. MT. RUSHMORE - SOUTH DAKOTA - DAY
URSA stands in front of Mount Rushmore, turns on her X-Ray vision: The famous faces of the Presidents are obliterated, then replaced by those of ZOD, URSA, and NON as she burns them in with her eyes.
ZOD'S VOICE There is now one law, one order, one ruler who alone will determine your collective destiny! One force before will all of you shall kneel forever!
404 EXT. WASHINGTON MONUMENT - DAY
ZOD continues to rant on top of the monument.
ZOD In return for this submission you will have my generous protection! In other words - you will be allowed to live.
405 ANGLE ON BASE OF MONUMENT
A police car has pulled has pulled up at the base of the Monument. Flak-jacketed OFFICERS pile out, their CAPTAIN holding a bullhorn.
CAPTAIN (to ZOD - through bullhorn) You are trespassing on Federal Government property - illegally occupying a national monument...
406 BACK TO ZOD
ZOD'S eyes flash with anger as he looks down.
ZOD I will not repeat myself again! There is no nation! Therefore there cannot be a monument to one...!
407 WIDER ANGLE
ZOD jumps off, smashes into the monument lower down: It crumbles into pieces, the cascading shower of stone burying the police cars and OFFICERS below.
408 CLOSE ON ZOD IN MID-AIR
ZOD From this day forward - there is only Zod!

Funny thing is, even though - in re-looking at it - this might be able to be done assembling scrap pieces/rotoscoping/etc.... it just wouldn't be able to be done in the same way that feel complete- or as if Donner had shot it. (Ironically, even some of the edits by Thau don't feel like Donner's footage, based on how it was put together!) That's one thing I'll give Selutron- at least (judging by some of his clips) his assemblies use enough different angles and well-timed music to make the ideas seem complete. I just don't know if there's a way (even with rotoscoping) to make this sequence look 'right', unless there's ANOTHER disaster movie from the 70's out there that might help fill the bill....

No Tyler, you told me that Jimbo had told you that the deleted scenes could be brought up to bluray quality and I asked you how. I think I can get them to to a decent level, but nothing spectacular. I've been tinkering with Magic Bullet Instant HD, and the results don't look too bad. The main problem is the interlacing as Jimbo said, then removing the dirt frame by frame.

I managed to get the deleted footage properly deinterlaced and at the correct frame rate. Here's a few examples comparing scaling in Premiere to the magic bullet instant HD plugin.
