What if superman first appears after TDKR? Exactly. And the sudden appearance of superhumans is what brings Bruce out of retirement.

I agree.
Some of you guys are making this more complicated than it has to be.
Bruce can come out of retirement for virtually any reason.

Why so down on this, Paul? Is it because of it continuing the story of TDKR? I'm not the biggest fan of Nolan's take on Batman - and I'm not coming from a "I prefer Burton" approach... ...truly, my ideal Batman film hasn't been made yet. The only reason I buy into Nolan's movies at all is that he did do his honest take on Batman. It was uncompromising and the story and resolution of his Bruce Wayne (as a man) was something I will give him loads of credit for. In short, gaping plot holes aside, his is a self contained work of art. I also view them as the cinematic equivalent of an Elseworld novel. The idea of bringing Bale back worries me for a few reasons. Nolan has always put art first (while giving good business to WB). This news seems totally motived by business and not art. WB have shareholders looking at Disney saying "WTF!" so they are kneejerking and going down the "safe" route. I want to see more Batman films. Proper BATMAN films. Not "realistic" Elseworld Batman films. Not psuedo-Batman characters (Blake) in roles others should have. By not starting fresh and building on Superman for this cinematic DCU, I don't see how proper BATMAN films will get a chance...at least not for another 10 years.

You're kidding yourself if you think "art" is what motivated Nolan to make the Batflicks, or to produce Man of Steel.

Oh, but it's bound to happen. Geekdom is a sensitive land. Once you rape someone's childhood or fuck up royally, you set off whiney, rebellious hatred.
Anyway, I hope Bale returns. He's been the best Batman. I kinda think of him as the Daniel Craig of superheroes.

Man of Steel should have a post-credits sequence that takes us back into Dark Knight Rises... We see Batman flying the bomb out to sea, but Superman tears open the cockpit and pulls him out. It would finally explain how he could have possibly survived.

How about Bale plays Batman from another Earth? I'd be down for that.

JUSTICE LEAGUE. 2015. That would be the most awesome, iconic scene in comic book movie history! That 1-2 minute scene would be better than anything Marvel Studios have done.
