Are the pants ink-repellant? Crucial detail.

If this is Batman we should be asking if the pants are shark repellant.

So I guess we're going to get the new Batman in the new film. Not sure if it'll work. Will people accept a new Bats? Then again, better than another tired origin story
WB dropped the ball, should have done it 2010. Could have got away paying Routh peanuts and also made the most of TDK success. Feels like its too late now. Marvel did a brilliant job introducing all the characters; I fear DC just will drop the ball

Much as I love the dark knight trilogy it felt like WB was just wasting time by letting Nolan do his own thing while trying to do JL too. They had to wait years while they were setting up other characters and couldn't even use their most financially successful one. If SR and GL had been huge hits then what? They should have worked something out with Nolan as soon as he got the job. WB once again didn't think things through. Then they tried a JL movie unrelated to Nolan's batman and that would have been a disaster. Nolan wanted his Batman to have no part of it. Now they have to start from scratch. They quite simply don't have a clue how to make this film work right now.
I think people can accept a new Batman. If a cashgrab Spiderman movie to keep the rights can make money WB can make another Batman movie. Like you said no origin story though. Best best would be to handle it like Batman 89 with brief flashbacks. Have Batman already be established for a short time.

I say ignore TDKR's events, just pay Bale to come back as Batman and use him for JL/and more Batman movies.
The 'quasi-sequel' take by Singer had mixed results.... but considering the alternatives, I say stick with Bale & just buy him an island or two to come back....

Maybe they can give him Marlon Brando's island? and his work vs pay rate.

Actually, if they just gave me one of the Nolan Batmobiles (not the Burton ones, looks like those have poor miles per gallon), I'd work for free. (Agreed, I probably wouldn't work for Bruce Wayne, but for Batman, all you need is laryngitis and a good mask, right?)

I like the idea of Nolan's trilogy standing alone. I like the idea that Bruce's journey does have an end, even if the "legend" of the Batman lives on. How many other franchises have even attempted that and risen above the greed of keeping it open-ended for more money?
Just re-boot the Bat. Let's get a new take. Maybe we'll even get something besides black rubber.

Why did they stop at Spiderman 3? Did Tobey and Raimi just have enough? Did the film make loads of money? Surely they didn't stop just because a lot of people thought it was crap.

It made a ton of money and they were going to do Spider-Man 4. But there were issues between Sony and Raimi on the direction the film was taking. During that time Sony had a reboot script in the works along with Spider-Man 4 just in case. In the end the two sides couldn't agree and Raimi and his team didn't come back. Sony also felt they could save some money with a new director and new cast of newer/younger actors that wouldn't ask for as much as Maguire, Dunst, etc. Taking Peter back to high school could give them a firmer grasp on the youth audience too. It was Sony and Avi Arad that ruined Spider-Man 3 more than anyone. They demanded Venom but I remember Raimi originally saying he wasn't a fan. Far too much was crammed into that movie.

Maybe we'll even get something besides black rubber. Ditto. Comics have to go on because of the serialized nature. That's why we never see a true ending most times. If the films are like else world stories then I don't see the problem with a definitive end. Nolan had a story he wanted to tell. Film shouldnt always be hampered by a different mediums rule of going on infinitely. He offered something fresh from other takes on Batman by wrapping up the story of his Bruce Wayne. If Bixby could kill David Banner I don't see why people get butthurt for Nolan ending his Batmans story on a a happy note. The mantle was passed and in that universe Gotham will still have a Batman. There was no way Wayne could go on forever in that world. If he did the outcome was obvious. new live action continuity has always been created. Let someone else do it again with a new Batman that's not constrained by Nolans rules. I actually WANT to see Joker and Two Face and Ras Al Ghul show up on screen again. That wasn't going to happen in Nolan's world. I want a universe where Lazarus Pits and Mr Freeze and Clayface can exist. The Dark Knight Rises felt like as much of a spiritual ending as Superman Returns did. Both films wrote the characters into corners it would have been tough to get out of and continue from. For Bales Batman to come back they'd have to untie some of that nice bow they left on Rises. It would be a radically different Batman in so many ways and realistically one that wouldn't really fit in a JLA if they honor Nolans rules.

Cheers for the info 'tallo. I've had the new Spidey flick stored on a hard drive somewhere but no real interest to see it yet. Feels pointless.

I remember you saying you might give it a watch. I'd love to hear your reaction. A Marvel produced reboot would have been more than worth it but seeing Sony go to the well yet again wasn't enough to get me excited. Especially since they seemed to be trying to Nolanize what Raimi already did. *zzzzzzzzzzzz*. That "witness the untold story" bullshit in the trailers was basically a lie.

Even though the Raimi movies aren't my style, I can appreciate that they were closer in tone to the comic because Spider-Man is a fun character. Sure, he had his share of problems, but it was still fun to see his adventures. I may roll my eyes at bits, but I'm entertained. The new movie took the fun out of the character. If I wanted my fix of nihilistic, dour hero drama, I've got three better Bat flicks.

I don't think any of the films really got Spidey just right. I think in a lot of ways Raimi was closer but I still think there is room for improvement. Raimis first movie was a real turning point in the superhero subgenre though. Webbs felt like just another superhero movie. These days they are so common a film has to bring something special to the table to make its mark.
